Offering increased levels of insulation over standard self-inflating mats the Exped Synmat 7LW sleeping mat has the same makeup as the ever popular Downmats, only microfibre fill replaces down in each chamber.
The Synmat 7LW comes at a friendlier price than the Downmat and has a lighter pack weight, with the only trade-off being lesser insulation values. An integrated hand pump prevents dizzy spells and the build-up of moisture inside the mat when inflated by the mouth. Exped is an innovative Swiss brand who stand by the quality of their products, which is why each Exped mat is individually tested for airtight integrity prior to shipment.
All mats are designed to withstand 5 times the pressure attained during normal inflation, and they back their products with a 5-year warranty so you can have complete confidence in the Exped Synmat 7LW.

Hi. There are two conflicting stories here in the comments as to whether this is noisy or not. I have an Exped mega mat which I love and wondered if this is the same material.

G'day Kyle,
The 'noisiness' of a mat is relative, and very much depends on the individual. It will also likely depend on how firmly the mat is inflated, and the kind of sleeping bag or bedding you are using, I personally don't believe this mat is noisy at all, & the review you've referred to is the only time I've heard this particular feedback. The fabric is the same classic EXPED fabric, but it does feel different because the mattress is full of air, not foam like the mega mats. This is a comfortable, great mattress option, and I don't believe you'll have issues with noise.

Can this Synmat be inflated by mouth should the integrated pump fail?1 answer
Exped Synmat 7LW Sleeping Mat
Errol Patsky - Hazelbrook(5 years ago)
G'day Errol,
We wouldn't suggest trying to blow the Synmat 7LW by mouth as the moisture in your breath could cause some issues down the track. We're yet to have someone report that the internal hand pump fails, they're a pretty straight forward system that isn't likely to fail. If needed you can inflate it with an airbed style pump.

Realistic life3 answers
Hi what's the realistic life expectancy for these mats before the internal glued channels give way? Ive seen many reviews (FB Hiking Aust NZ) where owners state the glued, (not welded) channels give way like the reviewer above has stated. I see they have a 5 year warranty but surely the reasonable life expectancy is longer . Its not a cheap mat! Are they best stored long term unrolled or rolled?

G'day Peter,
Thanks for getting in touch. It's hard to give an exact life expectancy on the Exped Synmat 7LW. I have a friend who has had one of these in the down version for approximately 7 years and it is still going well. I guess it will come down to how frequently the mat gets used, the conditions you're in and how well the mat is cared for. I would expect you should get a good life out of any mat that is well looked after.

Mine just blew out all of its cells last night. I checked and mine is now 10.5 years old so not to bad. Still upset though mainly due to the terrible sleep i had last night on a lumpy river bed lol. Only hear as i was considering buying a new one :)

Hi Peter, we've had the 7M for a few years, first my gorgeous wife bought me one, then a year or two later we got one for her as well (apparently women have wider hips that dig into the ground). We've used them perhaps most for general camping, with some hiking and ski touring. One mat failed just within warranty (5yrs) by blowing a baffle, the second has done similar after maybe 7 years...given we've been camping with kids in the same sleep space, left mats inflated in hot tents during the day in static camps in summer, possibly had kids jumping on them, and sometimes have supported multiple occupants in less-than-passive pursuits, I think they've held up well. I do wonder though if the dimpled design of e.g. Sea to Summit is more robust (and perhaps compare Exped warranty to others'), once a baffle 'goes' on these they're almost unuseable, with cold hard nights until you can replace them. We've never had an issue with puncture or valve.

Double up1 answer
Hi guys, do you have any experience with doubling up with your partner on the one mattress? Is there a weight limit not that we are big :) just short of space in the back of the truck
Glen Bower - KILLARNEY VALE(7 years ago)
G'day Glen,
There's not an official weight limit on the Exped Synmat 7LW Sleeping Mat. I'd think that weight wouldn't be an issue if you're sharing with your partner although width might be a bit of an issue for you.

Can the large bag pumps be used with this ?1 answer
Can the Sea to Summit or Exped bag pumps be used with this mat which has an inbuilt pump.
Peter - Dulwich(8 years ago)
G'day Peter,
You can't use the Sea to Summit pump sack with the Exped Synmat 7LW, nor can you use the Exped Pump. This mat has a pump inbuilt, which is just as effective as the separately sold Exped one if that helps.
