Whether you’re touring on the bike or heading up the river for an overnighter, the Ranger Solo + Swag from Darche is the conveniently compact and lightweight shelter.
Made from a 12oz proofed polycotton ripstop canvas with a full-length 600gsm welded PVC bucket floor and zip closure storm cover– you’ll be protected from the elements while you sleep in this swag. Stash your helmet, boots, or other gear in the unique Hutch™ compartment out of the weather and access it from inside your swag through the removable mesh panel. It’s simple to set up using the anodised 7001 aluminium alloy 9.5mm head and foot poles, and you can zip open the entry to expose the superfine insect mesh which provides ventilation and bug protection.
You’ll sleep soundly on the 50mm high-density foam mattress, and you can store this swag in the heavy-duty PVC weatherproof ‘dry’ roll bag and strap it to your pannier for transport. Staff tip:It's best practise to season your swag a few times, even if it comes seam sealed, pre−seasoned, or waterproofed. For more info, check out our blog post below.
Hello. I would like to ask about the points made in one of the reviews. Is the water proofing and seal as well as ventilation as bad as the reviewer says? Thanks
Maz - Sydney, NSW (7 months ago)
G'day Maz,
Ventilation is abit tricky on this swag if its raining due to the top entry doorway. You could have the storage hutch door open with the mesh end and this could offset that alitte, otherwise if its not raining you could just have the canvas top door rolled back.
In terms of waterproofing, this swag is seam sealed, but being a canvas product we also recommend that you season it well before using in wet weather. Check out our blog post on seasoning your swag if you need more info!

Weight with out mattress1 answer
G'day, what is the weight of the swag and poles without the included foam mattress? Thanks!
Mick - Glenroy, VIC(7 months ago)
G'day Mick,
We've not actually weighed it in real life, but based on mattresses of similar size and thickness we'd say you'd save about 1kg of weight by taking it out.

Spreader pole compatibility 1 answer
Can this swag be used with a spreader pole to make it free standing?
Denis - Belconnen, ACT (2 years ago)
G'day Denis,
This swag doesnt have the corresponding eyelets for use with a spreader pole. In theory, you could retrofit eyelets to the central pole tab on either end, however, given that this is a top entry swag I feel like a ridge pole would negatively impact access. Doesn't mean it's impossible though! Just an important consideration.

Mattress shape1 answer
Hi is the mattress 45cm wide the whole length? If so could foam be cut to make a mattress the same coffin shape as the swag?
Jo - Myrtle Bank, SA(4 years ago)
G'day Jo,
We don't currently have a display model to double check this, but the sleeping area in the swag is quite rectangular, with the head end having a triangular shaped hutch area for gear storage. The supplied mattress is 45cm wide, so that the overall roll is 50cm long, and will fit on a motorbike. If you wanted to use it for other types of travel you could get some foam and have it custom cut to fit the full width of the swag, however, it will roll a little longer.

Self inflating mattress to suit?1 answer
Are there any self inflating mattresses that would suit the Ranger solo (replace the supplied one)
Max - Launceston(4 years ago)
G'day Max,
It's a bit of an odd size due to its shape and as such we don't have any mattress that will fit the 45cm width. Most of our Self Inflating air mattresses in our hiking range are above 50cm in width. It might be worth asking Clarke Rubber if they have any similar type foam that could be cut to size.
