Most people haven't had any issues with this. Those few that have experienced the silicone taste/smell recommended boiling clean water with it a few times to eliminate the taste and smell.

The only information provided by the manufacturer is 900-1100W, so that's all we have to go off.
It looks like your 1500W inverter will do the trick.

Plastic water storage or water containers of any variety usually will have a taste to them for the first little while.
That's just part and parcel of a plastic product, unfortunately.
Rest assured it will go away with time, but to help that process along try cleaning with bicarb soda and lemon juice, it usually works a treat!

Great question, but the straight answer is no. The 900 - 1100w the kettle draws will most likely keep tripping or cutting out the 1000w inverter.

The Popup Billy 240V Kettle will automatically turn off once it boils.

I've just measured this for you and the cord for the Billy 240V Kettle is 78cm long including the plug.

Theoretically, you can run the Billy 240V through a 12V inverter, however, the inverter will need to be able to handle 1100 watts. Generally, an inverter that can handle this would be approximately $400-$500.  If you're after a 12V kettle we do sell the Dometic Perfect Kitchen 12V kettle.

The food grade silicon in the pop-up kettles is a totally non-toxic material that won't leach into the water in the kettle at all. It'll handle the temperatures just fine. I have silicon baking trays at home that we use in our oven at well over 200 degrees with no problems at all.

I've just double checked this for you and can confirm that the Popup Billy 240V Kettle does have a stainless steel base inside, hiding the element beneath it.

I've just grabbed our display model. filled it with water and plugged it into the plug in our staff kitchen. It took 4:44 to boil from tap water temperature. It's a pretty warm day in Adelaide today, so in colder temperatures, it might take a little longer, conversely, in warmer weather it might boil a little quicker.

You may need to check the voltage of the country/countries that you are planning on visiting, and that you've got the appropriate adaptor - but aside from that you should be good to go!
