If you’re looking for a way to directly charge your handheld USB devices – then look no further than the Nomad 7 Plus from Goal Zero.
The lighter and slightly up-specced version of the Nomad 7, the Nomad 7 Plus has a few extra features. The detachable kickstand makes it easy to get the exact angle you’ll need to catch the sun’s rays and will shade your devices as they charge. The LED indicator will let you know the strength of the solar conditions, so you’ll know to adjust it to get the maximum amount of sun possible.
The Nomad Plus 7 has an auto restart function that can tell the difference between a fully charged device, and one that has disconnected due to a shadow or lack of sunlight – so it will automatically reconnect it for you if need be. This solar panel will charge a smartphone in 2.5-5 hours, a GPS in 2.5-5 hours and a Goal Zero Guide 1 Plus in 2.5-5 hours, and a Goal Zero Switch 8 in 2-4 hours.
Perfect for outdoor adventures when you’re off the grid, the Nomad 7 Plus from Goal Zero is a simple and efficient solar energy solution to power your small devices.
Would be greatly convenience if it can withstands raining.
G'day Kevin,
I've just checked the FAQs that Goal Zero provides, and this is their answer: it’s weatherproof. We’ve gone to great lengths to ruggedize the Nomad 7 Plus; including beefing up the manufacturing process with advanced lamination techniques so it’ll slough off rain and snow. However, take care to keep the Junction Box dry and if it does get wet, allow it to completely dry before trying to charge.
Hi Snowys, is this the v2 version of the Nomad 7? Thanks.
G'day Dan,
We've got the most recent version available in Australia. As far as we understand what is referred to as V1 was the Nomad 7, and V2 the Nomad 7 Plus.
Is this capable of charging a small waeco camping fridge?
G'day Emma.
The Nomad 7 Plus is going to be a bit too small to power a fridge. You'll need a solar panel of at least 100W, and a battery to charge up with the solar panels. Have a look at this blog which explains a little bit about what you might need.
none
G'day George,
This solar panel will charge a device directly from the sun, but it doesn't have a battery on board to store energy. You will need to pair it with a separate power bank which after you charge it with the solar panel, can then be used to charge devices such as your phone. How many you charges you get will depend on the size of the power bank's battery, as well as your phone's battery. You can check out our range of power banks here. I hope this helps, George!
I have the original Nomad 7. Can I link the new with the old to get a 14w system?
G'day Paul,
Unfortunately, there's no straightforward way of connecting the units. There's only one USB connection point and can't see how you could make it work, to be honest. You'd be best to call Goal Zero on 02 9679 8644. Hopefully, they'll be able to offer advice.
My husband will be on a photography safari in Papua and will be off grid for a week or more would this be suitable for his needs
G'day Colleen,
Great question, the Nomad 7 Plus Solar Panel may or may not charge your husbands camera depending on the type of camera and what type of batteries it has. The Nomad 7 Plus has a USB output so most people will charge a battery pack and then the camera depending on whether the camera can be charged via USB, or has an internal battery that needs to be charged using a camera battery charged.
Hi, being new to solar equipment, I was just wondering can I directly charge a mobile phone from this or would I need more things to go along with it to make it work? Sorry for the hassle, but thanks in advance ðŸ‘
G'day Matt,
Yes mate, you sure can charge a mobile phone with the Nomad 7 Plus Solar Panel. You just need to have the charging cable that came with your phone and ensure it has the USB at one end with the other end going into your phone. Hope that makes sense :)
Hi, thinking about taking this panel and the Flip 20 on a 5 night hike for 2 people; what do you think?
G'day Tessa,
You'll be on to a winner here. 5 hours of full sun will fully charge the Flip 20 when using the Goal Zero Nomad 7 Plus Solar Panel. Once fully charged, the Flip 20 will charge both your phones. This should allow you to charge your phones every day.
The Nomad 7 specifies that it has toggles to attach it to a pack and use on the go. Just wondering if this is also the case for the 7 plus as it does not mention it in the description?
G'day Amanda,
The Goal Zero Nomad 7 Plus Solar Panel doesn't have the toggles like the Nomad 7 does, it does have holes in the corners that you can use toggles, carabiners or other ties to hold the panel in place.
Hi, Just wondering when you expect stock of the Nomad 7plus?
G'day Wes,
I've just spoken with Goal Zero and we're expecting to receive more Goal Zero Nomad 7 Plus stock either Friday next week or the end of the following week (once the Christmas Holidays have passed). Unfortunately, at this time of year, there are a lot of variables with delivery times and I can't give you much more of a clearer idea than that.
Solar panel and energy storage technology are rapidly changing technology in 2017, every 12 months more efficient and more economical versions are designed and manufactured. Which version of Goal Zero Nomad 7 Plus solar Panel do you have in stock if I placed an online order now in 30 Nov 2017 ?
G'day William,
The Goal Zero Nomad 7 Plus model currently listed on the website in the current model and is what you'll receive if ordered today.
I personally have the solar panel myself and use it for bushwalking trips and find it to be a fantastic piece of kit.
