Staff tip:Heads up! Just to cover our bums, the fuel bottle is not included with the stove.
Yep, the "International" version of the Whisperlite can. Just make sure to swap over to the included Diesel fuel jet on the stove before using it with this fuel type.
Here's what MSR have to say about it: Diesel is very dirty, has a strong and pervasive odor, is difficult to light, and is more likely to cause your stove to flare up. But it is also inexpensive and requires less energy to refine from crude oil, so it has a positive environmental story to be told.

use with S2S x-pot1 answer
I notice a few questions about suitable pots to use and wonder whether the 2.8L Sea to Summit X-Pot would be ok. Will the metal wind shield be problematic for the silicone sides of the x-pot?
Anthea - Gelorup, WA(1 year ago)
G'day Anthea,
As long as the metal windshield isn't heating up and touching the physical sides of the pot, and the flames from the Whisperlite are not exceeding the max flame circle printed on the base of all X-range cook wear, you shouldn't have any trouble!

Will this stove accomodate a snowy code :127381 dual pot set1 answer
Is the GSI ultralite dual pot set code 127381 sit ok on this stove
Meredith - South Bunbury, WA(4 years ago)
G'day Meredith,
We don't currently have any stock to physically try this out for you, but based on what we know these pot sets are a little too small for the Whisperlite Stove. The burner is a little larger than your average hike style stove, so we'd recommend a pot set with a wider base of support like the MSR SS Alpine Set, or the MSR Ceramic Pots.
Leece - Snowys(4 years ago)
Do you have any pot recommendations for this stove1 answer
Just dug a old version of this out of the garage. Any recommendations for a pot set. Was thinking about grabbing https://www.snowys.com.au/furno-large-cook-set-with-kettle but open to suggestions.
Nick - Melbourne(4 years ago)
G'day Nick,
The Furno Large Cookset & Kettle is a good option to use on the Whisperlite stove, however, you can use most of the wider based pot sets in the Hiking Cookware category will also suit. The Sea to Summit Sigma Pots and the MSR SS Alpine Cooksets are quite popular.

Camp oven1 answer
Wondering if I could use a camp oven on top of this when I cant have fire. Just worried about the weight of the camp oven.
Patrick - Waverley(4 years ago)
G'day Patrick,
It's not something we've been asked before, or something we'd recommend to be honest as they've not been designed for heavy cast iron pots. MSR stipulate that pots larger than 25cm diameter shouldn't be used, which would rule out most camp ovens, other than maybe a 2 Quart size, but even then it's not something we'd really recommend.

fuel pump query1 answer
i have read that the fuel pump on these, otherwise great stoves, are a bit of a weak point. are they easy to replace under warranty if they fail?
james - cessnock(4 years ago)
G'day James,
Thanks for getting in touch, we're not aware of any specific issues with the fuel pump, but it could be that people have issues if they're always running these on petrol. They will run best on shellite, and it is recommended that shellite be the main fuel source as petrol can leave behind impurities that could clog up your pump. If you're regularly using petrol then it might need a little more regular maintenance. If there are any warrant related issues then these can be assessed and addressed by our national warranties team for you.

MSR Whisperlite International 1 answer
What jet do I use for shellite fuel?
Jason - Oxley(5 years ago)
G'day Jason,
I've just double checked the manual and chatted to one of the staff members who has the Whisperlite International and he said there is just one jet in the stove so you can use shellite without having to switch or change anything. He did suggest that using shellite will give you the cleanest and fastest burn.

What is the best fuel to use1 answer
What is the cleanest fuel to use that will leave no or very little soot and is turpentine the same as shellite?
Jason Reginato - Oxley(5 years ago)
G'day Jason,
Generally, the Whisperlite International Multi Fuel Stove will run the cleanest and hottest on Shellite. Shellite is different to Turpentine so they're not able to be interchanged.

Fuel for a beginner1 answer
My brother gave me this stove, and a fuel bottle for Chrissy. I’ve never used these before as we usually just work with the campfire for cooking. Can I use a butane canister as fuel? If not, what is the easiest fuel to use? Thank you
Adriane - Hallam(6 years ago)
G'day Adriane,
The Whisperlite International Multi-Fuel Stove can be used with Shellite or Kerosene. You should be able to pick this up from most camping or hardware stores. You won't be able to use gas with this stove.

Does it also work with methylated spirits?1 answer
Kerosine is a little hard to find. How about methylated sprits? Does it also wirk with methol?
Christian - Murgon(6 years ago)
G'day Christian,
Sorry mate but the MSR Whisperlite International won't run on methylated spirits. It's designed to burn shellite, kerosene or unleaded fuel. If you're after a stove that runs on methylated spirits have a look at our range of stoves from Trangia here.

The MSR Whisperlite International Multi Fuel Stove doesn't come with the fuel bottle, they're sold separately. You can grab one of the fuel bottles here.

Can you adjust the heat range?1 answer
Can you adjust the heat range?
Paul - 6162(7 years ago)
G'day Paul,
The only way to control the temperature of the MSR Whisperlite International Multi-Fuel Stove is to reduce the flow of fuel through the fuel bottle valve. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a regulator to allow you additional controls to maximise simmer options.

Travel Size?1 answer
What is the smallest size this unit packs down to on its own?
What is the size of the refillable fuel bottle?
Christopher - CANBERRA, ACT(8 years ago)
Hi Christopher, the stove alone measures approximately 160 x 90 x 75 cm and the pump will store within these measurements. As for the fuel bottle, it depends on which size you choose, the smallest 325 ml bottle measures 19L x 6.5Ø cm, whilst the largest 887 ml bottle is 30L x 8Ø cm. You can see these bottles by searching for "MSR Fuel Bottle" on our website.
