May I know if I can use a Campmaster butane gas cartridge for this Gasmate portable stove? The reason is that the Campmaster butane is super accessible from Kmart and Big W which are super close to where I live. While I know you will recommend using only Gasmate butane, I just need to ask if it is safe to use other brand of butane or if you know people who actually interchange gas cartridge brands in their stoves without a problem? Thank you so much in advance!
G'day,
Yep, ofcourse. As long as its butane and has the same canister connection there's no reason why you can't use alternative brands - we do!
I keep reading it doesn’t work well in really cold weather. Just how cold are you saying? As in, what temp Celsius?
G'day Janine,
This depends on the canisters you use and the mixture they contain, but generally, they won't work at all at around 0C or below. At temperatures below 5C, you'll find that they struggle to work, so we'd recommend storing the canisters wrapped inside something insulated over winter so they're not too cold to work for your morning cuppa.
I used this unit for the first time a fortnight ago and woke up to a chilly 2C morning. The burner really struggled to boil my coffee. What I did find is that if I placed the canister in warm water for a few seconds before use, it performs considerable better. It only needs a slight increase in temperature to do the trick, This might need to be repeated for a large cooking job.
G'day Mal,
Thats an excellent tip! I've certainly been stuck in a grump on a cold morning with a butane stove and no hot cuppa coffee.
Warming the canisters up really does help.
Question: how do you warm the water to warm the cannister ?
G'day Jean-Marie,
The gas canisters will still work, they're just not very efficient, so you'll be able to heat up some water to warm up your canisters without issues. Once warm, you'll get better performance and be able to do proper cooking.
Even with our LPG set up we boil the water around dinner prep and use a Thermos (big stainless one from Snowys..) to store hot water overnight. You get immediate tea or coffee, instant porridge and hot water for a quick wash.. This avoids the butane cannister having a cold start..
I am after a stove to cook a hotpot or steamboat. About 1 to 2 litres of stock that needs to boil for about an hour. Would this work and how long would a gas canister last?
G'day Peter,
The first thing I'll mention is that we're not able to ship these, so it might be tricky to get your hands on one from us unless you're planning an SA or Qld road trip. In most conditions, you'd use about one canister per hour of cooking, so it could work for your hotpot/steamboats.
Do you stock Non-China-made stoves?
G'day Raj,
These stoves are made in China. At this point in time, the only stoves we know of manufactured outside of this region are the Coleman Dual Fuel Stoves, they are made in the USA.
We’re after this kind of stove as it’s the size & gas type we want, but there are no other online options through Snowy’s for this kind of stove. Would be great for regular interstate customers to have an option for this kind of stove. Why not offer it online?!
G'day Ethan,
We'd love to be able to offer this option for delivery, however, unfortunately, we've had a lot of issues with this particular item getting damaged in transit. The exterior case is a plastic material, that seems to break no matter how well we pack the stoves, so for this reason, we're unable to ship them at this point in time. You might have to try and grab one from a local retailer.
Similar products state safe for both indoor and outdoor use, but one doesnt say?
G'day Reese's Buttercups,
The Travelmate II Portable Stove is only designed for outdoor use. All portable Butane and LPG stoves that we sell are only designed for outdoor use.
Trying to get a safe cooktop to take away for a weeken.
G'day D,
The Travelmate II Portable Stove isn't really going to cut if for a 10L pot. It might take longer than 20 minutes to boil up a pot that large, and it's really just designed to take standard size pots and pans (5L and smaller).
How is the heat to cook sausage for two?
G'day Peter,
The Travelmate II Portable will have enough heat to boil a kettle or cook sausages. They will be most effective when the fuel bottle is full and the temperature isn't too low.
.
G'day Brentyn,
Apologies for the confusion here. Gasmate
Will this stove put out enough heat to do things like fry eggs & bacon, & cook sausages?
G'day Louise,
The Gasmate Travelmate II Stove should put out plenty of heat for you to cook up a nice breaky of bacon and eggs!
