Do you think this mattress willsuit our needs
G'day Ian,
The Dirty Dee 1400 comes in at 140cm wide, and the Mega Deluxe Double comes in at 135cm wide, so yes your mat should suit the Dirty Dee 1400 BYO Swag.
which mat is better?
G'day Angie,
This is such a hotly debated question that we've written a blog as well as shooting a video on the topic. You can check it all out by clicking here.
Compared to the Exped Megamat 10 Duo Sleeping Mat, what mat is firmer? I'm aware this mat contains more foam than the Exped, does that make a difference in the ability to maintain air pressure and firmness of the mat during use?
G'day Mel,
Ok, this one is pretty subjective so I've crowdsourced some opinion and done a bit of testing myself. All the staff agreed the Black Wolf feels slightly firmer than the Exped but in my quick test, I'd say you can make either of them firmer or softer by adding or removing a bit of air. I actually found them similar once I'd played with the amount of air a bit. How much foam is inside the mat shouldn't affect the firmness or pressure the mat can hold. Reading some of the reviews on our site for both mats might give you a broader range of opinions so make sure you check those out.
Hey, been looking everywhere for a picture of the double rolled up but cannot find one, are you able to post one up so I can see it?
G'day Jared,
Here you go
Can these mattresses be inserted into the following...Oztrail anywhere bed queen as the mrs would much prefer to be well off the ground or are they only to be used specifically on the floor ?
G'day Bobby,
The Black Wold Mega Deluxe Double Camp Mat can be used up off the ground on a stretcher. We generally wouldn't recommend the Oztrail Anywhere bed though as it isn't really designed to go on top of those. You might consider the Oztrail Easy Fold Queen Stretcher or Zempire Twin Speedy Stretcher. You might just need to consider the centre bar.
Got one of these a couple of years ago and it’s great but have got a split in the storage bag so difficult to add more air. Can these be purchased it’s a double? Thanks
G'day Jason,
I've just spoken to Balck Wolf and unfortunately, they don't hold stock of the carry bags for the Mega Deluxe mats so we're not able to get our hands on any. What you could do is shoot us an email with a picture of the split and we can advise on what we think the best repair method would be to get it up and running again.
Will this fit on my Coleman Traveller 3P Tent without any issue?
G'day Riz,
The Coleman Traveller 3P Tent is about 200cm long, the Black Wolf Mega Deluxe Double Camp Mat is about 198cm long. Whilst it will just scrape in, it will touch the edges, which we ideally like to avoid in a camping mat as it can lead to condensation coming through on to your mattress.
How does the black wolf Mega Deluxe Double camp mat compares to the Zempire Megamat Twin Camp Mat?
G'day Alzina,
In term of specs, they’re both 10cm and the in use and packed dimensions are also very similar. Comfort wise, they’re on par with each other as well.
The main differences are the Black Wolf has tapered edges compared to the Zempire which squares off which some people might prefer as it’d be more like your mattress at home. The valves are also slightly different, and the Black Wolf has a limited Lifetime warranty, where the Zempire is 1 year so that’s something to keep in mind as well.
I hope this helped Alzina, but feel free to give our customer service a team a buzz on 1300 914 007 if you're having trouble deciding on a mat.
I want to upgrade with our current 2 cheap single mats to better quality mats. I am wandering weather to get 2 single mats or 1 double mat. It is appealing than 1 double is cheaper than 2 singles and also that it might feel more like sleeping together, but I am wandering whether the packing of the double mat is really hard or not. I would appreciate your comments
G'day Alzina,
The Black Wolf Mega Deluxe Double Camp Mat definitely isn't too hard to pack up when comparing to a couple of singles. It does take a little longer than a single but you're only needing to pack up one. Given the reasons you thought the double might be better, I reckon you'd be best off going for a double and saving yourself a few bucks.
Recently camped at Wee Jasper, temperature dropped to minus 6 overnight. I have Coleman durasleep air mattress and I froze and struggled to get good night sleep. Would the same thing happened with these self inflating mattresses
G'day Darren,
The Black Wolf Mega Deluxe Double Camp Mat have a really high R-Value of 9.5, this means that it's really well insulated and will keep you a heck of a lot warmer than an air mattress will.
What is the maximum user weight on these products please
G'day Ben,
There's not any specific weight limit on the Black Wolf Mega Deluxe Double Camp Mat. Unless you're planning on driving your car over it, I reckon you'll be pretty safe using it for most people.
How long does it take to self inflate when you first unpack it after purchase ...mines been inflating for about 10 hours and hasn't really done much 😜
G'day Dudley,
We suggest you leave it to inflate for 1-2 days when you first open up the Black Wolf Mega Deluxe Double Camp Mat. It won't always take that long, but we suggest it for the first time around.
Hey Snowys, looking for a bit more comfort under my Oztrail double swag mattress. Would this roll up inside the canvas, underneath the mattress of a swag? Cheers
G'day Scott,
If you tried to roll your Black Wolf Mega Deluxe Double Camp Mat inside your swag, it would try to reinflate inside the swag. We suggest rolling up the mat, sealing it, unrolling it and then rolling back up with the swag. That way, it should stay nice and tight once rolled up. You'll also want to just make sure that the swag you've got is big enough for the mattress.
We own one of these, thinking of buying another. The bag / pump thing is really a bit crap and hard to use. Are there any other compatible hand pumps we could purchase?
G'day Melissa,
Unfortunately, the Black Wolf Mega Deluxe Double Camp Mat comes with a valve size that doesn't fit any of the competitors' pumps & Black Wolf don't make one, I'm sorry to say.
Please let me know how this mat would fit in the above mentioned tent. Thanks
G'day Irene,
Unfortunately it looks like the internal space of the Easy Up 3 would not accommodate your mat sorry. Perhaps you could take a look at the EPE Speedy 3 or the Malamoo Mega 4.
The tent has a sleeping area with a length of 200mm, so wondering if it would be a tight fit. If this mat won't work, could you recommend one. Either a double or 2 singles. Thanks
G'day Irene,
If you'd like another mat option to fit the Easy Up 3, the easiest thing to do is get two single mats as these tend to be more flexible size wise. A great mat is the Sea To Summit Comfort DLX SI and two of these would just fit in this tent. as they're 183cm long and 64cm wide each.
We are looking to go camping with the family for the first time in July (nsw mid north coast). My wife and i were looking for the best sleeping option for us. Will something like this (without a stretcher) be sufficient to stop the cold. Any other alternatives.
G’day Greg,
You should be able to just use a mat like this one (no stretcher) because the Mega Deluxe has excellent insulating properties.
The Black Wolf Mega Deluxe, and the Exped Megamat Duo are the top of the line in our range when it comes to comfort and warmth.
The Mega Deluxe Double has an R rating of 9.5, and so does the Megamat Duo - so they are going to provide you with the most amount of insulation out of all the mats in our range.Just make sure you pair this mat with a couple of very warm sleeping bags and you should be good to go.
I would say the Megamat has the edge over the Mega Deluxe (in terms of comfort), but for first-time campers you might want to go for the more affordable Black Wolf option if you’re not planning on camping much.
I've just received my mat and before i open it up and can't return it does the pump/storage sack, and repair kit come rolled up in the mat?
G'day David,
I've just opened one up and yes, the waterproof pumpsack and repair kit come wrapped up inside the mattress.
There is a leak somewhere as the mattress deflates a lot sooner than it used to. Whats the best way to find where the leak is?
G'day Theo,
Ah, the old leak hunt! Give yourself some time with this one as sometimes they are hard to locate. The easiest thing to do is to fill a spray bottle with lightly soapy water and wet down your mat. Then simply roll out the air from the base and where you see bubbles forming should indicate a leak. You can then mark this area, clean it and allow it to dry before applying a patch and adding pressure while it dries overnight.
I've read different people's ideas on storage of self inflating matts. Some store theirs open to avoid permanently squashing the foam inside. What do you recommend?
Thats a good question Lauren, one we actually wrote a blog about which you can access by clicking here.
I have been looking around and cannot find any information on whether it is or not?
Howdy Naomi,
Yes the Black Wolf self inflating mats are all bonded. This is a great feature allowing the air to go nowhere else other than between you and the ground, and preventing ballooning of the fabric around you. Cheers!
as above
It may be affected slightly Nathan, especially if the mat is not pumped up causing the mat to be much thinner in spots due to the users body weight. The warmth value is dependent on the density and thickness of the foam, the R-Value would be calculated at a certain pressure under a calibrated user weight, but I am unsure exactly what these calibration measures are sorry.
Looking for something to go hiking with for several nights camping - is this manageable?
G’day Tim,
In general we wouldn’t suggest a Camp Mat like this one for hiking, as the weight and bulk will take its toll on your back when you combine it with the rest of the gear you’ll have to carry e.g. food, water, tent, etc.
The roomiest hiking mats we have are the Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Insulated Rectangular Mat or the Exped Synmat 9 LW. Neither are the lightest in the range but they do give that extra width.Â
Hi, what stretcher would fit this mat? I see many that are queen but would prefer a double I think. Open to suggestions.
Hi Graham,
We've only got a couple of options in our range, as most of the stretchers we stock are single. We have either the Oztrail Easy Fold Queen Stretcher, or the Zempire Twin Speedy Stretcher bed. Of the two, I think the Oztrail would be the best option as the Zempire is just a touch small for this mat. Hope this helps.Â
is the displayed black version shipped or the green version. Just making sure it will be black, cheers.
G'day MeRa,Â
The Black Wolf Mega Deluxe Doubles that we stock are the latest model available which are most definitely black.Â
As above
G'day Don,Â
We would love to get more queen sizes in but we find that manufacturers don't tend to make as many queen mats, as they believe most campers prefer compact over comfort.Â
We do have one queen mat - the Oztrail 4WD self-inflating mat which you might want to take a look at here to see if it will suit your camping set up.Â
I'll certainly pass on your feedback to our purchasing manager, as we're always looking at how we can improve each area in our range.Â
I am interested if it is possible to join a double and a single Black Wolf mattress together? Or do only the single mattresses have velcro on the sides? Thanks!
G'day Jessica,
I've just checked the display models, and only the single size of the Mega Deluxe Camp Mats have velcro along one side for joining another mat.Â
This is labeled as new on your website, how does it compare to the older model?
G'day Milly,
The Black Wolf Mega Deluxe Double Camp Mat has two main differences from the old model.
The new mat has just one high flow reversible valve for more effective inflation (instead of two), and a polycotton top which is slightly more comfortable than the old model's micro stretch fabric.
It's still just as comfortable to sleep on as the old model - it now just inflates slightly more effectively, and has a softer less synthetic feel.Â
G'day everyone,Â
We've just had some feedback from a customer who has corrected my answer - it turns out the Mega Deluxe Double actually has two valves, not one - so I do apologise for the mistake there, I must have misread the packaging!Â
What's the movement like with 2 people sleeping on the mat? I move about a bit during my sleep and don't want to upset the Mrs too much
G'day Ray,
The Mega Deluxe Double Camp Mat shouldn't give you any trouble with movement as it's made from foam, so the air is evenly distributed (unlike an air bed) so you won't get that annoying shift when you move around.Â
Â
The mega deluxe has a packed dimension of 80L x 20W x 20H This is 68L x 25W x 25H
G'day David,
I've just checked this out for you, and the dimensions on both the double and single Mega Deluxe Mats are definitely correct.
The reason why the single is 80cm long, and the double is 68cm long is because the double actually folds in half when you pack it up- so it's shorter, (but fatter) when rolled up.
