The Nomad 1P from OZtrail is a light and breezy hiking tent for a fuss-free weekend adventure. Designed to be minimal so you can carry less, the Nomad 1P has shorter section fibreglass poles to make packing and transporting this tent super easy.

Featuring a No-See-Um mesh for plenty of airflow inside your space, and to keep insects out of your shelter no matter how small they are. The polyester fly has a UVTex coating and seam sealing which will protect it from UV rays and create a weather-resistant shelter.

The generous size door prevents tripping, while the internal storage pocket allows you to keep your keys or phone out of the way of the tent floor. On your next overnighter or weekend hiking trip, the Nomad 1P from OZtrail is a lightweight and uncomplicated shelter option.

Nomad or Coleman hiker? 1 answer

Hi guys, this one has great reviews, but doesn’t look like it would withstand a strong wind. How would you weight up between Coleman and this one? (For overnight hiking on mountain ranges etc).

G'day Karina,

The Nomad 1 is a fairly basic entry-level hiking tent, the design style will generally mean that you have to be specific about setting up the tent so that large flat sides are bearing the brunt of the wind, or if they are, you'll want to make sure your pegs are well anchored. The Coleman Ridgeline 2P is also an entry-level tent, although it has a slightly lower profile, and a curvier design so will most likely be a slightly better option in windy conditions.

You could use a Zempire Mono Footprint under the Nomad 1, it won't be an exact fit, however, it's the closest fit we've currently got.

Does the tent stand up without the pegs?1 answer

If I were to camp on hard rocky ground where I couldn't put pegs in, would the tent still stand?

The Nomad 1 Hike Tent isn't a free-standing tent so you would need to have at least 8-10 peg points available to keep the tent secured upright. If you give us a buzz or send us an email we'll happily try and help suggest some suitable options for you.

There haven't been any formal Waterhead rating tests conducted on the Oztrail Nomad 1 Hike Tent. So, unfortunately, we don't have any exact measurements on it for you, we can only pass on what Oztrail claim in regards to waterproofing of the tent.

When the fly door is open, will rain get into the tent?1 answer

Looking at the photo, it looks like you can't enter the tent when it's raining without exposing the inside floor of the tent to the rain. Is that correct?

Yes rain may get into the Oztrail Nomad 1 Hike Tent if you open the fly when there is a lot of rain. Best option would be to use the zipper at one end and be super swift if the weather is bad.

You certainly can use the Oztrail Nomad 1 Hike Tent without the fly, it'll stand up just fine. As for ventilation, there are some vents on the back of the tent to allow for some cross ventilation but it doesn't open right up, no.
