Hi Snowys, how will this tent handle storage in a humid environment? I moved to Brisbane from Canberra some years ago and I have had to throw a couple of lightweight tents out, including a MST fury because the fly became sticky and unuseable. Just getting back into overnight hiking again and I’d like to make sure I buy right. Thanks

G'day Matt,
Sorry to hear you've had some trouble with your previous tents in Brisbane. In general, lighter weight tent flys can become sticky/tacky in humid climates due to the higher moisture content in the air. We'd recommend storing all lightweight tents inside your house, with the fly loosely stuffed in a stuff sack and popping a few of those small moisture packets you get in new clothes/shoes in the bottom of the stuff sack to help reduce moisture.
The following information is from MSR in regard to exposure and storage that might also be helpful to know.
"Although we use the best polyurethane waterproofing available, prolonged exposure to moisture causes hydrolysis which, in turn, causes the waterproof layer to break down, becoming soft, sticky and no longer waterproof. For long-term storage, keep your tent in a dry and cool area, out of direct sunlight. Store it outside of its stuff sack, as you would a sleeping bag, in a breathable, oversized cotton or mesh duffel for protection. On the cheap, an old pillowcase is ideal."

Is this a free standing tent, or would I need to buy guy ropes1 answer
Question relates to MSR Mutha Hubba™ NX 3P Tent
Chris - High Wycombe, WA(4 years ago)
G'day Chris,
Yes, the MSR Mutha Hubba NX 3P is a free-standing tent, which means the tent structure does not have to be fully pegged out in order to be put up. This is only really required in situations where you cannot physically get pegs into the ground due to conditions of the environment where you are setting up camp. It is strongly recommended that you set your tent up fully, including all pegs and guy ropes at all other times. Guy ropes are included with this tent.
