Engel at an amazingly affordable price, the Engel Eclipse 38L Portable Fridge Freezer features the ever-reliable Sawafuji Swing Motor in a lightweight polypropylene cabinet, a great option for boats and locations where moisture is a problem.
Backed by Engel’s 50-year history, the Eclipse is a simplified version of the popular Engel Portable Fridge Freezer series, with basic temperature selection through a single dial and operation from both 240V AC and 12 or 24V DC power sources.
Removable handles, reversible lid and soft bumpers on the corners, the Engel Eclipse is still made tough and is an ideal choice for occasional users that still want to invest their hard-earned dollars on a reputable brand.
Hi What is the difference between these two fridges. I can see one is steel and one is plastic. And one is around$400 less then the other. Im going to use it for drinks in the back of my Prado as I have already an Engel 60 combo in the camper. Any recommendations. Thank you
G'day Geoff,
You're pretty much spot on there, but one other difference between the MR40F Eclipse and the 40L Engel is that there is just a dial for temperature control - so overall it's just a more basic and affordable design. It still features the same reliable Sawafuji compressor and high quality construction - so if you just need a fridge to keep your bevvies cold in the back of your car, the MR40F Eclipse would be ideal. Hope that helps, Geoff!
I’m comparing the power consumption between this Engel and the Waeco35. The Waeco specs shows about 0.8a/h (based on 32 degrees ambient; 5degrees in fridge) yet the Engel specs give a range of 0.5A/h to 2.75a/h. Does Engel have more useful specs on power consumption, similar to what Waeco have provided? Or can someone let me know which is more power efficient. Thanks
G'day Chris,
Its a great question, but honestly there is no clear cut answer. Something to consider is that even between your most efficient and least efficient brands out there, you're probably looking at a 5% overall difference.
Unfortunately the factors of power consumption do not just come down to ambient temperature & fridge temperature.
Even though Waeco provides that information, you can have 3 identical fridges running at those temperature conditions stated and all will have vastly different power draw depending on: how full your fridge is, what kinds of items you have in your fridge, how many times you're opening the lid, whether or not you have an insulation bag or what kind of surface your fridge is sitting on, aswell as how long you fridge has been running.
Depending on how you're using your fridge, there can be upto a 40% difference between identical models in the same temperature conditions. So in terms of your question on wether Waeco or Engel is more power efficent, the answer is they're going to essentially be the same, and a call cant be made on that either way.
If we’re hanging it in the car and it’s brand new, how long will it take to get cool?
G'day Amy,
Lots of factors to consider with this one mate. Outside temp, 12V or 240V, using it as a fridge, or freezer..? All of these things will influence how long it will take to get cool. As a very rough guide, maybe approximately 30mins for it to become cool (not cold or freezing) but longer on a hot day. Cheers
I read from other reviews this is so noisy, is this true?
G'day Renel,
Great question! The Engel MR40F Eclipse 38L Fridge, and other Engel models can be noisy, however this is the nature of compressor refridgeration. Much like your fridge at home there will be some noise whilst the fridge is cycling up. In terms of it being 'so noisy', I honestly think that comes down to each persons interpretation. What is considered noisy to some, wont be an issue for others.
If your fridge sits on hollow surface (eg bench top, or even a metal tray, etc) it can amplify the noise and vibrations. The easy solution for that is to chuck an insulated or thick rubber mat under the fridge. Having said that, my family have been running Engel fridges since I was a child and the noise has never been an issue. In terms of customer feedback, I'd say maybe 2-3 customers over the years have found the Engels to be noisy for them.
If you are concerned that noise will be an issue for you, I recommend looking at the Dometic Waeco CFX 40W Fridge Cover, as the Waeco fridges are generally known to run on the quieter side.
How many litres of it does need petrol or how much time to charge and how long does it last
G'day Emma,
The Engel MR40F Eclipse Fridge is designed to run directly from a 12V or 240V power source so no petrol required. You'll need to keep it plugged into your vehicle or wall plug though if you're wanting to run it away from a vehicle or your house then you might need to purchase a separate battery system. Maybe give us a call on 1300 914 007 and we can chat through the options with you.
G'day Belinda,
Can you please confirm that this fridge is 63.6 wide? That seems much wider than similar models.
G'day Anna,
I've just double checked this with my tape measure and the Engel MR40F Eclipse 38L Fridge is 63.6cm long but only about 38cm wide. We'll get this fixed up to reflect the correct dimensions right away.
Hello! Does the Engel MR40F have any form of car battery protection or is there a gadget you can buy to monitor low voltage? Is the low voltage protection ( as in Waeco ) actually for benefit of car or fridge? Thank you. Helene
G'day Helene,
The Engel MR40F Eclipse 38L Fridge Freezer doesn't come with any sort of car battery protection, I'm sorry to say. As for whether or not battery protection is beneficial for your car or fridge. It's mostly beneficial for your car as it stops your battery from running dry. Engel may stock some sort of alert mechanism for low voltage but there's nothing that we stock, unfortunately.
Does the unit have an interior light at all?
G'day Bec,
Unfortunately, the Engel Eclipse range doesn't have an interior light feature.
Hi, Can you hook the Engel up to solar panels, etc.?
G'day Julie,
Great question. You can use certain solar panels to power your Engel Fridge, but they must be part of a bigger set up with a battery. It's not possible to plug a solar panel directly into a fridge. To understand the specifics of what type of solar panel and battery you'll need, feel free to give our Customer Support team a call on 1300 914 007 and they can talk you through your options.
Is the cover an engel transit bag?
G'day Barry,
Yes it sure is - just to note that in case you weren't aware, the fridges are only available as an in store pick up only item, as freighting presents too many damage issues.
G’day Gary, at the moment we’re working really hard to find a way to safely deliver fridges and other in-store-only items for the near future. For now, our range of fridges is on our website just to let people know that they are available to purchase in store.
Hi Gary, it's been a long time coming, and it's most likely you have already sorted out a fridge for yourself, but just in case I wanted to come back and let you know that we have started shipping our fridges Australia wide, all at our everyday low prices. I apologise for the inconvenience previously caused here.
I think the part number is ECLKIT If yes what is the price?
