All the features of the ever popular Mitchell swag, only the Oztrail Mitchell Expedition comes with a PVC vinyl floor for added water protection and easy cleaning.
The tough 330gsm SatProof 600+ ripstop canvas upper has been saturated with an anti-mildew waterproofing agent prior to manufacture to ensure your swag offers reliable protection for a lifetime of outdoor adventures. Three high tensile Durallium poles keep the canvas off your face while you rest in comfort on the extra deep 6cm high density open cell foam mattress.
A full length top opening with both canvas and No-See-Um mesh layers provides easy access. Weather proof head and foot awnings facilitate ventilation and heavy duty roll straps are incorporated into the design for simple pack up. Two interior storage pockets help to keep your small necessities close at hand.
What colours does this Mitchell Expedition swag come in?
G'day Teagan,
The Mitchell Expedition only comes in Khaki.
I plan to travel between weeks to months. Walking around the east coast of Australia. My main concern is if this will be fully waterproof for a real Rambler. Nothing worse then getting a tent/swag and finding on the first rainy night that everything is damp. I want to remain dry if by some freak accident it rains for months on end.
These are waterproof Some Rambler, but given the cotton component of canvas fabric, extended wet periods could see some of the fabric start to wet out a little, and this could take a while to dry.
You'd still stay dry on the inside though, it's more about the fabric getting wet than water leaking in. I'd recommend taking some form of tarp shelter to put over your swag if you expect this type of weather. This would reduce the amount of rain directly hitting your swag and doubles as a cooking shelter. Something like the Oztrail Hiker fly with a couple of upright spigot poles would do the trick. Hope this helps.
I am 6ft 4in, would I fit in this swag?
G'day Richard,
You'll have no issue fitting into the Oztrail Mitchell Expedition Swag as it fits people up to 210cm in length.
Hi, Do you know what the difference between the Oztrail mitchell expedition swag & Oztrail Mitchell king single swag is. Thanks
G'day Max,
The two swags are basically identical except the "Expedition" has a PVC Vinyl base whereas the "King Single" has a 330gsm Satproof™ Canvas base.
Hi I'm going to the cape in August, what's the best sleeping bag or should I use a liner and blanket?
Hi Wayne,
I spent 6 weeks up the Cape in July last year and we never actually used a sleeping bag, just a sheet. Average overnight temperatures at that time of year are still in the low 20's. If you particularly want a sleeping bag I would look at the ones we sell which are suited to 10 degrees: Sleeping bags for warmer weather.
I'd like to remove the mattress and put in my Exped Megamat. Are they removable? Thanks
G'day Justin,Â
I've just checked the display model, and the Mitchell Expedition definitely has a removable mattress.
As for the Megamat, I can't blame you for wanting to make your swag extra comfy - the dimensions for the Mitchell and the Megamat 10 LXW match up, so you should be good to go!Â
What's the difference in size between the expedition & a king single? Also, do you have to use the third pole in the middle?
G'day Brianna,Â
There is no difference in size between the Mitchell Expedition and the Mitchell King Single, the main feature that seperates the two is that the Mitchell King Single has a Canvas floor, whereas the Mitchell Expedition has a PVC Vinyl floor.Â
I've just checked for you, and no you don't have to use the middle pole - it just means that the swag will rest closer to your body, while you sleep.Â
G’day Richard, I’ve just double checked for you myself and out of our carry bag range, the Oztrail King Single Swag Bag (Snowys code: 37314) is the best fit for the Oztrail Mitchell Expedition Swag.
With a whole lot of my other gear being very lightweight, how realistic would it be to take this swag on a 3-4 night hike? I'm trying to find a middle ground between hike-camping and beside-car-camping
Hi Nathan, the Mitchell weighs 8kg so for a 4 day hike it would not be very realistic to carry when you add your pack weight to that figure. If you’re set on a swag the most suitable and lightest one is the Oztrail Biker (Snowy's code: 36287) which is 5kg and packs down smaller than the Mitchell. However we would recommend a hiking tent for your use. The best entry level hiking tent we have is the Companion Pro Hiker 1 tent (code: 37307) – this would be your best bet as it’s a good price point, weighs 2.3kg, and comes with its own rainfly for water protection.
Does the Mitchell expedition have three poles or two? Is there a size and weight difference between the Mitchell expedition and King version?
How does the Mitchell Expedition compare to the Mitchell King Single and the Lachlan? The features look very similar, yet I see it is a lot cheaper?
