The RS-1 takes Oztent’s beloved 30-second frame and puts it into a roomy king single swag - so you can spend more time chilling out and less time setting up.
This strong aluminium frame is super easy to use, you just lift it up and your shelter will be set up in under 30 seconds. The RS-1 is made from ModCan material, which is CPAI-84 flame retardant, so it will give you some peace of mind when setting up near your campfire. This swag also has a PVC tub floor offering protection from the sodden ground while the No-See-Um mesh will keep out insects and allow ventilation.
The awning has a reflective underside, which means you can just flip it over the swag to use it as a fly or set the awning up for some extra shade depending on the weather. For comfort, this swag comes with an integrated removable mattress, and they’ve also thrown in guy ropes, pegs, two telescopic awning poles and a carry bag for easy transport and set up.
The roomy comfort, 30 second pitch time, and a versatile awning are what make the RS-1 Swag from Oztent an easy and luxurious choice for the adventurous weekend warrior.
Are the packing dimensions true to size? And would swapping the mattress to a self inflating mattress reduce the packing thickness? Is a mattress even needed if you get the stretcher?
G'day Mav,
Yes, the packed dimensions are true to size - check out our photo of Wes in the Snowys team holding this bag for a real-life gauge of size.
The mattress is removed from the RS-1 for pack-up anyway, so if you chose to keep that out of the bag you may reduce some of the bulk of the packed size, but the width and length will remain the same.
You don't absolutely have to use a mattress with a stretcher, but they can be valuable to add in a bit of insulation for cold nights.
Are the condensation issues resolved in the Series II? Thanks :)
G'day Jono,
There has never been condensation issues as such, more so that condensation is an unavoidable experience in certain weather conditions for any camping setup. Single-skinned shelters such as swags and canvas touring tents are particularly vulnerable, and when the space is smaller as with a swag, it can be even more challenging.
Condensation occurs when the inside temperature is quite different from the outside temperature, so double-layered shelters create a gap of air between the outer and the inner which sits as a middle ground, reducing the issue.
In a swag, whilst it may seem counter intuative, the best way to combat condensation is ventilation by having all the windows open.
In the case of the RS-1, in particular bad 'condensation' weather this will also mean have the doors pinned open.
Are you able to purchase the thicker rs1 v2 mattress separately if already have v1?
G'day Ash,
Not through use, but you may be able to grab one from Oztent directly.
Jump over to their contact page here.
Hi Snowys! Is there another fly you can buy and attach like the RV tents so that this could have both the awning and fly? Thanks
G'day Rebecca,
There isn't anything off the shelf sorry, although that is a great idea!
Most commonly people with swags who want a bit more shelter will opt for something like the Oztrail Hiker Fly, & set up like a tarp shelter or awning over the top of their swag.
I'm not sure if that's the idea you're going for, but may be worth a look - here.
Seems that Oztent has already released RS-2 swag, when will you have them in stock? I already got RS-1 thinking either upgrading the mattress or upgrading to RS-2.
G'day Chen,
The RS-1 is a king single swag, designed for one person. I personally would not share this swag with anyone, because i dont like to sleep cramped and move around alot in my sleep.
If you are not sure, I'd recommend looking at the sleeping area dimensions, and mark out a rectangle on the ground - masking tape inside or chalk of pavers outside works really well.
That will give you a real life tangible size of the space, and you can even lay down in the space with your child so see if its suitable.
I want an Adult and Child to share so would like good coverage of the floor area. Any self-inflating mattress with a 100-105cm width? Thanks.
G'day Chen,
The widest self-inflating mattress option we have that will fit is the Black Wolf Hexatherm XL Single 3d Diamond, which is 90cm wide.
Anything larger than that will be too wide for the the space, at 110/120cm
I want a waterproof bag for my RS-1, can you please try if RS-1 without mattress can fit in the bag?
G'day Chen,
The RS-1 swag packs quite wide due to limitations with the frame. It's not a good fit with the Pro Travel Bags.
If you are wanting a waterproof option for transport the easiest way it to wrap in up in a tarp with some straps if you are expecting rain.
Hi, the overall dimensions are listed as the same as the sleeping simensions, which cant be right. Can you confirm the overall size on the outside of the swag, and also the size of the mattress on the inside?
G'day Sam,
Yes, the mattress in the RS-1 Swag is the same size as listed under the sleeping dimensions. It is a little thicker than the mattress in the video on the page, but it covers the entire internal area of the swag.
Hi, is the bag the ra1 comes in waterproof
G'day Justin,
No, it's not. If you want to pop it on your roof racks & you're expecting rain, it'd be ideal to wrap in in a tarp.
Had RV3 plus, this accessory is the best, can I attach a rv fly to this swag II
G'day MJ,
I'm not 100% clear on your question sorry, but RV tent flys are not compatible with RS swags, and vice versa.
Hope that gives you the info you need.
Hi, With the new series 2 tent do you still need a self inflating mattress when paired with a stretcher or is the new mat now good enough?
G'day Wayne,
If you're pairing the RS-1 Series II with a stretcher, then the included mattress should do the trick. If you want ultimate luxury, or plan to sleep directly on the ground you may want something a little thicker.
Hi guys, I am reading a lot of feed back in regards to the amount of condensation build up inside the RS-1 Swag. I am really keen on buying on of these swags but i just want to pick your brain with how we can stop the condensation build up. Your assistance in this matter is appreciated.
G'day Mal,
You shouldn't have any issues with condensation if you use the fly as a fly instead of an awning, and you open the rear base window and front top windows to increase ventilation and airflow.
Check out our Podcast episode Dealing with Condensation for more helpful info!
Can you advise if this is a series 1 or 2. Can you advise the difference between the two.
G'day John,
We now carry the Gen II model, Oztent upgraded the mattress and made a few minor changes to the specifications. The video on the product page is of the Gen I version.
Hi, Can I know the length of the poles. If I put this swag onto the stretcher. What's the maximum height the awning can be?
G'day Shirley,
I've had a chat to Oztent and the poles extend to 1.7metres in length.
Gday Wondering if the rs1 and stretcher would fit in the Darche Nero 240 roof bag? Going off the dimensions it looks like it will, but not sure as the bag looks quiet round compared to how the swent packs up Cheers
G'day Ash,
The RS-1 packs up as a rectangular type shape. The Darche Nero 240 Gear Bag is a cylindrical shape so unfortunately, this bag won't work for this swag.
Is the carry/storage bag waterproof, or weather proof enough to be carried on the roof rack? Cheers
G'day Ash,
The carry bag is fairly weatherproof, however, prolonged exposure to wet weather will likely leave your swag a little damp.
hi is there any attachment for the awning/fly to join another awning or sailtrack?
G'day Mat,
The RS-1 isn't able to be attached to any other awning / fly / sailtrack unfortunately.
Just curious about hanging hooks or points for internal external hanging lights?
G'day Rob,
I've just had a squizz at the display model, and I couldn't find any hanging hooks for a lantern unfortunately. There is a gear pocket on one side that you could tuck a headlamp into for a bit of hands-free lighting though.
Hi Snowys I'm asking a similar question to Damien about matching an additional mattress to the RS1 (we just bought 4 of these kits today's from you online!). The Darche ATM1100 that was recommended to Damien.... we were interested in the similar, but less expensive Darche 1100 Wide SWAG mattress - it has the same width at 110cm but is a standard dense foam (not a self-inflatable). So our question is - would this also just snugly fit the Rs1 swag width of 105cm? And would the slightly less height of the Darche foam 1100 being 5 or 7 cm, (rather than the inflatable 10cm version) also aid it to snugly fit in as it wouldn't pop up as much? Or by chance has another one come on the market since last year that would fit the rs1? TIA
G'day Donna,
The RS-1 Swag is a little too narrow for an ATM 1100 mattress, and due to the density of the foam, we don't think it will easily mould into the size of the RS-1. We'd probably recommend going for a 90cm wide self-inflating mat, or getting some custom foam cut somewhere like Clarke Rubber.
I had saved the Burke & Wills double Grampian swag to my wish list but now wondering if the RV 1 will fit me and my 2 border collies.
G'day Rachelle,
The RS-1 Swag sounds like a good contender. The flexibility of the front mini awning/fly might help provide a bit of extra space for the dogs.
How hot is the swag only having ventilation on the two sides. I ask because I’m a hot sleeper especially in summer
G'day Steve,
There is a fair amount of in the RS-1 Swag. There are ventilation windows at the rear and in the top of the door. Or you can also open up the front doors and roll back the canvas for extra ventilation.
I'm looking to the RS1. Would i be able to put this on top of the Darche xl100 strecher?
G'day James,
The RS-1 Swag is a tiny bit wider and longer than the XL100 stretcher, so while it is possible, it's not an exact fit. Good news though, Oztent do make the RS-1S Stretcher that is a perfect fit, and has some handy attachment points for the RS-1 Swag itself.
Which ground sheet do you recommend with this swag, ideally I would like it to cover the ground under the awning.
G'day Simmon,
It will be alittle on the big side but I reckon the RV1 Mesh Floor Saver would be a great option, otherwise, the 8 x 8 Oztrail Ultramash Tarp would also do the trick!
Are there plans to introduce a new model with end windows to increase ventilation?
G'day Stephen,
At this point in time, we're not aware of any changes planned for the RS-1 Swag. There are windows for ventilation in the top of the front doors, the rear windows, and the front awning flips back to act as a flysheet, so there is a fair bit of ventilation in the RS-1 Swag as it is.
I saw elsewhere a $50 cash back for spending this amount on oztent products. Are Snowys part of this?
Would the Darche ATM 1100 mattress fit in this? Or any other suggestions? I want an Adult and Child to share so would like good coverage of the floor area. Thanks.
G'day Damien,
The Darche ATM 1100 is a tiny bit wider than the RS-1 Swag itself, but there will be just enough flexibility in the bucket floor to fit the mat. Most of our other mats are only about 80cm wide, so probably won't be quite wide enough, so this will likely be the best option.
Hi Guys, Would this fit a stretcher inside?
G'day Karl,
You won't easily fit yourself and a stretcher in an RS-1. It's really just designed as a swag.
Whic fabric for tents or swags best for stability and weatherproofing. Many thanks in anticipation.
G'day Sue,
The Oztent RS-1 uses a fabric Oztent call ModCan which is a 210D Ripstop Polyester. It differs from the canvas many manufacturers use in that it relies on a polyurethane coating on the inside of the fabric for waterproofing. So in the long, long term, the waterproof coating may not stay as waterproof as canvas but the upside is, it's a much lighter material making transporting and pitching easier. Generally, a synthetic material like this will be adequate for the vast majority of uses but those looking at extended, continuous use such as a big trip around the whole country might find canvas is a more durable option. Both materials should be adequately waterproof but stability is probably more influenced by the frame design and the ability to guy the tent or
What’s the quality of the foam mattress like in the swag?
G'day Ash,
Given that the mattress is only 25mm thick, the verdict amongst the staff here is if you want a really good nights
**Update** the mattress has now increased to 4cm in thickness which will provide more comfort than the previous 2.5cm, but we still suggest that if you were wanting a really good nights sleep, then a self-inflating mattress is the way to go!
Hi there, I was just wondering how the Oztent RS-1 would go sitting on top of your largest camp stretcher - for example, the Outdoor Connection Sundowner Titan Stretcher? Cheers
G'day Andrew,
You shouldn't have too many issues at all using the Oztent RS-1 Swag on top of a stretcher like the Sundowner Titan. Just be wary of making sure that you rope your swag out well.
G'day Andrew,
We've just gone back to the drawing board to check this out and from trying it in the shop it might not be ideal as there could be a risk of the framework bending with the sag in the stretcher material.
just want to know what the supplied foam mattress is like in the oztwnt rs1 swag. it seems to be very thin at 25mm most are far thicker like your opinion thanks
G'day Brook,
To be totally honest with you, we're not too sure about the quality of the mattress in the Oztent RS-1 Swag yet, we're yet to have our first delivery come in. It might be worth noting though that the mattress is removable, so you can always swap it out if you'd like. We're looking at doing a review of them when they come into stock though!
Hi there do you need one of the Oztent ground sheets to put under the swag? And will the exped megamat fit inside? Thanks
G'day Karl,
While a groundsheet isn't required, they are always beneficial to protect against moisture and damage.
Yes - the Exped Megamat 10LXW will fit with no worries.
Can it be folded back up the sleeping in it
G'day Steven,
That's the only downside that we have identified so far with the Oztent RS-1 in that sleeping gear will need to be removed before packing it down.
