A pop-up tent for four, the Oztent Malamoo Mega is impressive to look at, and equally as impressive to see being packed away.

An “all-in-one” design enables you to pitch fly and inner together in seconds and then pack it up almost as quickly. The dual skin construction features a waterproof fly over a mesh inner with a set-back interior double door that creates an enclosed front vestibule.

Ventilation is provided by means of two side and one rear window, along with two closeable front vents, and the front door extends as an awning with the included poles. The Malamoo Mega is a roomy shelter for families on the move.

The Oztent Malamoo Mega 4P Pop Up tent was designed by an Australian company, Oztent. In terms of who invented it, we honestly don't know, sorry. The tent itself is currently being manufactured in China.

Are the vestibule poles included?1 answer

Hi there - just wondering if the vestibule poles are included when purchasing the tent? Also - with regards to weight - is the 8kg just the tent itself or the weight of the tent plus pegs (and possibly poles)? If all inclusive weight - how much does the actual tent main part weigh? thanks for your help.

G'day Emily,

I've just checked and yes the 2 telescopic awning poles are included with the Malamoo Mega.

I've taken the pegs and telescopic poles out of the bag and together they weigh 1.9kg (I couldn't take the tent out of the bag even if left packed down) so if you subtract that from the overall weight, the tent should weigh approximately 6kg on it's own.

Which Mega is the newer model?1 answer

Hi can I please confirm which Mega tent is the newer model? The one with the vestibule that opens to the side, or the one with the green awning? I was under the impression the one that roles to the side was, however a recent review indicates that's the new model. Also, the awning model - is the awning the only vestibule door or is there a fly screen that can be shut? Thanks in advance

Hey Mel,

I'm assuming you are referring to the 2014 model when you say a side opening door which is something we no longer stock. The models available on our website are the most recent.

In regards to the awning model, I assume you are relating to the Mega 4P which has a screen door as part of the inner of the tent which is set back from the fly as well as the vestibule door that can be used as an awning.

Which tent is best for touring?1 answer

I will be a sole traveller and like the easy concept & ease of the Malamoo Mega. Just concerned that as a female, it may be too hard to pack up? Also considering the Coleman 4p, however the height of this tent could cause problems fitting the fly in even the slightest of wind conditions on my own. Any thoughts, suggestions appreciated.

The Malamoo 4P is a bit bigger than the other models, so it is going to be a little more awkward to pack it down with one person. Thatâ€™s not to say it canâ€™t be done, it will just take more effort so if you decide to go with this model weâ€™d recommend practicing at home first.Weâ€™ve got a video you can watch hereÂ which shows you how itâ€™s done which may be helpful for you.

As for the Coleman Instant Up 4P â€“ for reference I am 5â€6â€™ and I have trouble fitting the fly over this tent, but the way around that is to put the roof section up first, lay the fly over and then extend the leg poles fully.

As for touring, both models are easy to set up which makes them suited to touring. The Malamoo is very lightweight, and it is a pop up tent so it requires minimal effort to set it up. The Instant Up is heavier than the Malamoo, but it will offer more durability due itâ€™s thicker floor, steel frame, and higher waterhead rating â€“ so itâ€™d be a toss-up between weight and durability depending on what yo would prefer.Â

Not being a gamer myself Bogan I'm not sure what levels of salt you may be referring to, so I can't guarantee the survival of this tent in a high sodium chloride environment. It's well made and we sell the Malamoo Mega with confidence, however, everything has its limits. So while this tent would handle a sprinkling of salt similar to what you may expect early on in a game, a heavy dose akin to what may be thrown around by Guinsoo's Rageblade at a late stage of the game may render this tent broken and the warranty void. G'day Vincent. Oztent don't officially supply a "season rating" on this tent, but we would consider it to be a 3 season tent. It's fully waterproof, but not suitable for snowy conditions. I hope this helps, let me know if there's anything else you need.

Can you fit a couple of fold out stretches side by side in this tent?

You can fit a queen sized airbed measuring 188cm in length and 152cm in width at 24cm high quite comfortably Jayme. Two stretchers at about 80 cm in width will measure 160cm in width and usually about 200 cm in length with around 40/45 cm in height. You would squeeze them in but there wouldn't be much room to move once the slope of the walls is taken into account. I wouldn't recommend anything higher than a standard airbed for these tents, the floor of the tent is probably not conducive to the feet of camp stretchers either. Check out the Coleman Instant Up range for a quick pitch option that will accommodate stretchers.

It's a little bulkier/thicker Jenny, but the diameter of the disc when folded is roughly the same for both the Malamoo Xtra 3 person and the Malamoo Mega. It will take up about the same amount of space in the vehicle.

Pop up tent with Queensize Eurobed1 answer

Hi, I was looking through the pop up tent options and it looks like the Malamoo Mega 4P Pop Up tent would be fine with a Queen Size Euro bed. Just wanted to check if you have any other Pop Up tents that would also fit the Eurobed in it?

The Malamoo Mega will be tight with a high queen sized mattress in it Phil. They have sloping sides and a vestibule at the end which reduces the interior length by 80 - 100 cm. While it will fit, there won't leave a lot of room to move around. Something from the Coleman Instant Up range would be a better choice. These have near vertical sides and are much more accommodating to stretchers and double high mattresses.

fly opening up or to side?1 answer

Hi, looking at various images of this tent, we're seeing some that have the front door opening to the side (& then rolled up to the side) & others that open up to the top to become a front awning. Could you please clarify this as we'd like one that opens to a front fly. Also is there a side window on both sides? (We've used the 2 & 3 man ones for a few years & love them :) ) Thanks

Hi Annette, sorry about the confusion here, Oztent have updated the Malamoo Mega to have a fly door that can be extended as an awning, the old version rolled to the side. We have all current model stock available for purchase. Oztent did not supply new images when this update occurred, so we have modified the image on our website to represent what the current tent will look like.

Does this require a roof rack or will it sit comfortably in a boot of Nissan Pulsar 2013. The reviews said when it is folded it is as big as the Malamoo Xtra. Is it true ?

The Malamoo Mega and Malamoo Xtra have roughly the same packed diameter Santosh, but the Mega is slightly fatter. It has an extra twist when packing away compared to the Xtra which enables it's packed size to remain small(ish). If you have room in your vehicle for a 1 metre diameter disc at around 10-15cm thickness, then you won't need roof racks. If you were using roof racks it would pack best in a basket rather than tied onto bars.

Hi Johnnie, the fly sheet door can be rolled open, and the internal door from vestibule to main tent has a 'double door' with mesh and solid panels. So on a hot night, you can open the windows, roll open the fly door and leave the internal mesh panel closed to create insect free ventilation. This would mean however, that your vestibule is open during the night.

Hi, This is designed to sleep 4 adults so yes your family will fit but this always depends on your choice of sleeping system. Most tents account for small roll mats instead of options that take up more space like airbeds and stretchers. An idea to check space is to lay out your mats and measure around them to see if the tent dimensions suit you. In terms of warranty, Oztent warrants this product for manufacturing and materials for 2 years from purchase date.

Not comfortably. YOu get a queen sized mattress in it - and just enough room to stack a couple of small bags down each side . You could fit - but you wouldnt roll over lol.

Need help to choose best quick tourer tent 1 answer

My wife & I want a good tourer tent, mainly for traveling up NW. We like idea of quick erection set-up & down at end of busy touring days. We like vestibule area and awning in the Malamoo Xtra and Mega for wet days, or would a Speedy or Sahara be better? I am 171cm tall and my small Filipina wife Vangie only 157cm. We have a Coleman Quickbed Double Single High Airbed. Wld that be suitable and fit in these tents, or is Oztrail Leisure Double 4wd Mat better? Also, what lighting would work best?

Hi David, in terms of space, the Malamoo Mega is going to be your best option. The Speedy 4P and Malamoo 3 are going to be really tight for a double mattress. The Speedy Sahara would be better in terms of it being a heavier duty fabric, but won't provide the space you need. You could also consider something from the Coleman Instant Up range. An Oztrail 4WD mat will be more comfortable, but much bulkier which is a trade off that needs to be made. As for lighting, any LED lantern is going to suffice, it really depends on budget. Hi Heather, it's actually about 95cm, but given the nature of the tent and how it folds away this could vary a little which is why we indicated a larger diameter. The diagram is wrong, I'll get that fixed up. It is worth noting too that the Malamoo Mega now comes with an awning like the Malamoo Xtra, we just don't have any current images sorry.

Hi Kath. There are no eyelets on the windows, there are small tabs, but I think they are primarily provide something to grip when operating the zipper. The windows are either zipped closed, or rolled open.
