Can I fit two of these doubles side by side in an RV5 tent? The tents width is 260 and these are a bit over 130 each. Can I squeeze it in? If not what other mat do you recommend.
G'day Gregg,
The internal floor space in the RV5 is actually closer to 250cm as the frame of the tent takes up abit of space down the inside edges of the floor. You can squeeze 2 x 130cm mats in, but in the areas where the frame is, the mattress pushes in abit. This generally isnt too much of an issue unless you like your mattresses super firm and inflate them to capacity.
Otherwise the Coleman High Peak, Sea to Summit Comfort Plus, or Darche Kozi self inflating mats are a touch narrower.
What is the best way to clean this product?
G'day,
Just with a damp cloth and minimal detergent, but ultimately there's not an easy way to clean self inflating mats.
The best bet is prevention, by using a fitted mat sheet or a standard bedding sheet to protect the mat.
If it for children, a domestic waterproof mattress topper is a great idea.
Hi, the Zempire Monstamat recommends storage flat, which isn't practical for us. Can the HaxaTherm be stored rolled in their stuff sacks?
G'day Rebecca,
The best practice for any stored self-inflating mat is the same - to store unrolled. Non bonded mats absolutely have to be, as they will be damaged otherwise.
Mats like the Zempire and Blackwolf options are fully bonded so there will be no harm to the mat storing them rolled up, but it is recommended if its going to be a long time between trips, to pull them out and inflate them everynow and then.
If you are going camping once a month or so that wouldnt be an issue, but every 6-8 weeks to pull them out would be a good idea.
Zempire choose to state the best practice process on their mats, but other brands may not.
The care for them ultimately is the same.
What does this really cover?
G'day Andrew,
Black Wolf outlines all the ins and outs of their Limited Lifetime Warranty HERE. Hopefully that helps answer your questions.
Hi, can you help me decide between these two please? How do comfort and pack down time/ease compare?
G'day Hannah,
The two mattresses are pretty similar, they are both 10cm thick, and will function in a very similar way. THe R-value on the Zempire mat is slightly higher, although Black Wolf has had their mattress verified using the new ASTM system, so in reality, they could be quite similar. In terms of comfort they are both going to feel pretty similar, with the Black Wolf mattress top being slightly more durable, but with a similar soft-touch feel. In terms of set up and pack down, they're both quite easy and quick. This is a real hair splitter, but the Zempire is a slightly more popular option and is at the top of our Top 10 Best mattresses this year.
wondering if this has an edge on competitor mats for side sleepers by molding to body shape?
G'day Hannah,
Yes, these mattresses are good for side sleepers. There are a few mattresses in the 10cm thick self-inflating mattress category that are fairly similar, but this model is fairly good. We'd recommend also considering the Exped Megamat Duo, Sea to Summit Comfort DLX SI Double, Zempire Monstamat Twin and Coleman High Peak Double Camp Mat. They're also great options, and will all suit side sleepers.
Does the carry sack still double as an inflation pump by clipping to the mattress valve? I notice that the valve on this mat is different to the valve shown on the 2D Mega Deluxe Mat review, so not sure if this one works the same or not. The ability to customise the comfort of the mattress by adding some extra air is a huge plus.
G'day Janet,
We've just double checked this one with Black Wolf as we don't have any stock, and unfortunately, we had our wires crossed, the HexaTherm 3D Queen carry bag doesn't double as an inflation pump. As you indicate, the valve is a little different, and the design means that you shouldn't need to add any extra air.
I recently received my HexaTherm 3D Mattress and you can defiantly use the bag to add extra inflation, maybe it is a recently added feature? The bag has a plug on the bottom you can insert into the mattress valve and sort of "roll" extra air in. Cheers, Tom
Thanks Tom, appreciate your help and the handy reply.
What does the inflator look like?
G'day Charles,
The sack that the mattress comes in is the pump/inflator. It attaches to the valve and can be ballooned up and then the air squeezed out and into the mattress.
Is this a bonded mat like the Zempire.
G'day Nenad,
Yes, the Hexatherm 3D Queen Mattress is bonded.
Which is the better mat between the Zempire and this one.Is this a true 10cm mat.
G'day Nenad,
Both the Blackwolf and the Zempire mats are 10cm in height once fully inflated. Both brands have proved themselves to be top quality. Most features are very similar for the two mats however, the Black Wolf Storage Sack, which also doubles as a Pump Sack, allows you to manually inflate the mattress to the desired comfort level - which personally I find to be very handy! Zempire doesn't offer a pump, but you can blow into the valve to add more air if needed due to the anti microbial treated inner.
It's dimensions are standard double mattress size
G'day Ben,
Great question, we asked Black Wolf the same thing when they released this mat! You're correct, they are double dimensions, which is why we've got a staff tip indicating that.
What's the maximum weight load it was made for?
G'day Lex,
Blackwolf doesn't specify a maximum load rating for the HexaTherm 3D mattresses, however, a double self-inflating mat will generally be capable of taking upwards of approx 250kg.
The HexaTherm 2D mentions it comes with a waterproof storage sack, but this 3D one doesn't mention that in the specifications at all. Can you confirm that the storage bag isn't waterproof?
G'day Lee,
The HexaTherm mattresses are supplied with a water-resistant storage sack. We've just clarified with Black Wolf and they're all water-resistant but not waterproof.
Hi Snowys, is the 3D carry bag waterproof like the 2D was?
G'day Rod,
Yes they come with a water-resistant stuff sack.
Hi there just wondering if anyone has seen these yet, and if there is a comparison between this and the exped Duo.
G'day Sarah,
Sorry for the delayed response, I've just had a bit of a look at the HexaTherm and they do look pretty good and have some similar features to the Exped. At this point in time, the Black Wolf mats don't have R-values, so it's hard to give an exact comparison, but based on appearance and size they look pretty good. We've not had any customer reviews yet, so it's hard to say, but we expect they will sell well.
Can you tell me the difference between the 2D model and 3D model?
G'day Matt,
Thanks for your question. The main difference between these two mats are the sides! The 2D has a tapered side - like the older model had, and the 3D has a square side. They each have slightly different foam but are still both 10cm in height.
G'day Matt,
It's tapered similar to a pillow, where the top and the bottom pieces join in a single seam and therefore is a 2D construction.
The 3D has a vertical sidewall like a standard home mattress so this is called a 3D construction.
Hope that helps.
Hey Guys. I’m looking to buy a new Mat and saw these have just been released. Could you please let me know the difference between this and the Exped Megamat 10
G'day Ben,
We've not yet physically seen the HexTherm Mattresses to do our own comparison, however, based on the information available from Blackwolf they look fairly similar. Both mats have a similar in use and packed size, with the Blackwolf having a slightly heavier duty finish on the material on the top of the mat. We'll be keen to see them in the flesh when they arrive, but we're pretty confident they'll be the same great quality we've seen in previous Black Wolf mats.
