Built for blissful outback slumbers, Snowys’ range of rooftop tents stretches further than daylight at dawn.
Why a Rooftop Tent?
There’s a campground... then there’s camping above the ground. A rooftop tent not only brings you closer to the star-studded skies, but promotes a smaller footprint, more compact campsite, and an all-in-one outdoor overnighter! Most styles allow for pack-down with bedding still inside, allowing a faster getaway and more efficient setup at the next site. Others include foldaway telescopic ladders, capable of mounting to multiple entrance points for easy entry and exit. With additional accessories such as roof rails for secure fitting, anti-condensation mats to mediate internal moisture, replacement mattresses, and annexes for protection from wind and rain – we’ve got all the gear for your off-grid getaway from the tyre tracks to the roof racks.
Considerations for a Rooftop Tent
Your most ideal rooftop tent will first depend on the size of your vehicle, where some models are better suited to smaller vehicles and SUVs and others to larger 4WDs. Most 4WDs will support between 100kg and 150kg, including the weight of your roof racks. Snowys stock a range of models to suit relevant weight restrictions, where lighter models such as the 23ZERO Dakota Super Lite weigh as little as 41kg (not including the ladder) and more robust models like their Yowie 900 ABS weigh just under 95kg. Most rooftop tent models will feature T-slot mounting options and pre-fitted mounting rails for easy fitting to your roof racks, as well as mounting brackets and hardware compatible with most vehicle roof rack systems.
Types of Rooftop Tents

Be you a solo swashbuckler wanting room to wriggle, a power couple road tripping across the plains, or a family of four – the selection of RTTs here at Snowys comfortably sleep anywhere between 2 people, such as the 23ZERO Yowie, and 4-5 people, like the Darche Hi-View and 23ZERO Dakota 2200.
Brands
Every brand has its features and every feature has its benefits. Our RTT range is dominated by Darche and 23ZERO, both offering a multitude of desirable qualities including a tough canvas construction, water resistance, and UV protection. OZtrail also offer true fold-out, off-road versatility in their Canning, Birdsville, and Tarkine models, while Hardkorr’s Hard Shell Dual Lift Double Bed RTT literally raises expectations.
