If the mat in your rooftop tent isn’t as comfy as you’d like or is in desperate need of an upgrade then the RTM 1400 from Darche is the easy solution.
This mat is designed to replace the mat in any 1400mm wide rooftop tent. Made with open cell high-density foam for soft support, this mat also resists mould and absorbs sound to eliminate any noise. The top is made from 75D peach finished polyester which resists wear and
Set up is easy thanks to the fast self-inflation/deflation valves, and this mat comes with compression straps for easy pack up and storage. Pop
Hi, are both ends able to be inflated from one end, or do you need to climb into the tent to inflate the other end?
G'day Matt,
These are essentially two separate mattress pieces joined in the middle for folding purposes. So that means there are valves on both ends. The easiest way to sort this is once the RTT is open, fold the mattress over so you can access both sets of valves and it can inflate and be done up without having to crawl on it. Can be helpful to have a 12v pump to speed up this process as well.
Hope that helps!
Just wondering how thick this becomes once it's deflated.
G'day Jake,
We dont have this measurement I'm sorry, but I can confirm they'll pack away in the Roof Top Tent no worries.
When fully packed away they're rolled, and the measurements of one half in 23cm in diameter. I'd probably hazard a guess at around 5cm thick if you squish all the air out.
What is the R-Value of this mat? I am going snow camping. How does it compare to say the black wolf hextherm or the monstamat?
G'day Andrew,
Unfortunately, Darche hasn't had these mattresses tested, so it's hard to know their R-value. They're quite a different style of mattress to the Blackwolf and Zempire Mats you've mentioned, as they use a high density open cell foam. If you're heading to the snow we'd recommend adding an anti-condensation mat in your RTT, and taking plenty of warm sleeping gear.
I would like to know if it's possible to purchase an equivalent mattress for 1800. I haven't been able to find any information so far.
G'day Michael,
At this point, Darche only makes the Roof Top Tent Mattress in the 1400 and 1600 size. We might be able to special order a replacement foam mattress that is the same as the supplied mattress if you're needing a replacement though. Feel free to email us and we'll see what we can get for you: service@snowys.com.au
I have the AEG High Pressure & Volume Inflator/Deflator (https://www.aegpowertools.com.au/products/details/18v-12v-hybrid-high-pressure-volume-inflator-deflator-skin-bhpv18-0) and would like to use the deflating function in speeding up pack up. Will this work?
G'day Jay,
Yes, you could use your AEG Inflator/Deflator to help aid some air to the mattress, but we'd recommend doing so with caution, as over-inflation could cause damage to the mattress. In terms of deflating, it should help a little, however, based on the look of the high volume hose nozzle I'm not sure how effectively it will draw air out of the mattress.
Was wondering if you know of a pump that would fit that could be used with this? Especially with deflating.
G'day Kara,
All of our airbed pumps, both manual and electric will be able to help with the inflation of this mattress, however, in terms of deflating, the best option is to open the valve and use your body weight to expel as much air as you can. The pumps don't have the function required to pull air out of a mattress of this type.
Just wondering if this can be used in regular tents to sleep on the floor or a stretcher?
I can't see why you couldn't use it straight on the tent floor, Ned, it's just a self-inflating mattress designed to work with the folding action of a rooftop tent.
It does have some velcro on the base that keeps it in place inside a tent, this could collect dirt if it was used directly on a tent floor. I'm not sure if you could roll it up like a regular self-inflating mat either, that's not something I've ever tried sorry.
Are these available for the 1600 Darche or 23Zero roof top tents?
G'day TJ,
The RTM 1600 isn't something we sell at the moment, however, you can purchase them directly from Darche, or we'd be happy to look at special ordering one for you if you wanted to flick us through an email.
Parent and I are both around 100kg
G'day CJ,
There is no specified weight rating on the RTM 1400 but we've sold plenty of these to people of similar weights with no issues at all.
can i put this on top of my existing roof top mattress or would it be to thick/uncomfortable with them both
I can't think of any reason why you couldn't do this with regards to comfort or it fitting with the tent in the open position, but I've never tried it. The only problem I can see you running into is the ability to fold the tent with two mattresses inside, I think this may be a bit tight.
Just wondering if the mattress thickness deflated allows for the storage of bedding in the Darche panorama 2 RTT
G'day Cameron,
I have on good authority that whilst these will deflate down its best not to have any more than sheets and a thin blanket left on the bed when its packed up. Anymore than this may put the Roof Top Tent under too much strain.
Also wondering anyone else's comparison to standard darche mattress
G'day Nick,
There have been some reports of the Roof Top Tent Mattress being a little noisy. Have a feel of the material it is a little louder than some but fairly similar to others. I've had a look at the All Terrain Mattresses and they appear to have the same top as the Roof Top Tent Mattress, so I would say they're going to be the same.
Are these one mattress or is it actually two seperate mattresses? If its two what holds them together in the middle?
G'day Jason,
I've just double checked with one of the staff here who has the RTM 1400 and he's confirmed that this is one mat joined by fabric at the base.
Is the Top outer layer of the mattress attached to inner form layer ?
G'day Nathan,
I couldn't find any info on this one so I've been and checked out our display model and it's definitely not bonded.
Can you leave it in your roof top tent when closed up ??
G'day Sharon,
Yes the RTM 1400 mattress can be deflated and stored in the tent when closed.
