A solution for stuffy tents, the Coleman 12” Rechargeable Camping Fan moves air like no other camping fan we have seen.
It operates quietly on two different speeds directly from 12V, 240V or go cordless with the inbuilt rechargeable battery so you can use it in your tent, under your awning, or even in your house.
Also equipped with independently operating LED lights, and an oscillating head, the Coleman Rechargeable Fan is a summer camper’s best friend.
Just wondering if using the fan at night and then recharging it during the day from the car battery will flatten the car battery? Or, how long can you charge something like this without running down a car battery?
G'day Mez,
Yes, recharging anything from your vehicle accessory outputs will drain your car battery. Depending on how new your car battery is, you might find that your car battery goes flat within 30-60 minutes, so we wouldn't recommend trying to charge this fan, as it will take 8 hours to fully re-charge.
Can you remove the battery to run off the mains if using at home? Will it have an adverse effect on the unit?
G'day Colin,
You won't be able to remove the battery from the circuit and use it, however, you can plug it in using the supplied 240V cord and use the unit with the battery in place, it just won't charge and run at the same time.
What is The difference between this fan and the lithium iron Coleman fan same size Apart from price please And does this one Actually show when it’s fully charged as in the red light goes off or a green light comes on so you know exactly when it’s fully charged Thank you
G'day Loretta,
You've asked this question on the older model fan with the lead-acid battery, the other model in the same size has a lithium-ion battery, which will give a better overall battery life, and be a little lighter. The lithium-ion model will show when it is fully charged.
One of the blades was broken. Do you have any spare parts for the fan blade?
G'day Joel,
We don't carry spares for our products however there are two options that might be applicable. If this is a manufacturing issue please complete a Warranty Claim Form through our website and we'll sort it out for you. If the fan is out of warranty or was broken due to human error, you can contact Coleman Austalia directly on 1800 224 350.
Could you list the differences between the 8'' and the 12'' Coleman Rechargeable Fan models? From reading I can see the 12'' is larger :) more powerful...any other differences (saves me checking word for word)? Thanks.
G'day Toni,
The two models are pretty similar, the 12" is really just a bigger version of the 8". They have the same battery, same functions and same cords. The 12" also has an oscillating head so will swing similarly to a pedestal fan.
Can you hang this fan from a camper trailer ceiling rod or will it swing around a lot?
G'day Dani,
Great question, I think the fan would probably start swinging around as it's not designed to be hung. I'd suggest though strapping it to the rod with a couple of strips of velcro and even packing it out with some foam, as this would help to stabilise it and dampen any vibrations.
How long are the 12v and 240v cords.
G'day Barry,
Our expert measuring team have just measured the rechargeable Fan with LED 12" for you and found that it has a 490cm 12V cable and 135cm 240V cable.
Does this unit also take regular batteries? If we have no power ,ie cyclone can I use them as backup?
G'day Tracey,
Unfortunately, aside from using the 12V DC or 240V
The fan comes with 2 plugs: a standard 240V plug and a "cigarette lighter" plug. My caravan has 12V "T-plug" outlets. Can I get a "T-plug" lead for the fan or are there any "T-plug to cigarette lighter plug" adaptors available, please?
There' nothing readily available, unfortunately, Terry. You could probably make something yourself but we don't have the parts to do so. If you do this you should make sure you're sticking to the recommended power ratings and I'd recommend having an in-line fuse. It's probably worth noting that doing this may also void your warranty.
I'd suggest either checking in with a specialist caravan shop or even somewhere like Jaycar, they may have the parts you need to put something together.
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help.
Hello, can this unit be recharged via USB? Or does it require seperate battery specific charging units?
G'day Kevin,
The Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED 12" has two charge cables, a 12v with cigarette plug and a 240V cable with standard Australian Plug so they are not USB rechargeable. The only USB rechargeable fan we've currently got in the Companion Aero Breeze 17cm.
Hi again, This may be a stupid question, but if I'm camping where there is no mains power, and I'm not planning on driving around but will hopefully be swimming, bushwalking and lazing around, how do I recharge this fan? How many times could I charge it from the car battery (without driving around for ages) without making the car battery flat? Is there something I need to buy to recharge it? Thank you!
G'day Rachel,
Outside of the 12V DC or 240V AC, there is no other way to recharge the battery unless you choose to purchase a separate battery pack to use as a power bank which would considerably add to your costs.
Alternatively, we do stock the Coleman Lighted Tent Fan & Stand, however, this is only powered through a D-cell battery and is not rechargeable. You would get approx. 10hrs of running time on the high setting with this fan and around 30hrs on low, per battery.
Fan operation when camping without a power source can be a tricky one!
Hi there, Could you please tell me whether the Coleman CPX6 rechargeable battery that you sell would charge this fan? Do you know how long the fan would take to fully charge using this, and how many recharges of the fan we would get before the rechargeable battery would need recharging itself? Hope that isn't too confusing! Thank you!
G'day Rachel,
The Coleman Rechargeable Fan has its own built-in battery that will only charge from 240v or 12v, so they're not compatible with the CPX6 batteries, these are designed for a different range of Coleman products. The 12" fan will take approximately 8 hours to charge and last for 4-6 hours, you would then need to charge it again.
Can you keep the fan running while charging on 12v? When I connect to 12v and have l it switched to DC it stops. But when switched to AC then it both runs and has red charging light.
G'day Patrick,
My understanding from our discussions with Coleman about this is that it can't be charged and run simultaneously on 12V DC power. It can, however, do both simultaneously on 240V as long as the switch is flicked to AC.
Purchased fan and was running ok for about 3 weeks. Then the fan would randomly stop on power and also when full charged overnight. Took it back to Kempsey camping world who replaced it with a nee one. Now the same thing happened after only using it a couple of times. Why is this happening? Regards Andrea
G'day Andrea,
We're not entirely sure why you've had the same issue twice in a row with your Colman Rechargeable Fan with LED. It might have potentially been a batch issue with the batch Kempsey Camping World had.
G'day Anna,
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're having with your Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED 12". If you'd like to give us a call on 1300 914 007 or flick us an email at service@snowys.com.au and our customer service team will be able to give you a hand with getting it all sorted.
What type of battery is it, (model #) and are they easy to change as I’m thinking you could take a fully charged battery as spare
G'day Lee,
I've just had a look at the owners manual for the Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED. It says that you can replace the battery by simply connecting the cords to the right spots on the battery. It says that the battery just needs to be compatible with AC 220-240V 50HZ but doesn't specify a specific battery type you'd need.
How long is the 12 v cord and also the 240v cord?
G'day Paul,
Armed with my trusty tape measure I've just ventured down to the shop floor and measured both the cords on the Coleman Rechargeable Fan With LED 12". The 12V cord comes in just clear of 5m, whilst the 240V cord measures at around about 1.5m.
What is the wattage of fan when running on electrical outlet?
G'day Ruby,
The Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED 12" chews up 22 watts when running on an electrical outlet. If you were considering the 8" variety, then that uses 16 watts.
Just wondering if it can be in use and still be charging on 240?
G'day Mardi,
You can! Just ensure that the Coleman Rechargeable Fan unit is switched to AC.
When charging the unit using 240V, does the switch need to be on AC or DC? The manual meantions DC but also says that DC is to be used only when running off the 12V connector.
G'day Andrew,
I've spoken with Coleman. You can charge the battery via 12V or 240V when switched to DC, however, in my own testing here in store, it appears you can also charge from 240V when flicked to AC. You will definitely need to flick to AC if you want to run the fan directly from the power source.
We are camping in national park with no power. We can recharge this through cigarette lighter in vehicle when we go for day trips, how long does it take to recharge in this method?
G'day Sally,
When you first purchase the Coleman Rechargeable 12" Fan, the battery needs an initial charge of 18 hours. Thereafter, once the battery is flat, it takes approximately 8 hours to fully recharge.
HI Snowy's Can you please tell me if this has a time switch built in.. ie can be set to run for 2/4/6 hours before turning itself off?
G'day Paul,
Unfortunately, no timer switch with the Coleman Rechargeable Fans.
Placed an order on 11 Oct and need within 10 business days. Fingers crossed.
G'day John,
It's going to take anywhere between 4-12 business days for the Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED 12" to reach Katherine.
In future, you're able to check this for yourself using the delivery estimator tool under the 'add to bag' button on our website.
12/240/ fan delivery time
G'day Bev,
It will currently take 5-6 Business Days for the Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED 12" to arrive in Yeppoon, Queensland.
Has the problem with the charging light been fixed. Shows when it is fully charged. think Coleman would have had this corrected by now.
G'day Mike,
To date this hasn't been sorted by Coleman yet and the charging light is still staying on when the fans are fully charged. I know that they're aware of the issue and I expect that it will be resolved at some point but I can't say exactly when that will be. The good thing is that we know it doesn't affect the operation of the fan at all, they still work well! As long as you keep it on the charger for a good 8 hours or so you can be confident that you've got a pretty full charge.
Some one asked this question and I can't see an answer. Could you find out what Ah it draws when being used in low and high mode. Please disregard my question about 12 and 240v usage I asked last night.
G'day Mike.
The Coleman Rechargeable Fans have a 6V / 4.5Ah built in battery which will give you some idea on the Ah required. For the 12" unit, the runtime is 4 hrs on high and 6 hrs on low. Unfortunately, they don't provide much more in terms of technical specifications.
I have had discussions with a couple of people about this. The battery is 6V @ 4.5amps. The amps would be a bit high to protect the battery. So lets say 6v at 3.5-4 amps. Now if using 12v halve the amps - so about 1.75-2amps. So with the LED lights on and running on high I think it would be drawing 1.75-2 amps. With just the fan on high maybe round 1.25-1.5 and with the fan on low probably below 1 amp. Watts /12v =Amps. So 4A*6v =24 watts 24W / 12 v =2 amps. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the input Mike!
Can it be used while plugged in to 12v power? Will this keep it charged so as it works all night? We are in Brisbane and can it be here before Thursday nxt week please thanks
G'day Sandra,Â
The Coleman rechargeable fan comes with 240V or 12V adaptors included and can be used directly from 12V source. As for whether the battery will drain, or stay fully charged if the fan is on when plugged into a 12V source - we are not entirely sure about that.Â
I've put this query to Coleman, so hopefully we can get a solid answer for you ASAP. As for delivery, to the metro Brisbane area we would generally say that it will take approximately 3-4 business days from dispatch.Â
Hi Sandra,Â
I've just heard back from Coleman, and they've told me that the battery won’t draw down whilst on direct feed so you should be able to run it from 12V, and then unplug it to use in your tent at night with a mostly fully charged battery.
Is this right: Only 8" can oscillate up/down (in a spiral) and only 8" can be locked to point in any direction. 12" has stronger blow 12" is bigger and heavier 12" has 8 lights up higher; 8" has 6 lights down lower. (So presumably 12" makes better light in a tent?) Neither can run off power, only charge battery. Otherwise basically the same? I'll be using this for car camping in a tent.
G'day SingleMum,
Everything you've listed is correct aside from one thing - this fan can run off 12V directly, 240 directly or from the charged battery.Â
If you're wanting a fan to use in the tent, I'd recommend the 12" as the bigger size will cool down a tent a bit better than the 8".Â
I dont have any more details. Not sure why you asked this to be filled in
G'day Gary,
I've just measured our display model for you, and I've found that the diameter of the blades of the Coleman Rechargeable Fan with LED 12" is 26cm⌀.
My fan stops running after 2 hours on the low setting when fully charged. It then works on and off (about 1 minute at a time) with 1 hour breaks after causing me to have a broken sleep throughout the night.
G'day Karwai,
I'm so sorry to hear you had your sleep interrupted on your trip, that's no good at all - it sounds like you may be having trouble with your battery.
If you could email our Warranties Manager at warranty@snowys.com.au with your full name and order details then we can follow this up for you.Â
Hi , can i hang this fan from my Oztrail Fast Frame Tent roof?
I have purchased the 8" Coleman from Snowys and think it is fantastic. I would now like to order the 12" one as well now but would like to check on the physical size. The Coleman home page shows the size at 40x17x52cm @ 2.8k as opposed to 50x39x13 at 2.48k. Have I made a blunder. Thank you guys!
Hi.Can the fan be run direct from 12 or 240 volt current .?
I need to come back and correct myself here, sorry for the mixed information here. We were just testing the fan, and it looks like if you plug it in whilst the switch is set to 'DC', the fan will cut out and the battery will charge. However... if you flick the switch to 'AC' whilst the unit is plugged in to a 12V source, the fan will run and the charge indicator will show, so it seems that both can be done at the same time.
Once fully charged how long can the fan run off the internal battery?
Does the LED indicator switch off once fully charged? How long should this take?
