If you don’t get out as much as you’d like but you prefer to invest in a quality product, the MD40F 38L Fridge Freezer from Engel won’t let you down.
Despite it’s more affordable price tag, this unit is still tough and built to handle your outdoor adventures. This model is a simplified version of the original Engel series of fridges, but with a lightweight polypropylene cabinet, soft bumpers on the corners for protection, a reversible lid and removable handles. Backed by Engel’s 50-year history, it's got the reliable Sawafuji Swing Motor, along with features such as basic temperature selection through a single dial and is designed to operate from a 12/24V DC power source only.
Keep the MD40F 38L Fridge Freezer on your boat, or in the back of your 4WD for reliable cooling when you head off the grid.

Hi, can this run off the Engel Posi fit 12v socket (e.g. the socket on the right of the Engel battery box), or do you need to buy an extra cable for that to work?
G'day Chris,
The 12v cigarette plug unscrews to reveal the Posifit fitting, so you can use the cable supplied in either situation.
Hope that helps!
Does this fridge have low voltage cutout? Looking for something to run directly off the car battery occasionally and don't want to end up with a flat battery.
G'day Lynne,
The MD40F model doesn't have a low voltage cutout. If you're wanting something from Engel with this feature you'd need to look at the MT-V45F model.
Is this fridge suitable to be carried on an open tray? Will torrential rain destroy the electrics and is the plastic case UV stabilised?
G'day Noel,
It's not something we'd recommend, as the fridge isn't waterproof or dustproof, so prolonged storage on a ute tray might lead to damage to the exterior body as well as the swing motor. Engel hasn't made any indications that the lid is UV stabilised, so we'd recommend avoiding UV exposure if you can, and storing the unit in a transit bag if you planned to occasional carry the fridge on your open tray in fair weather.
They look very similar, but just wondering if you could comment on the difference.
G'day Brenden,
The new MD40F is pretty similar, however, this model is just a 12/24V so you won't be able to plug it straight into mains power, but you'll be able to run it off your car or truck.
