The next generation of Speedcross is here, the Speedcross 5. The brainy designers at Salomon have once again lifted the bar, or shoes, to help look after your feet whilst you’re pounding the trails. Key fundamentals they’ve looked at and improved are grip, performance, fit and stability.
This runner features a Contagrip TA sole with fancy durable and adhesive chevron lugs – so you’ll be able to grip wet and muddy terrain without falling on your butt. It’s also got an OrthoLite sock liner, a deeper EVA heel cup for support and a moulded, high-rebound EVA midsole for lightweight stability and added cushioning. It’s almost like Salomon has customised this shoe to fit you perfectly.
The mudguard around the base of the shoe keeps them from getting dirty when you’re at full tilt, and the Quicklace system means you get the perfect fit every time.
With a pair of Salomon Speedcross 5, you can tackle soft or wet ground flat out without having to worry about slowing down.

Width of Speedcross 5 men’s regular vs wide fit1 answer
Hello. Would would you please advise how much wider the regular fit? If I order a half size larger would that be equivalent to the wider fit? There are no stock in the wider fit on the Snowys site. I have a pair of Sppedcross 5 wide in UK 11 and the width is ok but they are too long.
Patrick - Brisbane City, QLD (2 years ago)
Hi Patrick, a half a size bigger won't be the same as the wide fit. The wide versions are wider from the heel right through to the toe, so if your current ones fit nicely in terms of width, then you'd be best getting hte same width in a shorter length.
Alternatively, the best bet is to try and get to a store to try them on.

Rock scrambling1 answer
Is the speedcross 5 suitable for steep tracks including rocky terrain and twisted tree roots?
Rob - Bateau Bay, NSW(3 years ago)
G'day Rob,
The Speedcross 5 is a great shoe to provide tracking on steep muddy and rocky terrain. You should also get good tracking on tree roots, and variable terrain. They are one of the most popular models amongst trail runners worldwide, so we're sure you'll love them!

Suitable for wide feet?1 answer
I normally buy wide(r) fitting shoes - Merrell is a brand that works well for my flat wide feet. Is this model similar to a Merrell size for size in relation to width or is it a narrow shoe?
Ben - Melb(4 years ago)
G'day Ben,
In general, Salomon is a little narrower than Merrell. The Speedcross 5 does come in a Wide version, you can find it here. That might be a slightly better option for you if you generally need a wider fit.

Mens vs Womens Salomon Speedcross 51 answer
Hello, Over the weekend I've bought the Salomon Speecross 5 Womens from you and I love it. I'm now thinking about buying another pair (the Speedcross 5 Mens) as I like the colour and being at a cheaper rate I might want to use it for other sport. What are the differences between the Womens Speedcross 5 (US 8.5) vs the Mens Speedcross 5 (also in US 8.5). Will the fit & sizing be the same?
Colleen - sydney(4 years ago)
G'day Colleen,
In general men's shoes will be a tiny bit wider than women's shoes, so you might find that they're a little roomier from side to side. In terms of a direct size comparison, a Salomon women's US8.5, is equivalent to a Salomon men's US7.5.
