Hi Snowy’s, when I registered my new PLB with www.amsa.gov.au/beacons, they requested the retailers details They requested the following: Name: Address: Town/Suburb: State: Post Code: Country Code: Australia Work Phone No: Email: If they could be provided in a handout to be given with each physical order in a retail store and as an email as part of an online order if this product comes up that would be great, Thanks
G'day James,
Regardless of which Snowys location you purchased your PLB from, you can find all this information in the 'contact' & 'visit us' sections of the Menu on our website.
Hope that helps.
How often does this ping your location?
G'day Tracey,
The ACR 400 PLB will GPS located and transmit every 30min in the first 6 hours once activated.
For more information check out page 11 of the operating manual, which you can view as a PDF on our product page.
Is the compatible 406LINK Beacon Testing/Messaging Service that works with this PLB available in Australia?
G'day Thomas,
No, the 406Link subscription is only available to North and South American customers.
At this stage we are unaware of a timeframe for this service to be extended.
Does this unit meet AS 4280.2.2003
G'day Garry,
Yes, according to AMSA (Australian Mariane Safety Authority) all PLB sold within Australia are approved by this standard.
It's only Emergency Beacons that are purchased outside of Australia that aren't.
Hope this information helps!
Hi there, is there any difference in terms of features to the Ocean Signal RescueMe PLB1? Also, if travelling with my partner, is once PLB sufficient or would authorities expect only one person when the distress signal is received? Cheers, Jan
G'day Jan,
The ResQLink 400 PLB and the Ocean Signal RescueMe units both work in the exact same way and send the same type of signal. The only differences are the exterior casin of the unit, the waterproof rating, and battery life. Generally you'll only need to carry one unit per group, but we'd recommend registering your trip intentions on the AMSA website, you can do this by logging into the same site you use to register your beacon. That way the relevant authorities will know how many people are in the group, so can respond accordingly if needed.
I was wondering if this version comes with a pouch like the older ACR ones and the one with the display.
G'day Laura,
The ResQLink 400 PLB doesn't come with a pouch, but it is supplied with a belt clip and an oral inflation tube clip. Have a look in the downloadable product manual for what these clips look like and their purposes.
The batteries last for five years. Are they readily replaced in Australia?
G'day Andrew,
Yes, there are a number of places in Australia that you can get your ACR battery replaced. Last time we checked, the replacement costs were around $180-$200.
Hi guys, I am looking at purchasing the ACR ResQLink 400 but I want to ensure that it is compatible in Europe as well as Australia and the US. Can you please confirm if it is or isn't? Thanks very much,
G'day James,
Yes the ACR ResQLink 400 PLB is able to be used worldwide. You just need to make sure you register it with AMSA here. The main thing to know is that you register it with the Australian authorities, and then if you need to activate it while travelling the signal is sent to the relevant authorities in your country of travel who liaise with the Australian authorities to make sure you get out of trouble safely. It's also worth having a look at the AMSA site, and reading the product user manual to make sure it will suit your needs.
I note the staff tip says the ResQlink has approval in multiple countries. Is that also the case for the KTI? If that is not the case, are there any other differences in the two PLBs?
G'day Reginald,
The reference to approval in other countries is to do with residential relocation. If you ever intend to reside in another country other than Australia the ResQLink will transition, however, the KTI would need to be re-coded and battery replacements can only be done within Australia.
The KTI and other PLBs can be used worldwide for your adventures, (save a small few locations like North Korea for example), and both the KTI and ResQLink use the COSPAS/SARSAT program.
The only other differences is the warranty period - KTI have 10 years & the battery replacement interval - KTI is 10 years.
