The Oztent Malamoo X-Tra Tent is one of the worlds quickest and easiest 3 person tents to set up, with a host of other features, the Malamoo X-Tra will revolutionise your camping!
No more messing about at the campsite, the Malamoo X-Tra is a true “all in one” tent, with a built in pole structure and attached fly and guy ropes. All you need to do is pull the tent out of its carry bag, and apart from placing some pegs, the Malamoo X-Tra tent does the rest for you.
The dual skin construction features a waterproof fly over an inner tent with a set-back interior mesh door that creates an enclosed front vestibule. A truly versatile 2-3 season tent, the Malamoo X-Tra shows off its functionality with an extendable front awning (poles included) that provides extra shade and superior ventilation in warm weather.
How do you stop the tent from being blown away? There does not seem to be any pegs on the corners holding it down.
G'day Chris,
I've gone and double checked our display model. The Oztent Malamoo X-Tra Pop-Up Tent comes included with pegs. It isn't easy to see through the online images, but the way in which you peg the tent down is through slits that run around the base. The tent has been designed to peg over the pole that runs around the perimeter of the base.
However, I'd love to offer a hot tip to protect the tent poles. I'd recommend tying a small loop of rope around the pole at every opening. The reason for this is to provide an alternative peg point to ensure you avoid damaging the pole when applying pressure through the peg. The rope will still hold but will be separated from the pole ensuring you don't accidentally damage it when hammering in the peg.
Hello, After receiving this tent, I can report that if you want to fit inside 2 sleeping mattresses 2 meters long, you will only have 135cm width to play with.
Thanks for that info Julian!
It's always helpful to know what works with a tent, so thanks for passing that along to everyone else reading this Q A thread.
I noticed the 2 person pop up has hooks for lanterns but is not mentioned on this 3 person version. ?? Also is there a back window for air flow please?
G’day Sharon,
The Malamoo X-Tra 3P Pop Up tent does have side vents as well as a mesh panel at the back for ventilation inside the tent.
As for lantern hooks, I’ve looked at our display model, and checked with the info supplied by Oztent, and it seems that the X-tra model doesn’t come with a lantern hook.Â
Would this tent be suitable to use a stretcher in? Is the floor strong/thick enough to withstand stretcher feet? Is there a particular stretcher you would recommend?
G'day Geoff,Â
As the Malamoo X-Tra 3P Pop Up Tent has a floor made from polyester, it's probably not a good idea to use a stretcher that has individual feet as they may be too harsh for the floor.Â
A good option would be something like the Coleman Big Sky Bed as this stretcher has smooth U shaped legs, as opposed to feet. Â
1. Door to the vestibule 2. Screen door to main tent 3. Solid fly to main tent ? thanks
G’day Natalie,
I’ve just had a look at the in store model, and there is a main door that you enter the tent from which is solid. Once you’re in the vestibule there is door that has both a mesh and solid zippered panel that can be used separately or together to the inner tent. So in total there are two doors. Â
We've had this tent for around 4-5 years now and its been the best tent we've ever had so far. But after all this time camping in the sun and the rain - the tent is starting to leak small amounts of water through the seams along the bottom. What sort of sealing/waterproofing would you recommend for this tent? Also, what is the best procedure you would recommend?
G’day Andre,
That’s great to hear you’ve been getting a lot of use out of your tent! It sounds like your Malamoo could use some seam sealant to plug up those small leaks, once you do that it should be good to go again.
We sell a few products you can do this with, one is called Seam Grip and the other is Storm Sure which are in-store only. But if you give us a call on 1300 914 007 and ask to speak to our customer service team we, Â may be able to sort something out for you.
Hi I would like to know if there is a footprint that can be attached to the bottom of the tent? thanks
I'm looking to go on a long weekend of backpacking/ hiking trip. Would you recommend this tent for that ? Carrying & Weight wise?
We fit two Exped LXW10 Megamats in with no problem. It's a tight fit but we've spent weeks at a time in this tent with no problem.
Would a Oztrail Double Leisure Mat fit comfortably, to accommodate myself and my wife in the Xtra? If not, what mattress would you suggest? I am also considering theMega (see my inquiry 5days ago) but wondering if that might be TOO big and awkward as a touring tent, especially packing up? I'm hoping to fit a 2mtr x 2.5mtr ARB awning to my 2008 Outback which would shelter our table and chairs, and hopefully work-in with our tent choice well? We would welcome your thoughts and advice.
Is it a poly cotton canvas or full synthetic?
Im 6ft 3. and like a little streching room.
Great Victorian Bike Rider living with a possibility of stormy and/or hot/humid weather.
How weather resistant is it? Water proof, insulation etc
I would like to be able to fit a 1.8m x 1.5m queen size self inflating mattress. We plan to travel in the Kimberleys in WA during winter which is theoretically the dry season but it can still be rain particularly on the way up there so I would like to know that rain will be running off not into the tent.
