The strap is sewn on, so it can't lay flat. You may be able to work out a DOY fix, however as it's got two metal frames you wouldn't be able to lay on it without a lot of discomfort.

It's unlikely, the back is similar to a standard deck chair and will support (depending on your torso height) up to around your shoulders.
