Would this mattress fit in the Dometic Pico 2x2 swag? While the mattress dimensions fit within the swag, I worry that the air poles in the corners of the swag would get in the way? Thank you
G'day Jackson,
We've not tried the combo out in real life, however the sleeping area length is 215cm & the Megamat Duo is 197cm - because the mat is shorter, it wont have to work around the poles at either end anyway.
Hope that helps!
I am looking to get the lightest and best quality hiking tent that will still fit the 132cm wide Duo. Can you please recommend the smallest , best quality and also the lightest tent, perhaps without having to go to a 3 man tent?
G'day Simon,
The only option we have in the 2 man tent size is the Companion Pro Hiker, all other 2 man options are either too narrow or have a taper which excludes the Exped megamat.
Your lightest and best quality options in the 3P size are the MSR Hubba Hubba 3, or the Sea to Summit Telos TR3 3−Person Ultralight Tent
Can you recommend a 12v deflator/pump that would deflate the mattress? also how thin is it fully deflated?
G'day David,
There's no specific pump that is designed to deflate self-inflating mats currently. It's not something we'd recommend, as it may cause damage to the internal structure over time. At your own risk, you could use something like the Coleman Quickpump or Zempire 2-way Pump, the fitting may not be an exact fit so you will likely have to create a seal with your hand or similar to deflate.
We'd recommend opening up the deflate valve and laying down on the mat to squeeze out as much air as you can, then folding the mat loosely and pushing more air out. Once you've done this, rolling the mat up should be pretty easy, and any residual air can be pushed out as you roll. The mat would be about 5-7cm thick when deflated depending on your rolling capabilities.
Hello, Any suggestions for something we can use as a protective cover that protects the whole mattress not just the top? These aren't cheap so I'm trying to find something for a little extra protection against holes, wear and damage. Thanks
G'day Josh,
You could use something like a tent carpet or similar underneath the mattress to protect the bottom. Another option would be something like a Fully Encased Mattress Protector/Cover that could do the job of protecting the mattress fully.
Hi Snowys, any chance you could throw one of these on two Helinox cots paired alongside each other, and give us your thoughts?
Sorry Steve, we don't have the cots in stock here at the moment but I can definitely give you my thoughts!
I'm pretty confident that you wouldn't have any issues if you can anchor the cots together to stop them potentially separating in the night with movement.
The side bars on the cot are rounded which means they shouldn't cause too many issues with comfort, but you'll probably still feel that slight ridge in the middle if you're going for a cuddle.
The cots will end up just marginally wider than the mattress which is ideal because it will be fully supported and you won't lose out on functional mattress space. It will hang over by a few cm on either end length wise, but that's not going to be an issue unless you're more than 190cm tall.
Hope that helps!
Can I safely use a heated blanket on this mattress?
G'day Max,
I personally wouldn't. We can't guarantee that a heated blanket wouldn't effect any of the adhesive that bonds the mat together, or if it would have any effect on the internal foam.
If you are concerned about being cold, check out our podcast on How to Camp Cosy, we've got a section on sleeping warm and preparing for staying warm at night.
Is the MegaMat compatible with folding RTTs? Worried about pinching when I pack up my tent
G'day Wayne,
No, this mat is not suitable to be used in a folding roof top tent, unless you are prepared to put the mattress in and take it out again each time you set up/pack up.
The only self-inflating mat that we're aware of that will work, is the Darche RTM 1400 mat.
Hope that helps.
Can the Megamat be left inflated for use in Trayon slide on camper
It's actually best to leave the mat inflated, Dee, the only consideration you may need to make is to make sure there aren't any pinch points that could puncture your mat when packing up your camper.
I've heard the Yowie matress isn't particularly comfortable, could you use this in a 23 Zero Yowie as well as the Yowie matress? Is there any way this would be good in the Yowie?
G'day Regan,
I've not heard any complaints on the mattress, and personally find it to be very comfortable.
If you decided that you wanted to use a different mattress, you could use this one, but it would need to be put in and removed with each set up/pack down, and packed separately. It cant be folded up with the rooftop tent.
Hi, Just wondering what kind of minimum tent floor width you'd need to accommodate the double, to be safe? Mont Moondance 2 tent at a width of 128cm I'm supposing would be a definite no go... Thanks
G'day Mel.,
The Megamat Duo is 132cm wide, so you'd want a floorspace width to be 135cm or more to give a cm or so space between the mattress and the tent walls.
Anytime a mattress is pressing against the wall can create stress on the tent inner, which is abit more of an issue in lighter weight hiking tents, and it can also mean a moisture or condensation trap...all in all, not recommended sorry!
Hi team, Is the double version easy to deflate and pack away solo?
It would certainly be easier with two people, Sam, but it's manageable but not necessarily easy with one. You just need to allow time for all the air to expel.
Will this roll up in my darche dirty dee 1400 swag
G'day Phil,
Yep, absolutely. You may need to pull the mattress out and compress it as much as possible first, to reduce the overall bulk to make packing up easier. Alot of people replace their existing Swag mats with Exped's or similar, so it's a common thing to do.
Check out our video on how to roll up/pack away an Exped mat for more of an idea on these mats.
Looking at the Blackwolf grasshopper 2UL, which measures at 205x130, will it be fairly easy to squash in that extra 20mm of width?
G'day Taylor,
This isn't a combination we'd recommend, as the extra width, and shape of the mat may cause damage to the tent body itself. We'd recommend considering the Grasshopper UL3 instead if you're planning to car camp with this set up.
Wondering if it will fit in an ikamper mini? cheers.
G'day Kal,
Thanks for your question, unfortunately we're not familiar with the ikamper mini, so we're not sure sorry.
You can find the in use and packed dimensions listed on the product page, so we'd recommend measuring your space to determine if the mat will fit.
No issues with fitting one of these and a single in a SV5 with room for bags?
G'day Ewan,
Due the the slope of the back wall on the Oztent SV5 you won't have much spare room on the head & foot ends, however you'll have just under a meter of width between mattresses left over. That should be more than enough space to store bags, etc.
Can we wash it without causing damage?
G'day Mat,
You shouldn't have any issues doing a spot clean or handwash on your EXPED Megamat, most people do, but I'd recommend using something like Wool Wash or Lux Soap flakes that are gentle and dont leave residues behind.
Make sure to dry thoroughly before packing away!
i have an rv5 will the double and single size fit in the main tent for myself and my husband on the double and our toddler on the single?
G'day Elizabeth,
Yes, you can fit a Megamat Duo 10 LW and a Megamat 10LXW in the main tent so that you'll have room for the two of you, plus your toddler.
We have an Exped Megamat Duo 10, and have just ordered an Exped Megamat Max 15. When we don't need both, is there any reason why we couldn't or shouldn't use the two on top of each other? Logically you'd think they'd be more comfortable, but would they, and are there any cons to such an idea? Thanks.
G'day Jacqui,
We'd probably recommend avoiding stacking mattresses on top of each other. Part of the reason they're nice and comfortable is having a flat stable surface underneath them. Putting them on top of each will mean that you'll end up with a combination that might give you a little more sink/cushion, but without the support. Give it a try when you get your new mattresses, but I think you'll find that they're individually more comfortable than stacked.
What does the 5 yr warranty cover?
G'day Nick,
You can find everything you'll need to know about the Exped 5 year warranty period here.
Will this fit in an oztent rv3 plus tent comfortably. 2 people, a little luggage but not much. Trying to decide which tent to buy to suit this mattress. We do like the idea of the skylight, but would there be room to move inside comfortably with this mattress, so An RV4 or RV3 plus?
G'day Catherine,
Yes, you can fit the Megamat Duo 10 LW in the RV3 Plus Tent. There will still be some room left for bags in the tent as well. The RV4 has a larger sleeping area so will likely give you a little more space a comfort, but the RV3 PLus will also suit.
Will this fit comfortably with room for bags into an Oztent RV4?
G'day Catherine,
Yes, you can comfortably fit the Exped Duo 10 LW in the RV4 with extra room for bags.
Hi, In your specs you list this mat as 130cm wide however on the Exped website they list it as 132cm wide for the Megamat Duo 10 LW . Im after the widest mat and was looking also at the Zempire monstamat at 132cm wide. Can you verify the size of this mat as Exped show different. Thanks
G'day Clint,
One of my colleagues had a call about this earlier today, but I'm not sure if it was you or not.
She measured the Exped Megamat Duo 10 LW , and can confirm that it is 132cm wide.
Our team are getting the listing updated today.
Say 20C overnight min? Will you get too hot?
G'day Michael,
I've got one of these mats and have slept on it over summer without any issues. You'll find it's a little warmer than sleeping on a non-insulated mattress but I've not found I'm too hot.
Is the Duo mattress the same size as a queen size bed mattress?
G'day Scott,
The Megamat Duo 10 LW is 132cm wide, which is generally classified as a Double. Queen mattresses are usually a little wider at 150cm.
Could this mattress be left inside 23 zero RTT when tent is packed up
G'day Darren,
Yes, this mattress will fit with room to spare - the sleeping space in the Dakota Roof Top is 240 x 143. You'll be able to leave it in there as long as the original mattress is taken out!
Any recommendations for two single stretchers to use with this mat? I am thinking of having it has a decent spare bed for visitors at home, but also use a single stretcher under my swag when I get a weekend away without the wife!
G'day Ryan,
We generally doin't recommend using a stretcher under these mats, or if you do then a double/queen stretcher will probably be your best option. Two singles stretchers will leave a fairly wide bar at the centre where the two stretchers meet which might mean you end up with a bit of a hill at the centre which will cause you to roll out towards the sides.
I’m looking for a size that roughly equates to a double mattress
G'day Mel,
The Megamat Duo 10 LW is 132cm wide. A standard double house mattress is usually about 137cm wide, so they are quite similar in size.
My rooftop tent folds over in half. Do you think this will fit when deflated? The mattress it came with 65mm high density foam. (Not super comfy)
G'day Gabrielle,
We wouldn't recommend storing this mat inside a rooftop tent when packed up as it may cause damage to the mat. We'd suggest rolling the mat separately to the tent and storing it in the vehicle for transit.
Hi, I got couple of tiny punctures in my Megamat Duo that I got from you (I blame the cat). Exped repair guide recommends 'Exped Textile Glue'. Do you stock any or can point where to get it?
G'day Paul,
The Exped Megamat comes with a small repair kit that includes patches and glue from memory. If you can't locate that then we can recommend Gear Aid Seam Grip, that's what we use here for repairs, and it is excellent!
Would the megamat duo lw fit in a msr hubba hubba tent?
G'day Michael,
Yes, just! The Megamat Duo 10 LW will just fit in the MSR Hubba Hubba with a centimetre or two to spare. It will take up the entire sleeping area, so just be aware that this might not be the most comfortable solution.
Hi. What stretcher would you recommend to be used with this mat??
G'day Cassie,
Unfortunately, we don't have a specific stretcher bed that's designed to accommodate this mattress. The Oztrail Easy Fold Queen which at 200L x 144W cm is more than large enough and probably your best bet if you'd like to give it a go. One thing to bear in mind though is that the stretcher does have a centre support bar running down the length as technically it's designed to sleep 2 people. This may or may not affect your comfort if using the set-up for one person. Hope that helps.
Hi there, brought an MSR Elixir 2 Hiking and Backpacking Tent from Snowy's and wanted to see if this mat would fit? The dimensions are similar but wanted to double check incase the mat is too big. Thanks!
G'day Law,
The dimensions are pretty much on par with each other and my thoughts are that the mattress will be just that bit too big to comfortably fit. It's also not ideal to have a mattress squished up against the sides of a tent as condensation may gather creating a very damp mattress plus it also puts extra strain on the stitching and structure of the tent. I hope this helps with your decision!
G'day Law,
I've checked out the dimensions of all our double camp mats and they are just that little bit too big for this tent. I've also looked at the hiking range of mats and joining two mats together and even this makes the mats too large! I'm not sure if there are other brands on the market that might be that little bit smaller.
Wanting to replace mattress in camper trailer and only have 100mm depth to work with.
G'day Ruth,
You can leave the Megamat Duo Sleeping mattress set up inside your camper trailer but we'd suggest leaving the valves open and being super careful when packing up your camper trailer.
What stretcher would best suit this sleeping mat
G'day Adam,
Unfortunately mate, we don't stock any stretcher that's going to be a perfect match but there's a couple of close options :) The external dimensions on the Megamat Duo are 197L x 132W cm which, if you went with the Zempire Twin Speedy Stretcher Bed, your mat would overlap the sides by 1-2 cms all around. Alternatively, there's OZtrail's Easy Fold Queen which at 200L x 144W cm is more than large enough and would infact offer a little excess. One thing to bear in mind though is that both stretchers do have a centre support bar running down the length as technically they are designed to sleep 2 people. This may or may not affect your comfort if using the set-up for one person. Hope that helps. Cheers
Thinking of purchasing both of these items together
G'day Luke,
The Megamat Duo 10 LW will just fit inside the Bandit 1400 but you'll end up with a little bit of stretch and the canvas at either end.
We are sleeping in our RAV4. I think the medium size would fit best and still be wide enough for my husband and I to sleep on. Do you stock the "medium" mat? Or can you get one in for me before November?
G'day Jenni,
At this stage, we're only able to get our hands on the Megamat Duo 10 or the Megamat 10LXW. As far as we're aware these are the only models currently available from the Australian supplier. If you flick me an email back with the maximum width you have I can check and see if there are any other mats we sell that might do the trick.
Hi , have you tried to deflate it with a vacuum pump (Mini Light Air Pump USB ) without having to compress/roll it? or does it really require compression to deflate ?
G'day Chris,
It's not something we've tried but we can't see why not - it would certainly speed up the packing up process! Let us know how it goes though.
I am hoping to minimise the diameter of my swag (Darche Nebula 1550) when rolled up with a matress inside. What is the packed diameter of the Megamat Duo if it is rolled up without folding in half first as I won't be using the Exped bag? Thanks guys!
G'day Pat,
Thanks for getting in touch, my colleague and I have tried this out for you and the diameter of the Exped Megamat 10 Duo when rolled but not folded in half is 25cm, we rolled it fairly tightly, but if you were to roll it a little looser it would be closer to 30cm.
Hi Just wondering if the double mat fits inside the kigs big daddy deluxe swag
G'day Ryan,
According to the specs of the Big Daddy Deluxe, the swag is 155cm and the width of the Exped Megamat 10 Duo is 130cm so yes, technically it will fit but obviously, there will be a bit extra room on either side of the mat.
Will the MegaMat Duo fit inside the sleeping compartment of a Coleman Chalet 9 CV Family Dome Tent. I was hoping to fit a double in 1 side for myself and my husband and 2 x single Megamats in the other compartment for my children. Will the two singles fit into one sleeping compartment?
G'day Catherine,
We've tested this out a few times and can confirm that the Megamat Duo 10 will fit in one end of the tent, and you can fit 2 x Megamat 10LXWs in the other end.
When the mat is fully inflated, can 4 people sit on it at the same time? or I need to let the air go out to make the mat a bit soft?
G'day Kevin,
The Megamat 10 Duo is designed for two people to sleep on it, so it should be fine for 4 people to sit on if you needed. There is an easily adjustable valve on the mat so you can let a little bit of air out if you need.
Out of the three branded matts, which one would be the most popular and comfortable in your opinions? Thanks
G'day Shane,
I personally think the Megamat Duo 10 is the most comfortable of the three brands, but I guess it's a subjective opinion. The Zempire and Black Wolf mats are also pretty comfy. In terms of popularity, the Zempire mats are really popular, but that may be due to the price point.
Hi guys, im tossing up between this, the Oztrail Queen, Zempire Monstamat and Blackwolf Megamat 10 Duo. What are the main differences in each and what do you consider bangs for bucks?
G'day Jay,
Thanks for the great question. The first thing I will say is that the Oztrail Queen mat is a completely different type of product to the other two. It is a non-bonded mat and isn't technically speaking a self-inflating mat, it, therefore, packs up really large, so we find you have to store them on a roof rack. Comparing the Zempire Monstmat and Exped Megamat Duo 10 is definitely something we're often asked to do. In short, the Zempire Monstmat is a very good
Hi there, the instructions state to avoid heat exposure. How should we handle the heat of a tent during the day? The spot may or may not be shady. Do we leave both valves open? Thanks.
G'
Thanks for getting in touch, we'd generally suggest leaving both valves on the Megamat Duo 10 open as you indicate to allow the mat to contract/expand with the temperature changes. This will generally be most applicable in the summer months.
Where is it made?
G'day Max,
I've just checked the packaging and the Megamat 10 Duo is made in Taiwan.
Do I need to store the mat flat or can it be rolled and packed in the stuff sack bag between camping trips (which may be up to 6-12 months apart). If it needs to be stored flat, can I store it vertically flat? (ie. up against a wall)
G'day Monnie,
Ideally, store your mat flat, inflated and with the valve open if you have space. Doing this vertically is fine as well, you can store them upright in a wardrobe etc if that works the best for you. If you have to keep it rolled up, roll it as loosely as possible and keep the valve open. As long as it's in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight you'll be fine.
Based on the questions asked about this mat there is a lot of interest in a sheet for it. Australian Exped website offers a sheet for this mat called "MAT SHEET MEGAMAT DUO" and product no 7640171990194. Do you plan to stock this product?
G'day Paul,
Thanks for your query, we have had a few enquiries for the Exped Megamat Duo Mat Sheets lately. I've just double checked with the Australian supplier and they don't actually bring these into Australia at this point in time. We're currently discussing the possibility of bringing some of these in next year with our next major shipment. If we do go ahead with this we'd probably see them towards the middle of next year. You might need to source one from somewhere overseas or the Black Wolf Fitted Mat Sheet - Double will work but does compress the corners a little
I bought the Black Wolf sheets - double and single - and could not get them to fit on the Exped mats. While the dimensions appear to be the same on the website, the Black Wolf mat has curved corners but the Exped ones are square. Despite strugling to do so, I couldn't compress the Exped mats sufficiently to get them to fit into the the Black Wolf sheets. I'd be really interested in proper Exped sheets though!!
G'day Kristin,
I've just chased this up with our purchasing team again for you and unfortunately, the Exped Fitted Mat Sheets are not being brought in to Australia. The Australian supplier has indicated that at this point in time they're not a cost viable product to bring into the country.
On the exped website - they list two sizes for the Duo 10. An 'M' size that is 183cm in length and a LW size which is 197cm in length. Which one is this? I assume it is LW by the dimensions that you list? Cheers.
G'day Jacob,
We have the Exped Megamat 10 Duo LW which is as you indicate 197cm Long x 132cm Wide.
Looking at getting a double swag rather than 2 singles & was wondering if we could use the Megamat Duo as extra comfort inside the swag? Thanks for the information about the single swag cheers
G'day Andrea,
I was pretty sure this worked but I've given it a test run in the shop and the Exped Megamat Duo will fit really nicely in the Oztrail Mitchell Expedition Double Swag.
just wondering if you have a fitted sheet to fit this or will the black wolf one fit
G'day Kristy,
The fitted sheets for the Exped Megamts aren't available in Australia. The Black Wolf sheets will fit but not perfectly and I think with use they'll probably slip off. We're looking into getting the Exped sheets but I don't have a timeline on that currently sorry.
Just use any standard fitted sheet. We use a double I think. We just use a single sheet on the mattress and use our sleeping bags as doonas
Does it allow the coolness of the ground in winter come though?
G'day Nadine,
The Exped Megamat provides a very effective thermal barrier between you and the ground as it has an R-value of 9.5 which is basically the highest rating available on a sleeping mat.
To give you an idea of where that figure sits, for alpine conditions we generally recommend a mat that has an R-value of 6 and over so the Megamat should be more than suitable for keeping the cold from the ground coming through.
For more on insulation and R-value, you can check out this article here. I hope this helped, Nadine.
Will this mat fit the Darche dusk to dawn 1400 swag
G'day Mario,
Looking at the dimensions of both the Exped Megamat 10 Duo Sleeping Mat and the Darche Dusk to Dawn 1400 Swag, you should be able to fit the mattress in nicely.
Hi we go camping with our two Beagles and they love to join us on the bed especially when it’s cold! Would it be strong enough for us all? (2 adults plus 2 dogs) Thanks
G'day Karl,
I certainly wouldn't imagine that your beagles will give the Exped Megamat 10 Duo Sleeping Mat much of a hard time. The only small thing I would be worried about would be the claws but if they're not super sharp or active scratchers then I reckon you'd be fine. To be ultra safe, using a bedsheet wouldn't go astray I reckon.
Would 2 Exped megamat duos fit in an Oztent RV 5?
G'day Amy,
The sleeping dimensions of the RV5 are 260 x 260, so as the Megamat Duo is 197L x 132W cm - you could just squeeze two duos in, but they would be edge-to-edge.
How do 2 Megamats go inside the RV5? As its only 2480mm between the frame rails inside. Curious as I would love to have these mats too.
G'day Jason,
As Emily has said above 2 Megamat Duo's will fit in an RV5 side by side, but they will get squeezed right up against each other and they'll more than likely touch the edges of the tent frame.
Hi, how long does this take to pump up/set up?
G'day Glen,
The Exped Megamat 10 Due Sleeping Mat can take a little while when the mat is new due to the compressed state of the foam. But if the mat is stored uncompressed, or loosely rolled then you can expect it to be ready in around five minutes. It won't inflate to its full potential independently, but comes with a mini pump to facilitate inflation to your desired 'firmness'.
We're considering purchasing either the Megamat 10 Duo or the Black Wolf Mega Deluxe Double. Are either of their bags/sacks waterproof?
G'day Elizabeth,
I've just quickly double checked the material of the bags for both the Exped Megamat 10 Duo Sleeping Mat & the Black Wolf and neither of them come with waterproof bags I'm sorry to say.
Hi Will this mat fit in a Coleman Traveller 3P tent. Thanks
G'day Pete,
I've just had a look at the Coleman Traveller 3P Tent with one of our Exped Megamat 10 Duo Sleeping Mats. Whilst it does fit in the tent, it touches the walls at the foot and head ends. This means that if it rains at all, you'll be in some strife.
G'day Riz,
The Exped Megamat 10 Duo Sleeping Mat is 197cm long and you've got 200cm of length in the Coleman Traveller. Whilst it might just fit in, you'll most likely find that it touches the ends, which you'd ideally want to avoid.
Would you say that one person can pack up the duo size mat?
G'day Lanny,
Yes one person can pack up the Exped Megamat 10 Duo Sleeping Mat.
Hi Snowys, Just to confirm, it's packed down size is really only 5 cm wider than the single?70x30 vs 70x25? How?
G'day Paul,
Good question mate! I've just been down on to the shop floor to double check for you and sure enough the Exped MegaMat Duo 10 isn't really any wider that the Exped MegaMat 10 LXW! It's because the double gets folded in half before its rolled up and that's why its a slightly bulkier diameter.
Hi, just curious after reading all the reviews how old these people are? My hubby has a bad back and I have a crappy hip. I weigh 75kg, hubby probably 98kg. We love camping rough but are now finding it very uncomfortable on our mattress waking up with sore hips and back because there is no support ....Is this truly a super ?
G'day Jan,
We actually don't know the age range of the customers who have reviewed the Megamat Duo online, but as far as our in feedback in store - we do get people of all ages who rave about how comfy the Megamat is.
Online our customers have said that they haven't had any aches or pains sleeping on this mat, and that even with the weight of two people - they were still comfortable and had enough support.
As far as comfort, this mat come in first out of the whole range - purely because of how much our customers (and staff) love it.
If you have any further queries, please feel free to give us a call Jan, and we'd be happy to talk you through the range.
