Water filters1 answer
Is LIFESTRAW ,suitable for sea water? I'm going to Malta. They have reverse osmosis.
Esther - Kellyville Ridge(1 year ago)
Lifestraw won't work for seawater, Esther, you need a desalination process for seawater and there aren't many, if any, affordable portable options for this.

Information 1 answer
I wondering to know if this straw kill amoeba
Marina - Young, NSW (2 years ago)
G'day Marina,
Yes, the LifeStraw Filters are 0.2 microns, any filter smaller than 1 micron will be effective for amoebas. LifeStraw indicates that this product will filter out 99.999% of all protozoa and amoebas.

Decantering1 answer
Instead of sucking direct from a stream, can you somehow put the filtered water into a bottle or bladder?
Tracey - Sydney, NSW (3 years ago)
G'day Tracey,
No, this particular filter is only designed to be used to suck directly from the water source. If you're looking for a filter that can filter into a bottle or bladder, we'd recommend checking out some of the MSR or Platypus filters found HERE.

Expiry date1 answer
Does the filter have any sort of expiry date? Wondering if it has limited lifespan once used??
DEREK - Fadden(4 years ago)
G'day Derek,
The lifespan of the LifeStraw Water Filter is not measured in time but in liters. Each filter will see you right for approximately 4000L. Hope that helps.

New colour available!1 answer
G'day, Will Snowy's be stocking the new green variation of these any time soon? Cheers.
Glenno - NSW(5 years ago)
G'day Glenno,
At this stage, we've not had any mention of the green model here in Australia. It is possible that the Australian supplier will bring these in, but at this stage they're all the light blue model.

1000 litres or 1000 gallons?1 answer
G'day. From the Lifestraw website, "Long-lasting: filters 1,000 gallons (4,000 liters), enough drinking water for an individual for over 5 years." Which is correct, 1000 litres or 1000 gallons? Cheers
Glenno - NSW(5 years ago)
G'day Glenno,
We've just double-checked the packaging for the Lifestraw, and we can confirm that the Lifestraw will filter 1000 Gal, or 4000L. We'll get our specifications updated to reflect this on the site. Thanks for picking up the discrepancy for us.

How do you clean this straw or replace the filter?1 answer
How do you clean this straw or replace the filter? And how often should you do if?
Ash - Melbourne(6 years ago)
G'day Ash,
You shouldn't need to clean the Lifestar Water Filter other than to wipe the end before replacing the cap. The filter needs replacement every 1000L of water so depending on how much you use it you might only need to replace it every few years.
