If used on the Low setting, would it cast a wide beam over (say) a camp-site?

The Rebel Tasklight will give you 60 lumens and a 28m beam distance on low, so yes, you'll get a fairly wide beam over your campsite.

G'day John,
You can clip this light to a hat brim, however, depending on the type of brim you might find the weight pulls the brim down. A cap style brim should be fine, but a lighter weight nylon style hat, you might find doesn't handle the weight too well.
