Can you charge this via USB?
G'day Aimee,
No, you cant sorry - the unit requires 12v to charge via the provided cigarette plug cable.
USB is only 5v and not suitable for a large number of camping appliances.
Can you continue to run the cooler whilst recharging the Lithium Battery via AC or do you have to switch off the unit whilst charging ?
G'day Chris,
You can run the unit via the cable, but it won't charge at the same time. If you are specifically wanting the battery to charge, it will need to be turned off.
Hope that helps.
How much heat does the companion evaporative cooler give off? I'm wondering how effective it would be in a tent and how to set it up in a tent so the heat leaves the tent. Is it very noisy?
It doesn't really give off any heat, Liz, as it’s only running a fan and a water pump, you can hear the fan whirring and the water trickling, but you can have a conversation over it.
It’s really designed as a personal cooler i.e., to blow cool air directly at you rather than cool an area like the inside of the tent. Furthermore, if the tent was in direct sunlight, this cooler wouldn’t have enough power to offset the radiant heat of the sun given a tent doesn't have any insulation.
If would be most effective if you combine it with good ventilation through the tent and sit in front of the cooler so the cool air is directly on you.

What is the difference between this version and the older version? The description makes it sound like this one is better, but I can't really see what makes it better. Thanks.
It's really jsut the battery as far as we are aware, BB. The new version has an updated Lithium Ion battery htat gives you extended runtime on the high setting and will provide a longer battery life.
