A family sized tent with an instant pitch frame and two separate rooms with zippered dividers, the Coleman Instant Cabin Gold 8P boasts a 3 minute set up time; pretty good for an 8 person tent.

The front room of full mesh measures 1.8m plus the main room at 3.2m provides enough space for three queen airbeds. Suberbly ventilated through a floor level vent and windows in the main room and doorway all with privacy screens. compare Coleman Instant Cabin Tent 10 Person 4.2M x 3M with the Gold Cabin 8P1 answer

Hi I found that the Coleman Instant Cabin Tent 10 Person 4.2M x 3M (non gold series) also has a hinged door and has space for 4 queen beds with a room divider. I havent seen this model sold on your site. Can you please advise if it has good weather protection as in the Instant Gold 8P tent. Also does it have awnings like the Instant Gold 8P tent.

Hi Reno, I'm not exactly sure which tent you are referring to, there are some US models that cannot be purchased in Australia and maybe you have seen one of these. We do have two 10 person Coleman Instant Up Tents though. The Instant Up Northstar 10P and the Instant Up Gold 10P. These are from the same "Gold" series in the Coleman range and offer the same quality, and weather protection as the Cabin Gold 8P and offer larger awnings. The Instant Up Gold 10P has a slightly different frame configuration but they all offer quick or instant pitch capabilities, and the choice really comes down to the tent configuration that best suits you.

The Instant Cabin Gold would be a 2-3 season tent Danny, it will keep you dry in heavy rain events and retain a good amount of warmth when it's cold. When set up in full with all guy ropes and pegs points in place it will handle winds well but has limitations in areas of consistently strong winds.

How is the tent on continually setting up and taking down for extended trips day after day... Will the quality of the joints and poles last several years, so is it for the real camper or is this something for the camper who wants to show off?

My theory on the fancy quick pitch frames we are seeing more and more of nowadays Ben, is that they are made well but as with anything in life the more moving parts there are the more opportunity there is for things to wear out or fail. This being said, most of the issues we are presented with are on account of lack of care when the tent is pitched, packed and transported. With proper use, an average camper should get more than a few years of use out of this tent, but if you're concerned then the traditional fibreglass frames have been tried and tested, and are easier to repair if things go wrong.

Would you mind commenting on these two tents particularly with regard to build quality, interior pockets, ventilation esp down low and awning size?

Build quality is very comparable between these tents Amy, both utilise high quality fabrics and heavy duty floors. The main difference is in the frame, with the Instant Cabin Gold 8P having a steel/fibreglass combination instant up frame, and the Bedarra having a fibreglass frame that offers a little more internal space and better performance in bad weather, but lacks the quick pitch feature. The Bedarra has more internal pockets and a more flexible awning with the ability to add side walls, and also offers better ventilation at ground level. The choice really comes down to how much time you want to spend setting up your tent, with the Coleman Instant Cabin Gold being the quicker of the two.

G'day Dale, I do have other Coleman Instant Up tents on display and they all have a zippered access for power cords in the bottom corner near the tent entrance. They also offer small hooks up the ridge line of the ceiling to support a cord for a light. I can only assume this is the same for the Cabin 8P. I will contact Coleman on Monday and try to confirm this 100% for you.

Reduce packed length1 answer

124cm packed length is an issue fitting into my car boot can I reduce this by removing frame poles and packing separately ?

No easily Peter, and the pole length isn't going to reduce once removed anyway. Removing the frame negates the quick pitch feature of this tent, and would likely make set-up time longer than your average dome. I would recommend something similar without a quick pitch frame in order to get a smaller packed size. Have look at the Outdoor Connection Bedarra for example.

Compare Coleman Gold 10P and Coleman Cabin Gold 8P1 answer

Hi, I am wondering what the differences are between the Coleman Instant Up Gold 10 person tent and the Coleman Cabin Gold 8 person tent? My husband and I have just purchased a 4WD and are looking to have a good tent for all year round. At the moment we dont have kids but would like to make sure the tent is ample room for a family.

The Coleman Cabin Gold 8P is not free-standing Stacey, it has four hoops and stays upright once pegged out. It has a large mesh lined vestibule which is enclosed with the fly. The Instant Gold 10P is a free standing frame which is a little easier to put up and has two fully enclosed rooms separated by an internal curtain. Additionally it has a number of external awnings and two large entrances, one to each room. They are both popular tents made with similar materials, but I think the Instant up 10P is a more versatile design. I hope this helps with your decision.

There is no hard fast rule here Jane, the floor is waterproof so you don't need a tarp, but the addition of one will extend the life of your tent floor. As for size, the floor space is 5.1m long and 2.7m wide, so this would be the minimum space to cover, but make sure you consider the space you want to create outside of your tent also. C-Gear have a tarp (product code #38464 on our website) that will cover most of the width and the awning at the end, but these are quite expensive. With two of the more cost effective tarps from the Kookaburra range on our website, you can create ground cover to suit your preferred camp set-up. Standard duty tarps will suffice, but heavier duty tarps stay in place better. I hope this helps, give us a call if you need further advice - 1300 914 007.

There are no windows in this section Arthur, but the end door can be rolled up, and the sides can be extended as awnings. It is all mesh on the inner of this front section, so airflow won't be a problem either.

The divider is a 'T' zipper Sue which does completely separate the two rooms. One zipper runs down the centre, then separate zips on each side close the bottom. This also allows you to pull the divider back 'curtain style' when you don't want them in place.

Hi Toby, yes it's the same tent. Coleman have provided limited information for this product, but the fact that you can pitch the covers over the screen room as awnings on all sides is a pretty unique feature. Four awning poles are included, and you can add extra poles to pitch the awning on all sides, we have these on our website.

G'day Mitchell. Firstly, if you've narrowed your search down to these tents, you've obviously done your homework. Fantastic tents, really easy to set-up, strong and come in at such a good price. Just so it's a bit easier to understand I'll refer to the Instant Up 8p tent as #1 and the Instant Cabin Gold tent as #2. #1 frame has the potential to be free-standing (still need to peg it down), and would be slightly quicker to erect. #2 has a few extra hoop poles you need to consider when setting it up. #2 is part of the 'gold series' which has a stronger PVC floor and slightly higher waterhead rating. Also, it's a bit bigger in size (compared to #1). Overall they're both very similar tents, we sell stacks of both models. If it was my decision, I would lean towards #1 - only because it's cheaper in price. I hope this helps!

Hello we are looking at getting a new tent and this one has caught my eye as the reviews on it are excellent, we are a family of 5 would you say this has enough room, also could a adult stand up straight in all rooms as most tents i have to lean over and this is partly the reason of buying a new one with standing room, do you recommend any others??

Hi Craig, I think you are on the right track with this tent. It has enough room for five and a comfortable amount of standing room. There are only two rooms, some people want two different sleeping areas plus a living area, but to get this space you will have a heavier tent without the quick pitch feature. Check out the Coleman Chalet 9 for a three room tent example. I pitched the Instant Cabin Gold 8P in our store recently, and was impressed with the space and build quality, it's certainly something I would consider for my family of four.

thanks ben for your speedy response, now I know you said its two rooms, is that two rooms under the main tent?? as I see the front mesh room can be a living area or a adult sleeping room, if you pull the awning down at night does it zip up closed so that room will a fully closed room by the shelter??

That's right Craig, the front room is mesh and is enclosed by the flysheet for weather protection as is the main room. The difference being that the main room has mesh windows and vents with breathable nylon walls, making it a warmer room to sleep in.

Hi Troy, in the box this tent measures 124L x 30H x 30W cm. Once it has been unpacked, set-up and re-packed, these dimensions will vary a little depending on how well you fold it, but it's a pretty good indication.

What is the individual room size?1 answer

I have to Oztrail anywhere Queen beds the ones that come up off the ground so I lose a little bit of space as they are 60cm of the ground. So was wondering if they would fit in the end or even the middle rooms? The size of each bed is as follows Dimensions: 198L x 147W x 60H cmkeep in mind as they are 60cm high will lose a little room. Also the size of each individual room would be good also. With thanks

Just deciding between this and the elite weathermaster 8, were just not sure if either or both have the mesh section or porch vestibule fully floored or open like the American weather masters. And would this instant tent as strong as the Elite Weather master 8? With regards to the rain and winds. Your help is much appreciated.

Hi Senora, the screen room on this tent does have a sealed floor to create a fully enclosed space. I am not familiar with the Elite Weather Master 8, but after a little research, it seems to be much the same design only with a 1000D PE floor, and a 2000mm waterhead fly. With this in mind, the Instant Cabin Gold 8 being from the Coleman 'Gold' series, would be more durable and offer more protection in wet weather with a 420D polyester/PVC floor and a 3000mm waterhead fly.

Have a look at the second pic. It shows the front floor zipped up across the bottom, which keeps water out, but when unzipped it all lies flat so you don't trip over at the entrance. The design of the awning means some water can get in at the sides, depending on how you arrange it when it rains, as the water will pool if the awning is left up like in the picture. The side awning and D door are fantastic though!
