Hi, I do some backcountry hiking in NZ and Aus and looking into this. The package plans have 2 listed prices, one for AU and one for NZ. Do I need to have 2 separate subscriptions to use this across the two countries?
G'day Matt,
I dont believe so, the price is relevant to your country of residence.
eg. if you were traveling to the US, you don't pay US subscriber fees.
Hope that helps!
What happens if you exceed the quota for your monthly plan? I can't find this info on the provided website
G'day Jodie,
I've just spoken with our Spot contact, who has confirmed that, at the time of writing, additional messages are charged at USD 0.25c
Hi there, the website says Australia USD $15.13. I'm assuming that means it is in US dollars?
G'day Jodie,
Yep! USD is the acronym for US Dollars.
It will always be that value in USD which means that the actual AUD cost may change by a few dollars each month, depending on the current exchange rate.
Can you message from one spotx to another so you can have one at base camp and one with the party?
G'day Steve,
Yes you can message between two Spot X devices, they each get allocated a phone number, so you'll be able to add each other as contacts and message back and forth as required.
Is the fee for the plans in us dollars or Australian dollars
G'day Phil,
Yes there are fees associated with the Spot X 2-Way, you can see all of the plans available here on the Find Me Spot website, as long as you've set your country to Australia the prices displayed should be in $AU
are sent messages confirmed when successfully sent and received?
G'day David,
You won't see a sent/received option likely you'll see on most modern smartphones, but the unit will indicate if it hasn't connected to the satellite network so that you can re-position yourself if required to re-send a message.
Also, if the SOS function is activated is the emergency forwarded to local responders?
G'day David,
The number issued with your Spot X is an American number. The SOS function is activated via the GEOS Internation Emergency Response Coordination Centre, they'll communicate with the relevant emergency services / search and rescue in the country the beacon is activated, so if you're in Australia when activated, then it will be Aussie responders.
