Hi ,looking for a mat to put underneath the mattress. Would this fit inside the swag?
G'day Chris,
Its a fair bit narrower than the swag and original swag mat - as its 68cm wide - but other than that you should have any issues using it in your swag. Its quite likely you wont be able to fit the swag into the swag bag though, if you leave both mattresses in for pack up.
Hope that helps.
Hi, we purchased 2 of these for the kids. So far great in summer! We would like to use them in autumn and winter in the alpine region of Victoria. Given the absence of an R-value, would a layer of foam (floor mat/yoga mat thickness) and a wool blanket on the floor give enough separation from the ground to retain heat? We have -10 sleeping bags and use a cotton sheet to sleep on top of the mat at the moment.
G'day Sarah,
This mat isn't absent of insulative properties, it's just not something Coleman have had officially tested, so an R-Value figure cannot be provided.
Given that its a foam filled self-inflating mattress, it's reasonable to assume it would have a similar R-Value to other mattresses of same materials and construction. Whilst it is a rough estimate I would say an R-Value of around 5-6 would be a good ball park, meaning your sleeping bags are likely to perform at the rated -10 comfort.
If you did want to add in additional insulation, a yoga mat or woolen blanket would be the go to choice.
Hi, Snowfolk, How does this mat compare to the more expensite Exped and Zempire, comfort-wise? And is it soft, if not entirely inflated, or just kind of flat and saggy? Soft but supportive is important, to me.
G'day Pamela,
We've had a bit of a chance to play with these new mats, and comfort wise they feel pretty similar to the Exped and Zempire equivalents. All of these mats have a similar system, with the valves allowing for fine-tuning to your ultimate level of firmness. They will still be supportive if you let some of the air out and feels soft enough to provide comfort.
If not is bonded better?
G'day Steve,
I can confirm these mats are bonded. Bonded keeps the mat flat rather than letting air inflate the membrane and foam which then creates a balloon effect.
I would like to join two of these mats if possible.
G'day Stuart,
The Exped Universal Coupler Kit would be perfect for joining two of these mats together.
