For a hassle-free outdoor Aussie adventure, pick up an Aussie designed swag like the Redgum from Burke & Wills. The Redgum is the signature swag from Burke & Wills, and it’s easy to see why as it’s got all the features you’d need for all weather conditions. If you usually find single swags too petite for your liking – the XL size will give you extra sleeping space without taking up too much room in the back of your car.
The rot and waterproof canvas
All you need is your favourite sleeping bag, as the Redgum comes with a 75mm foam mattress
How many poles are provided for the RedgumXL, the picture shown looks to have three but can only see two? And what mattress would be recommended to maximise the 110cm width, preferably self inflatable?
G'day Joe,
There is indeed 3 poles, the middle one running through an internal sleeve, so it won't be visible from the outside.
The best self-inflating mat option would be the Darche All Terrain Mat 1100.
options for carry bag XLsingle 1100 wide not 900
G'day Greg,
We don't have any Burke & Wills branded swag bags, but we do have a few swag bags that come in an 1100 wide model. The Darche Outbound 1100 Swag Bag, and 23Zero 1100 Swag Bag will both suit the Redgum XL Swag.
Interested in purchasing today. Can I contact a phone number to chat to someone. Cheers
G'day Ben,
We currently have the Redgum in 3 different sizes, the King Single, X Large and Double. If you want to chat with someone, just give us a buzz on 1300 914 007 and we can talk through the options with you.
Yes wearing a swag out means it’s a good swag As I mentioned my old Saul swags basically did thousands of nights out from snow to tropical downpour 1/2 metre one weekend never failed I did own a couple of cheap dome swags that only lasted months With the Burke and Wills Redgum are the poles easy to find if need replacement, I had several broken poles on the cheap dome swags I had , I ended up frustrated and threw the swags in the bin Price is not a problem Would you people recommend the Burke and Wills over other brands
G'day Wayne,
Sounds like your swags get to live a great life! You can easily obtain replacement poles direct from Burke & Wills, at outfitters.com.au. Hope that helps!
I see some retail stores advertise 7cm mattress for this you people have 6cm can you clarify Also they give a lifetime guarantee what is their lifetime??? Some companies their lifetime warranty is 5 years but don’t publish it that way I have a Saul swag my second in 40years but due to 2 total knee replacements I require the weight of the swag to be off my legs Is the RedGum up to a lot of use in conditions from snow to desert to tropics I don’t really want anything that’s made in China ( Chinese are not good on quality) I have found this of Chinese products in many Asian countries where I have lived and worked for Governments o/s
G'day Wayne,
Burke & Wills have provided the information for this mattress, they specify "60mm high density flat foam mattress with removable cotton cover". The Lifetime Burke & Wills Product guarantee is just that, genuine lifetime. There is no pre-determined amount of time considered 'lifetime', as the way people use and care for their swags will be different. Bare in mind though that this covers manufacturing fault only, and not wear and tear. Having said that, I've just been chatting to one of Sowys Warranty team, and theyve never seen a Burke & Wills come back to us for fault!
Any tips on the easiest way to get middle pole in , can be a bit hard to get zip past . Great swag by the way.
G'day Phil,
Sometimes the canvas on the Burke & Wills Redgum X Large Swag is quite tight to make sure you stay dry. If you haven't yet I would suggest seasoning your swag by setting it up, removing the mattress, hosing it down well and letting it dry in a warm shady spot. This will help the canvas to seal the stitch holes and provide it with some malleability around the poles.
Are these manufactured in Australia?
G'day Steve,
Around 6 months ago, Burke and Wills relocated their manufacturing off-shore to remain competitive.
In saying this, we are yet to see any change in quality and their products are still well sought after.
The chinese made swags have lesser quality screens than the previously Australian made swags burke and wills produced (small bugs occasionally enter though its the longevity of the screens i would question now) Waterproofing and canvas quality is still second to none in my experience ( i own three Aus made BW swags and one “new” Chinese manufactured BW swag among others) For what its worth the best ive owned is the Aus made burke and wills simpson xl.
No!! They used to be fully Australian made. Now they moved manufacturing to China and they are shit! Zips break and poles break they are not worth the money at all. So so sad to see them go this way. People I know have had theirs for 15 years still perfect cause they the Aussie made ones
Whilst we don't have any recent product reviews, they still make an incredibly popular swag. I've touched base with our Warranty Team & we've had hardly any issues come through. Safe to say Burke & Wills still stand behind their product, and provide excellent after-sales support across the board. If you do run into trouble, you'll be well looked after.
