A relatively lightweight and affordable hiking tent, the Oztrail Hiker 2 is a great entry-level choice for budding hikers or for backpackers on a budget.
Featuring an ‘A’ frame pole design inspired from the tents of yesteryear, the Hiker 2 is strong, spacious and features fibreglass poles with short pole sections to make it compact in transit. The fly is made from UVTex fabric which is waterproof and also provides protection from UV rays, and has heat taped seams to help prevent leaks. For ventilation, the inner is comprised of No-See-Um mesh and polyester, and the bucket floor has elevated seams to assist with keeping you dry from the ground up.
Getting in and out of the Hiker 2 is simple, as it features an oversized T-shaped door with lower sills to prevent tripping. You can stash your pack and boots out of the weather in the large front and rear vestibules, and the inner has storage pouches to keep smaller items organised. The Oztrail Hiker 2 represents great value for any newbies looking for a compact tent.

Hot weather1 answer
Is this tent suitable for hot weather? e.g. NT
Iris - Melbourne(3 years ago)
G'day Iris,
The Oztrail Hiker 2 Dome Tent is a 2-3 season tent, meaning its ideal use is over Spring/Summer/Autumn. There's also a reasonable amount of ventilation options, so you shouldn't have any trouble with this tent in warmer weather.
Lauren - Snowys(3 years ago)
is it waterproof tent, it doesn't have waterhead rating. 1 answer
will it be cold in 5 celsius environment?
Fiona - Hobart(4 years ago)
G'day Fiona,
Oztrail doesn't specify a waterhead rating on these tents, so it's hard to say for sure how waterproof they are, but we'd suggest proceeding with caution in wet weather. The inner of the tent is largely mesh, so you might be a little cold in 5'C, but it will depend on your entire sleep system.

Is this a free standing tent?1 answer
Could you confirm if this is a free standing tent if the ground is to hard to insert pegs? I understand that if the ground is to hard, the vestibules cant be pegged out, but can the corners of the fly secure to the each of the inner tent ground corners and is there Velcro connections to align the fly to the poles. Thanks

G'day Brett,
Yes the Hiker 2 Dome Tent is a free-standing tent, so as you indicate if the ground is too hard to completely peg it out, the frame will be self supporting.
