The BlackWolf Grasshopper UL 2 has innovative pole configuration that gives it the stability of a dome tent, great headroom and two convenient entrances with vestibules covering both. This is what sets it apart from other 3-season, 2-person tents.
The now lighter nylon ripstop fly, nylon PU floor and heat-taped seams ensure water repellency in bad weather. There is excellent air flow through ventilation from the mesh inner, plus extra vents in the fly. Pitching is easy, as the poles and pole end webbing and clips are colour coded, and there are cord lock peg points for flexibility when setting up. This tent features a teardrop-shaped door with zips all around on either side, which makes access easy.
Storage wise, the dual side vestibules are invaluable for stashing your boots, pack, and even your wet or muddy gear out of your sleeping space. The reflective strips make the tent easy for you to locate at night, while during the day the ecologically friendly green colour blends in with the environment.
Great for the adventurous couple or solo hiker who likes a little extra room, you can rely on the Grasshopper UL 3 to shelter you on your trip.
Hi there, It looks like the Zempire Megamat twin mattress is 2cm wider than the inner floor of this tent - but I note that the mattress has a tiny lip on its curcumfrence. Do you know if it will fit? https://www.snowys.com.au/megamat-twin-camp-mat
G'day Kelly,
No, the Zempire Monstamat Twin is too large to comfortably fit in the Grasshopper UL2 tent without damaging the floor and sidewall material. We'd recommend two hike-style single mats instead of this car camping style mat.
Tent appears to weigh 2.7kg, not 2.3kg. How is the advertised 2.3kg achieved?
G'day Cameron,
2.3Kg is the specified weight by Black Wolf, but we've also triple check this on our scales and weighed a few of these tents here, out of the box.
They're all on average 2.36Kg, so can confirm this is correct.
Hi. How long are the poles for the 2p grasshopper
G'day Stuart,
I'm just wanting to check whether you're chasing the total length of the poles when assembled, or packed down? When they're packed down they're a touch under 45cm, however, if you're wanting to know the total pole length we'd need to measure that for you. If that's what you're wanting to know please flick through an email and we'll set up a pole and do our best to measure the total length for you.
Hi there, The Marmot Catalyst 2P Tent and the the Black Wolf Grasshopper UL 2 Hiking Tent are both 2-person free-standing tents. -How do they compare with expected durability/longevity? -Does the limited lifetime warranty of the Marmot Catalyst (versus the 3-year warranty of the Grasshopper) mean that expected lifespan of one is longer than the other? -Are there other comparable tents (with regards to type, quality, and price-range) to these two tents? Cheers!
G'day Royce,
The two tents have some pretty similar features with the Catalyst being slightly longer and narrower. The Grashopper is made from a lighter weight Siliconised Nylon Material, while the Catalyst is made from Polyester Taffeta. In terms of longevity, the Polyester tends to be a little more durable long term than siliconised nylon. Around that same price point it would also be worth considering the Zempire Zeus which has a high waterhead rating, if you're likely to encounter lots of wet weather. The Marmot Tungsten is also a really popular option, which has a little more solid fabric on the inner tent and comes with an included footprint to help reduce wear on the floor.
Hi. Would this tent be suitable to do the Overland Track in Tasmania?
G'day Rafael,
Being a 2-3 season tent, I reckon the Black Wolf Grasshopper UL 2 Hiking Tent will be a little cold for you, especially with the potential for snow. Your best bet would be to look for a 3-4 season tent, check out the Marmot Fortress 2P Hiking Tent, or the Vango Nevis 200 2P Hiking Tent
Can i use this as a freestanding tent
G'day Robert,
Yes, the Grasshopper UL2 Hiking Tent is free standing.
What would be the most suitable 2 man hiking tent for these conditions ?
G'day Lauren,
I've done a bit of research around this for you and would guess that you'd be getting temperatures between 8-13 degrees Celsius. Whilst you shouldn't get snow or heavy snow, I am a bit worried that the Black Wolf Grasshopper UL 2 Hiking Tent will be a little cold for you being a 2-3 season tent. I would suggest that you'd need either a 3 season or a 3-4 season tent.
G'day Lauren,
Feel free to give us a buzz on 1300 914 007 and we can have a chat about what will best suit you, that might make it a bit easier to talk about it :)
Are ground sheets available for this tent?
G'day Nicky,
I've just double checked this with Black Wolf and unfortunately, we're not able to get any ground sheets specifically for the Black Wolf Grasshopper UL 2 Hiking Tent, I'm sorry to say!
Do you need to buy a footprint with this tent?
G'day Nicky,
Whilst you probably don't explicitly need a groundsheet for your Black Wolf Grasshopper UL 2 Hiking Tent, I'd definitely recommend it. It'll give you just that extra bit of protection against any twigs or rocks that might damage your floor without you noticing them.
