Roomy, sturdy and fully ventilated – the Grampian Double Swag from Burke & Wills provides reliable shelter when you’re sleeping out in the elements.
This double swag is constructed from a sturdy 540gsm stormguard ripstop canvas, with full-length 120gsm sandfly mesh for plenty of airflow. The sturdy top and end poles are made from anodised hi-tensile 8.5mm aluminium to give this swag structure, and there’s a PVC boot bag to help keep the interior clean. Inside there are 2 storage pockets so you can keep your essentials organised, and a 75mm high-density flat foam mattress for comfort with a removable cover to help keep it clean.
Perfect for the travelling couple, the Grampian Double Swag from Burke & Wills provides premium shelter when camping or touring.
Just spent the night in my brand new Burke and Wills double Grampian Swag. It's all pegged out and the spreader bar is as far out as it can be and there seems to be an awful lot of sag. Should this be the case? It's almost as if there needs to be a third loop.
G'day Rhys,
Yes, it's totally normal for all hoop end swags with a spreader bar, from any brand.
This happens in all sizes of this type of swag, but it is especially obvious in the doubles, as there's alot more unsupported fabric than in single versions.
It's just a quirk of that style, and also happens with Darche, 23Zero, etc.
Reviews have been talking about a fly vent that can’t be closed with canvas. Which end is it that can’t be closed?
G'day Andrew,
There's no head or foot end in this swag, as its designed symmetrically with door flaps on both sides, and depends which orientation you are looking at it.
One end has an open mesh panel to prevent condensation build-up, which the other end has a canvas flap.
You can put your head up whichever end suits you.
Is this swag honestly better than other options like crashpad and the darche dusk till dawn and is it a freestanding swag
G'day Flynn,
The Grampian Double is a great option, they're made from heavy-duty canvas, have a 7.5cm mattress, are free-standing, and come with an excellent warranty. Compared with the Dusk to Dawn 1400 the Grampian has a slight edge, with a thicker mattress, and 540gsm canvas, versus 420gsm canvas. I'm not able to comment on crashpad as it's not a brand we sell. We find that both the Darche and Burke & Wills swags are excellent options.
is the 75mm mattress the same dimensions as the swag internal floor
G'day Troy,
Yes, the 75mm mattress in the Grampian Double is the same size as the internal floor.
I was just wondering if the fly screens at each end have canvas so they can be closed in colder weather?
G'day Rebecca,
Unfortunately we don't currently have any stock to check this for you, however based on reviews from other customers one end on;y has a mesh window, so might be a little chilly in colder weather, however reducing condensation is pretty important in colder weather, so as long as you've got a toasty sleeping bag you should be all set.
I just want to triple check that this swag has a canvas bottom, not PVC? I see you are out of stock, will the new stock also have a canvas bottom? I can't find this swag with a canvas bottom anywhere else!
G'day Alesha,
I've had a chat to Burke and Wills and the stock that Snowys will be receiving is coming directly from their warehouse and will definitely have a canvas bottom.
Can you roll up the canvas sides rather that pegging them out or zipping them closed? Is there a lot of sag in the swag that these styles tend to have?
G'day Tina,
The ends of the swag need to be pegged out to keep the canvas tensioned. The canvas sides can be rolled up if you just want a mesh to protect you from insects in good weather. The spreader bar and heavy-duty canvas on this model helps to reduce sag on the swag.
The Snowy's specs state that it's "19 OZ (550gsm) PVC". Is the floor PVC or Canvas? Also is the floor of the swag one piece or does it have a seem in it?
Hmm, there is mixed information on this one, Rad. I'm just going to get someone to physically check for you. I'll get back to you as soon as I know.
Turns out its canvas, Rad, I need to fix up the details on our website. It's the same 540gsm canvas as used on the upper. Sorry for the confusion. I can't tell if it's one piece, but it does look to be that way. If there are any joins they would be head welded and you won't have any problems.
Canvas floor no seems. Cannot comment on waterproofness straight on wet ground as have not use it in heavy rain. I roll up a small tarp with it to use under it . It is a gorgeously made swag.
does this swag come with the awning poles shown in the picture
Awning poles not included sorry, Troy. I've added a note on our product page to make this clearer.
All the other ones weigh around 11kgs. 17kgs seems quite extreme. I haven’t been able to find the weight on any other site aside from yours, including Burke and Wills site which also doesn’t list weight
G'day Sanso,
I'm not sure which other swags you're comparing this one too, however, Burke and Wills use quality heavy duty canvas which will add a bit of extra weight to the overall swag. I can see we've put the 'Snowys' tick next to the weight which means we have personally weighed the swag at 17.8kgs.
Mostly this is what I’m comparing it with.
G'day Rachelle,
Both great questions and the answers are yes! It has dual side openings, and I've just called Burke and Wills directly to double checked on the eyelets holes, and they have them on both sides. Check out something like the Darche Swag Awning Poles to set it up with a nifty little verandah.
does it have a bag to store it in
G'day Rhys,
No, it doesnt. The Burke & Wills swag series are the good ol fashioned roll up and strap types. There is a PVC double swag bag available directly from Burke & Wills, otherwise the 23Zero 1400 Swag Bag, Oztrail Canvas Swag Bag - Double, or the ASOS Swag Bag - Queen would be worth a look. Hope that helps!
I have one and do not use a bag. this swag is bulletproof. i use 70" saddle straps on all my swags instead of the usual nylon attachments. The belt style with notches and buckle gives you huge leverage when pulling tight.
