When you’ve driven all day and the sun is starting to set, and a frosty breeze is blowing – the last thing on your priority list is to spend ages setting up your shelter for the night.
The Darche Xtender allows you to set your shelter set up right next to your vehicle without the need for any fuss. Just attach the Xtender 2 to your awning or unzip it to leave it there while you go about your adventure. The gusset window at the rear will give you the ventilation you need, while the 1500 mm waterhead rated fabric will protect you from the elements.
The detachable fly will also give you that extra protection that you need if the weather turns sour, or for warmer days leave it off for more airflow inside your tent. The Xtender 2 is the perfect shelter to take fishing, camping, hunting or touring for a no-fuss sleep in the great outdoors.
Hey there. Does this tent attach to either of the other two sides of the awning, not just the side opposite the car?
Lorin - Sydney (1 month ago)
G'day Lorin,
No, it doesn't - the Xtender attaches via sail track, with exists on the end of the awning along the aluminium extrusion. You could set the tent up next to the awning on any side, but it won't attach.

Inside back sloping wall heights1 answer
I am looking at getting the Darche double swag stretcher and am wondering how this will fit into the Extender tent ie will your head (or feet if you flip the bed orientation) rub up against the sloping back wall of this tent? Is it possible to get some dimensions from Darche showing the measurements in cross section view of the tent??
Hannah - Halls Creek, NSW (5 months ago)
G'day Hannah,
The slope on the Xtender tent is pretty similar to the RV range. We know at stretcher height you loose roughly 45cm of space due to the wall taper. As the Xtender thent has a floor space of 260cm, we estimate that you'd be able to fit a stretcher of up to 210/215cm long. The XL 1400 stretcher will hit the front and back walls, so we'd recommend running the bed perpendicular to the doorway.

Attachmebt and availability1 answer
Hi there, reading through the existing Q and As I had confëicting info. 1. Is the 2.5 Xtender still available? 2. Is it possible to be attacked to the Rhino Rack Batwing awning? 3. What attachmebt pieces would I need to purchase... if any?... Im located in Adelaide and likely going to visit the Keswick outlet during my lunchbreak tomorrow
Ben - Adelaide, SA(2 years ago)
G'day Ben,
Yes, the Xtender 2.5m awning is still available. There was a period of time where these were discontinued, but due to popular option Darche bought them back. We dont sell Rhino Rack gear, so arent able to advise on compatibility - but at a guess, no. These tents are designed to fit to pull outside awnings, and only attach via sail track which the Batwing does not appear to have on its edges.

Snow camping1 answer
As titled would you guys rate this tent for snow ?
Tai - Deer Park, VIC(3 years ago)
G'day Tai,
No, the Xtender 2.5 Awning Tent isn't rated for use in the snow.
Unfortunately, the tent for the 270 attaches inside and under the awning, and I want one that attaches to the side and outside of the awning, like this one.
Shannon - Mango Hill, QLD(3 years ago)
The extender is the best option for the 180 and 270 awnings, but it won't physically attach to the awning, unfortunately. You'd have to make do with it sitting up against the edge instead.

Hi, just wondering how waterproof the tent are?2 answers
Hi, just wondering how waterproof the tent is? Cheers Connie
Connie - Rivervale(4 years ago)
G'day Connie,
The fly has a 1500mm Waterhead rating which is on the lowish end for tents of this size but is still waterproof. You can read more about Waterhead ratings on our handy blog here.

I bought an Extender 2 going back a few years and we found it isn’t super waterproof. Heavy downpours in souther states did lead to dripping (not pouring) into the tent and due to the prevailing conditions condensation on walls.

I have an ARB 2.5 m awning will it be comparable 1 answer
I have a 2.5 ARB awning will it be compatible with the Xtender
Garry - Georgetown (4 years ago)
G'day Garry,
The Xtender 2.5 Awning Tent connects to the side of your awning using sail track so as long as you've got sail track on your ARB awning then we can't think of a reason why it won't fit.

Hi, would the zipper on the Xtender tent be compatible with a foxwing?1 answer
I know they are from different manufacturers but could you find out whether an Xtender tent would zip to a foxwing or is there an adaptor available.
It seems that the Xtender has more room than a Tagalong.
John - Grafton(6 years ago)
G'day John,
Unfortunately, I don't have any way of confirming this as we don't have a Foxwing set up at all, but given the Foxwing Tagalong and the Xtender are different widths I don't think it'd work sorry mate.

Darche 180 Awning Attachment1 answer
Hi, will the Darche Xtender tent attach to the Darche 180 Eclipse degree awning?
Jamie - Curl Curl(6 years ago)
G'day Jamie,
Unfortunately, the Darche Xtender 2.5 Awning Tent is only made to fit the basic Eclipse Awnings, it won't connect to the 180 or 270.

Erecting unattached to awning2 answers
Can the xpander be erected without attaching it to the awning
Rob - Broome(7 years ago)
G'day Rob,
I've just double checked this with one of my colleagues who knows a lot about the Darche Awning range. He told me that you shouldn't have any issues erecting the Darche Xtender 2.5 Awning Tent on its own, just make sure you peg it out well and have plenty of guy ropes.
Ben - Snowys(7 years ago)
Yes, that’s right - the awning does not need to be attached to the tent. There is an included awning that can be attached at your preference, or you can attach it to your car’s awning (shown in the video) also, only if you want to.

Darche 270 Awning Attachment1 answer
I am interested in the Darche 270 degree awning, will the Xtender attach to that awning?
Brady - Canberra(7 years ago)
G'day Brady,
I've given Darche a buzz to find this out for you and unfortunately, the Darche Xtender 2.5 Awning Tent won't connect to your Darche Eclipse 270 Awning, I'm sorry to say.

the zipper piece that attaches to our awning , does it come with the xtender2.5 awning tent1 answer
we have an awning 2.5 wide. we dont have the zip that attaches to awning.
Vic - Grafton(7 years ago)
G'day Vic,
The connection piece comes included with the Darche Xtender 2.5 Awning Tent. It attaches to your awning through a rope track that slots in at the front of your awning and the zip is then attached to this connection piece.

It says it attaches to the 2m wide awning but it is 2.5w in demensions is that right?1 answer
I was noticing on both Darche tents fits to 2m awning but one tent is 2.5w just wondering if that's a mistake?
Jan - 2484(8 years ago)
G'day Jan,
Firstly, thanks for pointing out that our website should state that the Darche Xtender 2.5 Awning Tent can fit a 2.5m awning. We'll update that now.
Secondly, it is still possible to attach the Darche Xtender 2.5 Awning Tent to a 2m awning. The tent attaches through a sleeve that runs along the track of the awning and zips onto the tent. From our understanding, if you have a 2m awning, there would be a small amount of overhang from the sleeve at either end. However, as the tent can stand alone, this doesn't affect the structure of the tent in any way as the ridgepole backs up against the awning.
Ideally, a 2.5m awning would be ideal with the Xtender 2.5 Awning Tent, likewise, a 2m awning would be ideal with a Xtender 2 Awning Tent, but if you already have a 2m awning, you'll be able to get around this with the Xtender 2.5 Awning Tent.
