Does this down wash contain fragrance?
G'day El,
Nikwax Downwash is water-based, biodegradable, and contains no PFCs, VOCs, optical brighteners, or added fragrance.
Will this remove odours and not clump the down?
G'day Phoe,
You can use Nikwax Down Wash to wash your down jacket. The down wash will clean the down without stripping it of its natural oils. We've got a handy blog article about washing down sleeping bags that will help with a jacket too. Essentially the down will be clumped when it comes out of the washing machine or laundry tub so there are a few options for drying and de-clumping the down.
I have 5 bags to wash. How many bottles will I need?
G'day Soo,
Nikwax indicates that you should use 100ml per 15L of water for handwashing, or 100ml per load in a front loader (with two clothing items, Nikwax don't recommend washing sleeping bags in a washing machine). We know that lots of manufacturers specify you can wash your down bag in a front loading washing machine, so just make sure you run the machine through a rinse cycle to ensure there is no residual detergent in the machine. I have used 150ml to wash my bag in a front loading washing machine. So to be safe I would order three bottles of Down Wash, as one bottle should do two sleeping bags.
