Don’t judge a sleeping bag by its cover. The Oztent Rivergum XL Sleeping Bag Series II has a rugged canvas exterior, with a cosy removable fleece lining and extra width so even the largest of statures will enjoy a good night's sleep.
This sleeping bag features a comfort rating of 3°C, and a lower limit of -3°C, thanks to the two layers of T-Therm polyester fibres. The ripstop canvas shell provides unprecedented durability, and the contoured hood helps trap warmth inside the bag. It's got a zip connect feature which allows two bags to be joined together to form a double, the inner storage pocket allows you to stash valuables safely, and the fleece liner can be removed for use as a summer weight bag.
When you need a sleeping bag that's big, warm, and tough, the Oztent Rivergum XL Sleeping Bag Series II is ideal.

Staff tip:These are sent to us with a mix of left and right zips. You will receive a randomly selected sleeping bag.
Would two of these joined be okay in 23zero1400 Bandit? Not sure if the 1400 Alaska would be too tight with two people.
Alex - Kinross, WA(10 months ago)
G'day Alex,
You could get away with this, just make sure you get ones with zips on the opposite sides. You can give us a call or email to make sure we can get one of each. There would be a lot of sleeping bag when the two are joined but you should have lots of room to move!

Zipper connect1 answer
Just about to order 1 sleeping bag, I'm going to need 2 at a later date, but the drop down menu want allow me to choose. L/R
Vanessa - Bushland Beach, QLD(1 year ago)
G'day Vanessa,
The L or R bags are not individually barcoded, so we have no way of knowing at any time whether we have both options in our current stock. Best bet is to call our Customer Support team on 1300 914 007 if you need a specific zip side, and they can check availability for you.

Storage Bag1 answer
The storage bag does not look very durable. Do you stock any alternatives i.e. a compression sack?
Mike - Bushland Beach, QLD(1 year ago)
G'day Mike,
The storage bag that comes with the Rivergum sleeping bag is actually pretty good, as long as you pack your sleeping bag well instead of trying to stuff and jam it in, you shouldn't have any issues. If you'd like an alternative option, check out the Sea to Summit Dry Sack, or Big River Dry Sack in the 35L size.

Opening at the feet1 answer
Hi, can this be opened along the bottom to let feet be free whilst a left/right bag are connected together?
Daniel - Melbourne, VIC(1 year ago)
G'day Daniel,
Yes it can, there is an independent foot sip along the bottom edge, and the side ones which join are separate...so you could even have one bag zipped up and one bag opened up at the feet if you have a cold person and a hot person sharing the bed. Hope that helps!

Join together1 answer
can this be join together with oztent cotton mega hooded sleeping bag? so could you recommend one that will
Emma - Warrnambool, VIC(2 years ago)
G'day Emma,
The second sleeping bag you've mentioned is an Oztrail bag, so as these two are different brands they use different zip hardware & cannot be joined together. If you are wantin to join two bags together, you'll need to get 2 of the same bag, eg. 2 x Oztent Rivergums. Bare in mind you'll need to get 1 x Left zipper & 1 x Right zipper, which can be selected from the drop-down menu.

Wash before use?1 answer
Would you recommend washing this sleeping bag before use? I am really worried it will lump up even with hand washing.
Marian - Gulgong, NSW(3 years ago)
G'day Marian,
That personal preference, but I've personally never washed sleeping bags before use. Generally sleeping bags can be challenging to wash, so we recommend using a liner, and spot cleaning if required - avoid actually washing if possible.
Lauren - Snowys(3 years ago)
Waterproof?1 answer
Some ripstop fabric is also waterproof. What about the Rivergum outer shell?
Maz - Gulgong, NSW(3 years ago)
G'day Maz,
No, it's not waterproof, it's ultimately just a lightweight cotton 'canvas' similar to a heavy-duty apparel fabric. It's nice and light a soft.

Fitting in Darche Swag1 answer
Hi, Will this roll up inside a Darche 900 dusk to Dawn swag with a 5cm mattress and fit inside the bag ?
James - Wellington Point, QLD(3 years ago)
G'day James,
We've had mixed comments from customers who roll up their super chunky swag sleeping bags with the whole swag bundle. It seems the original bag will be ok, but some customers prefer to upgrade to the larger 1100 bag. I think it just comes down to individual strength and how particular you are when rolling up the swag. The short answer is, yes it can.

Actual length1 answer
Does the external length dimension include the hood, or is it just for the bag part?
Derek - Fadden, ACT(4 years ago)
G'day Derek,
Yes, the external length dimensions include the hood. The maximum user height is 220cm, so anyone around that height or shorter will be comfortable in this bag.

Zipping series 1 & 2 together1 answer
I am wondering whether the series 1 & 2 zips are compatible to join them together?
Jack - Geelong Mc, VIC(4 years ago)
G'day Jack,
I've just spoken to Oztent on this one, and the zip hardware hasn't changed. You'll have no issue zipping a Series 1 or 2 bag together.

Summer bag1 answer
What does it mean where it says “ Inner fleece liner can be removed to become a summer bag”
David - Terranora (4 years ago)
G'day David,
This is such a versatile sleeping bag for all seasons! The inner fleece liner, which is used to provide extra warmth in cold conditions can be removed to either be washed - so you don't have to wash the whole sleeping bag or you can use it on its own as a sleeping bag for warmer weather - separate from the main sleeping bag. I hope this makes sense!

Is the hood remove able?1 answer
I want to use in a caravan as bedding for touring in southern Australia
Bob - Rockhampton(5 years ago)
G'day Bob,
The hood on the Oztent Rivergum XL isn't removable, so sorry if that doesn't work for your plans. If you're looking for an option without a hood that you can use on a double bed maybe check out the Roman Camper Double 400, Coleman Big Game, or Coleman Pilbara C-5.

How does the Rivergum XL compare to the Darche Cold Mountain Canvas 900? Specs & price seem similar, how about quality?1 answer
How does the Rivergum XL compare to the Darche Cold Mountain Canvas 900? Specs & price seem similar, how about quality?
Luke - Ocean Grove(6 years ago)
G'day Luke,
Thank you for getting in touch, the Darche Cold Mountain Canvas 900 and the Rivergum XL Sleeping Bag are both pretty similar, the temperature rating, and size are fairly similar. The main differences being the Rivergum is slightly wider at 100cm and it has a zip out fleece liner. The Cold Mountain is 90cm and has a flannel inner liner (not a zip out one), it also has dual zippers so you can stick your feet out of either side! We think both are a great option, and both have great reviews online.

Who's left and right?1 answer
When you specify left or right zip, does it refer to when you're looking at the bag, or when you're actually in it? Cheers
Matt - 5125(6 years ago)
G'day Matt,
Great question, the zipper is based on the side while lying in the bag on your back. For example, the left-hand zipper will be on your left-hand side if you're in the sleeping bag on your back.

Where is it made?1 answer
I wanted to know where the bag is made? In Australia? I have the same question about the Oz trail cotton canvas mega sleeping bag. Just trying to keep Aus made in mind while shopping :)
Zoe - Coburg (6 years ago)
We don't have any Australian made sleeping bags sorry, Zoe, they are all made overseas, predominantly in China. Unfortunately, any product made in Australia comes with a much higher price tag... something we as consumers have an aversion to.

What is the best way to store the bag?1 answer
What is the best way to store the bag?
Aaron - Thornlie(6 years ago)
G'day Aaron,
The Oztent Rivergum XL Sleeping Bag comes with a storage bag so you can store it directly in that. Alternately you may wish to store it loosely stuffed into a large pillow case or similar to allow the fibres to stay open and not be compacted.

standard and XL zip together?1 answer
Will the XL bag zip together with the standard size rivergum bag? We already have one of the discontinued standard size bags. It seems like the length is the same on each (235 cm) and just the width varies from 85 to 100cm, so hoping they are ompatible for zipping?
Mike - QUINNS ROCKS(7 years ago)
G'day Mike,
You're right in your assumption there, you can connect your Oztent Rivergum XL Sleeping Bag with the standard sized one, just make sure you get ones with zips on the opposite sides.

Versus Blackwolf Tuff All season?2 answers
How does this compare against Blackwolf Tuff All season
Joe - Sydney(7 years ago)
G'day Joe,
There are a couple of key differences between the Oztent Rivergum XL Sleeping Bag and the Black Wolf Tuff All Season King Sleeping Bag. The Black Wolf is bigger when in use but also packs down larger as well, it also comes with a lifetime warranty compared to the Rivergum's 12-month warranty. The Rivergum will stand up better in the colder temperatures but is a little heavier because of that.
Ben - Snowys(7 years ago)
The zips are way better on the Rivergum. The Rivergum outer is much better in terms of wear.

How do you tell if it is a left hand zipped bag or a right hand zipped bag 1 answer
Is it from the in side of the sleeping bag or from looking at it
Ryan - Vic(8 years ago)
G'day Ryan,
I've just checked this for you, and the zipper location is determined by the side of your body the zipper is on if you're inside the bag lying on your back.

sizes1 answer
Do these come in smaller sizes? It seems like all these bags are huge. I love this bag but am worried it will be too big.
Joanne - , (8 years ago)
Oztent did make this in a slightly smaller size Joanne, but they discontinued the model and we recently ran out of the last of our stock. Unfortunately most bags similar to this have large dimensions, but they are still really warm. As a guide, a female would use the "Comfort Rating" of -5â°C as a limit of comfort for this bag, but you could add extra liners and some warm clothing to extend this.

Machine Washable 1 answer
Hi,
Are these machine washable?
ArchieMarion - MARION, SA(9 years ago)
Manufacturers directions are hand wash only for these Archie. They are pretty bulky so I'm not sure you'd fit them in a washing machine anyway.
