A compact and durable 3-person tent with a big dose of quality and topped with functionality, the Coleman Traveller 3P Dome Tent is the gold standard when it comes to camping.
This tent is wind tested to 100kph and has a fly with a 3000mm waterhead rating so it'll stand up to use in the field. It's also equipped with side windows and internally adjustable low-level vents to create sheltered comfort in any climate.
With front and rear entrances for easy access, a floored vestibule to help keep your tent clean, and a host of internal storage options, the Coleman Traveller 3P is a big tent trapped inside a compact exterior.
I own this tent - I'm wondering what the small removable square mesh ceiling is for at the apex of the inner tent. Is someone able to enlighten me on the purpose of it? Thanks for your help!
G'day Vanessa,
The removable square mesh on the inside of the ceiling is a gear hammock, you can pop odds and ends up there so they're safe and you know where to find them. Generally, I'd store my mattress and sleeping bag covers up there, along with my headtorch overnight.
is the rear entrance similar to front or is it an enclosed vestibule ?
G'day Suzanne,
You can get in/out of the rear door, however, there isn't a vestibule on the back, there is a D-shaped door.
Is it possible to add guylines on the window covers to allow these to be pegged out whilst still providing some rain cover? E.g. like the guylines on the Coleman Swagger windows
G'day Angela,
There aren't any guy ropes, or guy rope attachment points on the Traveller 3P windows. The tent does features floor vents for ventilation in wet weather though.
Hi Snowy, As title just wondering if you guys can give some advise choosing between the instant up gold series(However, it's out of stock now?) and this one? Couldn't find detailed comparison for them side by side.(Expected the instant up part). Thanks!
G'day Wilson,
The two tents are quite different and sit in two different categories. The Traveller 3P tent is a low height dome-style tent, with fibreglass poles that you connect and attach to the tent fabric. It has enough room for two, and packs down into a nice compact lightweight carry bag. The Instant Up Gold 4P is a much larger tent, with a steel instant style frame. There is enough room for 2-3 people, and enough height for most people to be able to stand up. The tent packs away with the tent remaining attached to the poles. The overall packaged size and weight is more than double that of the Traveller 3P.
?
G'day Joe,
Technically the Monstamat is a tiny bit too long to fit, however, we have sold this combo to a few people and they've made it work, the mattress will just be pushing up against the sides of the tent.
Protection from UV sun
The only tents we know of that come with a UPF rating are beach shelters and gazebo type shelters, Eddy, as they are designed for shelter during the day. normal tents are generally not tested for UPF protection as it is assumed they will be mainly used for shelter overnight when UV danger is obsolete.
The fabrics are often treated to resist UV damage, but this doesn't indicate UV protection. I'd say this would provide good protection given there are two layers of fabric for the light to get through, but I can't give you an exact rating, sorry.
Hi there, what size ground cover sheet would you recommend for this size tent? Have the Colman's 6p Dark Room instant up and love it but am looking to get something smaller for solo trips :)
G'day Rhys,
We'd generally recommend the Oztrail Ultramesh Tarp to go underneath any tent as it will allow water to pass through, but will protect the base of the tent. The smallest option is the 2.44 x 2.44m which will give you a little bit of extra width, but not too much. Depending on how you set it up it will come out under the front vestibule area a little, but not all the way. If you're wanting something a little larger that will encompass the entire base of the tent and vestibule then the 2.44 x 3.65m option will be your best option.
My teenage son has a Black Wolf Tanami Delta 3 which has been brilliant - we're looking for a similar tent however the Black Wolf Tanami is no longer available.. Would the Coleman Traveller 3P compare - or do you have other suggestions? Thanks very much
G'day Katrina,
Yes, the Coleman Traveller 3P has some similarities to the now discontinued Tanami 3 Tent. They are a fairly similar size and are of similar quality. Black Wolf now replaced their Tanami 3 with the Classic Dome 3 , which has a slightly lower waterproof rating but is of similar size and quality. Another great option to consider is the Zempire Neo 3, they're a little more compact and lighter than the Traveller 3P when packed with the same waterproof rating.
The Coleman 3P tent is an easy tent for one person to use.
G'day Philippa.
The Traveller 3P tent is a little low to use a stretcher in sorry, the curve of the tent will mean that it's nearly impossible to get up on the stretcher itself.
What ventilation panels have cover on the inner body? For example, the D shaped panels near the floor on both sides, the entrance inside the vestibule and the exit. I'm thinking of dusty, sandy conditions where sand tries to blow up and under the putter layer / cover.
G'day Darren,
The small D-shaped ventilation panels near the floor are a double layer, so mesh externally and solid nylon internally, which means you'll be able to keep dust and sand out.
Just wondering what I can add to this tent to further insulate the tent in winter (snow) camping.
G'day RK,
If you're wanting to camp in the snow then the Coleman Traveller 3P won't really cut the mustard. You could add a tarp underneath the tent to help but ultimately this is only a 3 season tent and doesn't have the waterproof rating or pole structure to withstand snowfall. You can check out our 4 season tent by selecting the 4 season tick box in the left-hand filter column.
I've got two Exped 10 LXW's coupler, was wondering if this tent would be suitable to fit these two ground mats in. Planning on taking my children out (most likely 1 at a time at this stage) and wanting to get something affordable yet accomodating. I have the 10p instant up and not wanting to take that out for a weekend with just the two of us. Thanks in advance.
G'day Brett,
I'd had a crack at fitting the 10 LXWs into the Traveller 3p we have up instore. They'll definately fit but you won't have room for much else!
would a Kings Adventure self-inflating queen mattress fit inside. From the dimensions it says it will being 1900x1500mm but one of the reviews said they had to put a single mattress in on the angle for it to fit....
G'day Johnnie,
You're right, based on the measurements it should fit fine. My concern would be, and the problem that the previous reviewer was having, is that as the tent walls slope inwards you might find your head and feet touch the sides. I'm pretty short so I'd be fine to wriggle into the middle of the mat but if you're taller this might not be ideal.
Could you get a Zempire Speedy Stretcher Bed in this tent ,if only 1 person was using it? Looking for a dome tent that will fit this stretcher. Many thanks
G'day Kate,
We gave this a go in the store and it will fit, but only just. Its a bit of a squeeze and it needs to be assembled inside the tent as you'll never get it through the door. A slightly bigger tent would probably be a better option.
Hi. I'm using this tent for beach camping. Which tent peg and size is suitable and how many should i buy?Ta
G'day Riz,
To replace the pegs you've got on your Coleman Traveller 3P Tent, I'd suggest looking at the Supa Peg Polycarbonate Sand Pegs. Grab one for each of the peg points on your tent so that you're totally covered. As for the size you'd need, it depends a little on the sand you're camping in and how much wind you're planning on camping in but I would suggest looking for at least 300mm long.
Hi. Can you pls recommend pegs for this tent for beach camping. The Poles Apart is unavailable at your site.
G'day Riz,
For camping at the beach, I'd recommend either using the Supa Peg Polycarbonate Sand Pegs or the Supa Peg Polypropylene Sand Pegs.
Okay so when I use a mattress of some sort in my tent I get moister build up or something like that and it causes water pooling under it is there way that I can prevent this or is it the simple fact that the fly has came into contact with the inner and the polyester from the inner has touched my air mattress letting moister collect on the underside
G'day Trent,
It sounds like maybe the water is coming through the floor. I would suggest maybe investing in a groundsheet to protect your tent from water seeping through the floor.
Would a king
G'day Trent,
Unfortunately, the King Goanna Stretcher is a little long for the Coleman Traveller 3P Tent. Dome style tents tend not to be compatible with stretchers due to the curved nature of the side walls.
Hi, great to have this QandA aspect on your website. I want to purchase additional sand-pegs to suit this tent when being used in sandy conditions. How many would be required for the: 1. tent? 2. fly? And would these be suitable: https://www.snowys.com.au/aluminium-tri-pegs-4pk Thank you, Jason.
G'day Jason,
To be safe, we'd recommend you grab 16 sand pegs to cover all your bases for the Coleman Traveller 3P Tent. As for which peg you need, you'd be fine with getting the Poles Apart 225mm Plastic Sand Tent Pegs.
Hello Snowys Does this tent have taped seams or will it be necessary to buy a seam sealant of some kind? If seal os needed, what product do you recommend? Thanks in advance. (Great website and advice btw.)
G'day Jim,
I've just checked with the info supplied by Coleman here, and it looks like the Traveller 3P has taped seams so you won't need to use any seam sealant. Thanks for the compliment Jim! That's great to hear that you're loving the site.
How does the fly connect to the tent? Erecting time for 1 person.Total amount of pegs for this tent.
