A quick pitch family tent, the Coleman Instant Up 8P Tent has an internal room divider and space for two queen airbeds, making it perfect for quick and easy family getaway.

Set-up in 2 minutes, the Instant Up 8P has an integrated steel pole structure that stays attached to the tent inner and quickly folds out and locks into place when setting up, then all you need to do is throw the flysheet over the top and peg the tent out.

Windows all round, all with internal privacy screens, a heavy duty floor, internal organiser pockets and a front vestibule and door that can be extended as an awning, the Coleman Instant Up 8P is an affordable touring tent for families on the go.

Packed up tent length1 answer

Hi. Can you confirm the length of the tent when in the carry bag? The product description for this clearance model says 1.4m, but I can see the model which is on sale, but not clearance is only 1.2m long when packed? Can you please confirm length so I can work out which one would fit in my car? Thank you

I've just had a look at our website, and the info provided by the supplier and it seems that the clearance Instant Up 8 and current Instant Up 8 both have the same packed dimensions which are 140L x 28W x 28H cm.

The Gold Series are the 'top shelf' versions of the Instant Up range Adam. The silver series are still great quality, we have sold them successfully for years. The Gold Series offer a nicer feeling PVC coated Poly Oxford Nylon Floor, and better quality fly and inner fabrics along with a few extras such as detachable awning and doormat, but you pay for these extras. I can't speak for the Instant Up Gold 8P, this model is not available to us. None of them are waterproof without a fly, if you want to keep the rain out, keep the flysheet on. This will also increase the stability of the tent, if your tent is damaged in windy conditions and the flysheet and guy ropes have not been used, then warranty will not cover this damage.

So we've heard back from the Coleman rep Adam, and they've told us that the gold edition was produced exclusively for another retailer so unfortunately it's not a product we have access to. It's the same frame as the Instant Up 8, but with different fabric if that's helpful.

Hi. Does it attach to the floor for complete protection from bugs/snake? Is it fully sealed or can water get in if the from part of the tent is used as a kitchen? Thanks so much.

The divider functions mainly as a privacy screen Adam, so it wonâ€™t protect against moisture or creepy crawlies as it's not attached to the floor of the tent.

Performance in wind & rain3 answers

Hi, I've read conflicting reviews on this tent and its performance in wind and rain. Have you had experience with it in strong wind or heavy rain and if not from talking to other purchasers or people you know who have it, what is your opinion of its performance in these conditions?

Hi Andrew, I have the 4P version of this tent and have used it in both wind and rain. Rain is not a problem provided the tent is pitched properly, but they are not designed for strong winds. I used my vehicle as a wind break to survive an outback dust storm, but without that I think the tent would have had some damage. If you want something for strong winds then look at a geodesic dome, these allow for some flex and handle wind much better.

It's difficult to give a straight answer tot hat questions Andrew, there is no reason for example that you couldn't use the tent in strong winds of your campsite is adequately protected. If it is just what we would class as a windy day, then the tent would be fine, however, locations that receive consistent strong winds that make camping unpleasant such as coastal campsites or exposed sites high on hills are not places you want to use this tent regularly. I hope this makes sense.

Hi, is the carry bag semi rigid or at least holds its form so you can easily carry it on a roof rack?

Hi Andrew, apart from a slightly padded base this bag isn't rigid at all. It can still, be tied to roof racks as the tent frame gives it enough rigidity for this. A flat surface is always going to be better though, you could use a wood plank between the tent and your roof racks for support.

Better pegs1 answer

Looking at getting one of these units, but everything I read suggests the supplied pegs are a wee bit ordinary. What would you suggest as suitable "all terrain" replacements, particularly for the main poles. Also: free shipping to 7210?

Hi Gary, firstly shipping is free to your postcode, no problems there. As for the pegs, the ones that come with the tent are OK, but by no means heavy duty. Any tent peg that has more length and thicker shafts is going to do a better job. The Poles Apart Galvanised Steel Tent Pegs are a good option, in the 350 mm length for areas with softer ground.

I own a 4P version of this tent myself Michael, and I am drawing a mental blank as to whether it has power cord access points. I am pretty sure it does as there are internal cord management loops and hooks, it would be silly not to have a cord access point. Just to confirm I'll check it out on Monday once I'm back in the showroom and post my findings back here for you. Alternatively our store is open until 5pm Adelaide time today, if you were to call 1300 914 007 one of our team members will be able to check it out for you.

Hi Michael, the Instant up range do have zippered power access points. It looks like they are all on the lower right hand side with hooks running to the internal peak.

There is only 1 entry/exit for the Instant Up 8 Sarah. The sides and rear all have windows with internal privacy screens.

G'day Mitchell. Firstly, if you've narrowed your search down to these tents, you've obviously done your homework. Fantastic tents, really easy to set-up, strong and come in at such a good price. Just so it's a bit easier to understand I'll refer to the Instant Up 8p tent as #1 and the Instant Cabin Gold tent as #2. #1 frame has the potential to be free-standing (still need to peg it down), and would be slightly quicker to erect. #2 has a few extra hoop poles you need to consider when setting it up. #2 is part of the 'gold series' which has a stronger PVC floor and slightly higher waterhead rating. Also, it's a bit bigger in size (compared to #1). Overall they're both very similar tents, we sell stacks of both models. If it was my decision, I would lean towards #1 - only because it's cheaper in price. I hope this helps!

Hi Michael, these art about 1.4m long, they would fit into a sedan if you poked it through from the boot to the back seat, but I wouldn't say it is an easy fit. That being said, some vehicles have masses of space in the rear, so depending on your vehicle you may be OK.
