The small cylinder is an emergency pole repair splint. If you're out hiking and accidentally break your pole, you can slide the cylinder over the pole and tape it in place, until you can repair/replace the pole.

I've just double checked the stock we have of the Tungsten 3P and there are no markings on the packaging to indicate the year, but I can confirm that the tents we have in stock are the same as the images on the website, and the specifications match the packaging.

You're very right in thinking the Marmot Tungsten 3P Hiking Tent is the older, 2017 model. The remaining stock we have is all on clearance in preparation for the release of the new model, however, we don't yet have an estimate from the supplier when the stock is due to arrive. Keep an eye on the website as we'll update it as soon as we can. The only colour available is Blaze/Steel.

There are a few differences that separate the Marmot Tungsten 3P Hiking Tent from the Black Wolf Grasshopper UL 3. The Marmot is made of polyester compared to the Black Wolf's Nylon. The Marmot is lighter, has more headroom and is slightly larger. The Black Wolf has a higher waterproof rating and both tents come with limited lifetime warranties.

I've just unpacked one of the tents we've got down on the shop floor to check this for you. I can confirm that the Marmot Tungsten 3P Hiking Tent does have tabs to connect a gear loft to.

I've just asked our hiking tent doyen, Brock & he showed me that the Marmot Tungsten 3P Hiking Tent is a season 3 tent because the inner is mostly made up of mesh. If it were solid then it might have been a season 4. I hope this clears things up for you.
