Can this RTT be mounted either way on the vehicle? The reason I ask is that if I tow my boat trailer it seems the trailer would impede the placement of the ladder. Maybe the ladder could sit on top of the trailer drawbar if there is room?
G'day Peter,
I'm assuming be either way you mean if can go off the side of your vehicle aswell as the rear? In that case, yes - absolutey!
If you check out the Darche set Up video we have listed, that will show you how the tent goes off the side of the vehicle.
Hope that helps!
is there a suitable annex for this tent? Thanks
G'day Caleb,
The Intrepidor has its entry point external to the tent, along end wall.
Roof Top Tents that are annex compatible have an overhanging verandah that is fully open, and you climb up underneath to tent to get in.
There is no annex option for the Intrepidor range.
Do you stock the kit to mount this RTT to the tub of my dual cab Amarok? the Darche description on their website says there is a kit to do this. Thx
G'day Tony,
As far as I'm aware there isn't a specific tub mount kit, Darche just advertise the Intrepidor as being compatible with Tub Mounting as it's a smaller, compact rooftop tent option.
The hardware provided by Darche is for standard roof racks, but if you are wanting to tub mount I believe you will need some kind of rack system regardless.
We recommend chatting to your nearest rack specialist for installation advice.
Hi, what’s the distance between the two parallel mounting channels? Thanks.
G'day Hao,
The distance between mounting channels on Darche 1400 RTT is 72cm.
Is this rtt any good in the cold, like say a windy night or cold nights such as 0 degrees
G'day Jacob,
Canvas tents are always going to be marginally better in that cold than synthetic alternatives, and with the addition of a second skin/fly it's abit more effective at managing heat loss.
Ultimately though, it's a tent, and by default doesn't really do much to keep you warm.
At those temperatures, you'll need to make sure your bedding cuts the mustard, and get across how to manage condensation. Really cold outside temperatures combined with warm bodies is where you'll find that issue occurring most, in any setup, not just with Roof Top Tents.
We've got a podcast on that if you need more info - you can find it HERE
In terms of wind, you may get abit of movement given that you're on top of a vehicle, but the tent itself is solid, so I'd be surprised if you had any issues with it failing.
Hi does this one have available annex to purchase?
G'day Glenda,
The design of the Intrepidor means that an annex can't be attached to it, to be compatible with an annex you need a rear overhang like the Panorama or Hi-view models.
Hey guys, is it okay to use the tent without the rain fly? Or what is the best way to keep the fly from making lots of noise in windy situations? Thanks
G'day Will,
You can use the tent without the rainfly if you're not expecting rain. In windy conditions we'd suggest ensuring that your adjustable straps are well secured, however there will always be some degree of wind flap.
Hi guys I was wondering if a darche cold mountain 1100 canvas sleeping bag could be left inside tent when packing up also what is the narrowest way to mount on roof when packed up, to have it fold towards the back of the vehicle or to have it unfold off the side of the vehicle
G'day Steve,
Darche doesn't recommend trying to pack sleeping bags into the rooftop tent prior to folding as you'll generally end up with a little too much bulk to get it packed away safely and securely. If you unfold it toward the back of the vehicle it will be a tiny bit wider than if you mount it to fold to the side of the vehicle.
Is it appropriate for i20 hyundai
G'day Karen,
You'll most likely find that this tent exceeds the roof load rating for your vehicle, but you'd need to check the specifications with the vehicle manufacturer. The tent can be attached to most roof rack systems, so yes you'll need roof racks, and will need to account for the weight of these when determining if your vehicle is suitable too.
I’ve got roof racks that read 80kg capacity on each end- does this mean 160kg total and hence it will carry 2 adults plus tent weight ? Or what roof rack capacity do I need to accommodate for 2 adults plus the tent?! Thanks !
G'day Jillian,
Your best bet will be to head over the to FAQs on Darche's website, they explain roof load ratings, and how to determine the difference between the dynamic and static weight, and whether or not your vehicle will be suitable.
Are you able to leave gear in the tent when closed ie sleeping bag ?
G'day Shannon,
In general you won't be able to leave a sleeping bag in the tent when folding it up, but if it's a very thin sleeping bag or sheet it could be ok.
Does the sky vent / window have a fly net so it can be left open at night?
G'day Jack,
Yes, there is mesh in the sky vent so you can leave it open at night time and be safe from the creepy crawlies. If you're wanting to stargaze you'll just need to leave the external fly off, so you'll want to make sure there is no rain forecast!
I recently received delivery of this from Snowys and see that some bungees and a square piece of net with straps on each corner are supplied but there is no mention of what they are used for in the instructions? Thanks.
Hi Joe, the bungee cords are designed to go on to three attachment points around the top of the side windows, they don't need to be used but if they are put in place before folding they pull the loose fabric inside the tent so it all folds neatly. You then remove them when the tent is set up and in use.
As for the mesh fabric you mention, this must be something new that I'm not aware of... it's frustrating when brands throw things in without any mention of what they are for!
It sounds to me like some sort of gear loft that can be suspended high in the tent, I don't have one set up that I can check immediately but I'd suggest looking for attachment points in the ceiling that line up with this fabric so that once attached can be used for storage whilst sleeping.
I want to mount the opening of the darche to the rear of the trailer does that create any difficulties
G'day Lindsay,
We can't think of any reasons why this would be an issue. Darche does indicate you'll just need to ensure the ladder is touching the ground to help support the weight. If you double-check the question below this on our site there is some information about ladder height.
Is it OK to mount this unit onto a trailer frame ? What is the lowest preferred mounting height of this unit for set up & access using the ladder for the fold out support ?
G'day Gavin,
I managed to get on to the team at Darche and they've confirmed you can mount the tent as low as you need, and then drill new hole in the ladder for the pins to secure it at that height.
Hi is the base of the tent aluminium or ply wood ? Thank you
G'day Claudio,
The base of this tent is a lightweight high density compressed alloy which is approximately 3cm thick.
