Transport1 answer
Hi Can you travel home from camping with the toilet full, such as in a trailer is it spill proof>
Tom - Newcastle(5 years ago)
G'day Tom,
You can transport the Porta Potti between locations while there is waste in the tank, however, it is something we suggest keeping an eye on. There are seals on the waste tank that should stop leakage however over time these seals can breakdown, so it is important to make sure you keep the toilet properly maintained to ensure the unit stays leak-free.

It says starter pack of additives available1 answer
Is this sufficient on its own or do you need to purchase additional chemicals?
Annabelle - Muswellbrook(7 years ago)
G'day Annabelle,
I've just wondered downstairs and taken apart one of the Thetford Portapotti Qube 165's to have a look for you. Inside is a little bottle of 150ml of solution which dilutes into 20L of water. That'll give you one full treatment in your Portapotti. So if you're only going to need one treatment, then the starter pack will do you just fine. If you're going to be away for a while, then you might need to grab some more chemicals.

Toilet paper1 answer
Can you use normal toilet paper or do you need to buy special paper?
Chris - Downer(7 years ago)
G'day Chris,
You can use normal toilet paper, but we'd recommend the softer kind as that will dissolve better. If you like you can use special quick dissolve toilet paper, but it can be a bit expensive.

Flush counter1 answer
Does this model have a flush counter? I would not like to use the toilet and not be able to flush it.
Chris - Downer(7 years ago)
G'day Chris,
That's fair enough! You will be able to flush the Thetford Portapotti, as it has a manual flush with a bellows pump.

Size1 answer
Are there any guidelines on selecting a holding tank size? Litres per person per day?
Stephen - Brisbane(8 years ago)
G'day Stephen,
Good question Stephen, but a very personal one so not so easy to answer. If you are a couple going away for a weekend at a time you can easily get away with a smaller capacity but if there are several more users and you go away for weeks then the largest capacity would probably suit you best. The easiest thing to consider is the flushes basically so check out the details on this on the following little info site I found about choosing toilets.

short stay camping1 answer
Hi, We've got 4 kids and want to camp, have always just stayed in places with toilets and showers but looks a bit limited where we are going this time - have never camped with something like this so bare with me please! If we bought something like this, would we just set it up in a shower tent near our tent and leave it there while we are there, then pack it up and put it on the trailer for the next stop? Probably a silly and basic question but I've literally got no idea! :)
Louise - Cobar(8 years ago)
G’day Louise,
Not a silly question at all – we’re always happy to give you advice if you need it. For set up a shower tent is a great idea for privacy, and this is transportable in a trailer – just make sure it’s not rattling around. Â
For that amount of people we wouldn’t recommend relying on it as your only toilet as it only has a 21L holding capacity. You will probably need to empty it at an appropriate dump point during your trip if you're planning a journey longer than a weekend with 4 kids and 2 adults using it regularly.Â
We’ve written a guide on going to the toilet when camping or hiking which may be helpful, which you can have a read of here. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know.Â

Where do you normally empty these toilets when travelling? 1 answer
Also what extra chemicals should we order?
Thanks
Andrew
Andrew - CANBERRA, ACT(8 years ago)
Hi Andrew, there are authorised dump points on caravan routes all over Australia. I’ve found this site online as it seems to be pretty comprehensive if you wanted to check all of your options: www.dumppoints.com. In terms of chemicals we’d recommend a product like the Thetford Aqua Kem Green (Snowy’s code: 20367) for your waste water tank. And then for your rinse water, use the Thetford Aqua rinse (20370).

can the waste be emptied into a domestic septic system1 answer
kathy - IPSWICH, QLD(9 years ago)
You can Kathy, but only if you use the right chemicals. Thetford Aqua Kem Green is septic safe, others affect the way in which a septic system operates, and should be emptied into a dedicated dump point.

Is this portable toilet suitable for a trailable sailing yacht.2 answers
Can the portable toilet be secured? Does it have a fixing system
Jac - Burnside(9 years ago)
Hi Jac, it looks like you can get 'Hold Down Kits' for the Porta Potti range, but it is not something we carry. Give us a call if you would like us to follow this up for you, and we can look into price and availability.
