How many hours will you get charging a phone or iPad from full charge?
Nadia - Adelaide, SA(3 years ago)
G'day Nadia,
This device is primarily designed as a Jumpstarter, to be able to give short bursts of super high current to get a car started. If using to charge devices via the USB output, such as mobile phone or ipad, you'll have around 13Ah. most mobile phone batteries these days are 4Ah, so you'll probably get 3 full charges on a phone from this device. If you dont need the jump starter function, you'd be better off buying a standard 15-20,000mAh powerbank like the Biolite Charge 80 which will charge your phone 4-5 times.

Laptop connectors1 answer
What size is the plug that goes in to each of the laptop adapters? I need an adapter that is not in this kit (slim tip for Lenovo) but need to know the size of plug on the supplied laptop cable. If I know I can source correct tip, I can then purchase. Thanks in advance. Melissa
Melissa - Jan Juc, VIC(3 years ago)
G'day Melissa,
I've touched base with Dometic on this one who has advised that its a just a universal laptop power connection. The physical pin is 5mm in diammeter.

output power1 answer
Hi I bought this unit to power a small fish finder in my tinny. Have used the output socket set to 12v to power unit. It works for a min or 2 then the charger auto shuts down. The display does not show any power going out when unit is on. Why will the charger not supply power continuously? Thanks
Graeme - Woodgate, QLD(3 years ago)
G'day Graeme,
This is a Portable Jump Starter, not a portable power pack. It is designed to be used to provide a short burst of high current to jump-start a flat car battery, or to provide a quick charge option for laptops or phones. It is not designed to be used as a portable power pack to provide continuous power to run an appliance, it will not provide ongoing stable lower Amp output over a number of hours. Its abit hard to give further information without knowing exactly what your fish finders power requirements are, but you'll be needing a different set up or power source than this sorry.

Recharge from a solar panel1 answer
Can this unit also be charged from a solar panel?
Lucy - Launceston, TAS(4 years ago)
G'day Lucy,
No, the Dometic Portable Jump Starter 900A is only able to be charged from a 240V wall socket or a 12v source like your vehicle or a portable power pack.

Laptop connectors1 answer
What types of laptop connectors are included? Would I be able to charge a Microsoft Surface and a MacBook?
Adee - North Sydney, NSW(4 years ago)
G'day Adee,
The only information we've got from Dometic is that the unit comes with 8 different laptop connectors/charging adapters ( fits most laptop charging ports). They all appear to fit the pin-style laptop chargers (have a squizz at the image with the alligator clips and pins), so I don't think you'll be able to charge a Microsoft Surface or Macbook with this unit.

Recharge from the Domestic PLB1 answer
Hi Team, can you advise if this will recharge from the Dometic PLB? And if so any idea on how long the charge time would take?
Lee - Leichhardt NSW (4 years ago)
G'day Lee,
Yes, the Portable Jump Starter is supplied with a 12V car cigarette plug lead that could be plugged into the PLB40. It would take about 5 hours to charge via the PLB unit.

Can I select 6volt to jump a fj Holden?1 answer
I have a car that needs a bit of assistance when hot
Mac - Deans Marsh (4 years ago)
G'day Mac,
The Portable Jump Starter has been designed to jump-start 12V batteries, so I don't think it will be suitable to jump-start a 6V battery.

Chargers Battery Life1 answer
If you use it only to jump start , how long will it’s battery last while sitting in the glovebox waiting to be used?
Russell - Carlisle WA(4 years ago)
G'day Russell,
Dometic doesn't specify how long the Lithium Battery will last charged up, however most Lithium Polymer batteries will need to be recharged every couple of months. Given that the unit needs to be at least 50% charged to jump start, we'd recommend checking the battery percentage at least once a month and topping up as needed.
