Would this be a good insulator for other mats?1 answer
Would this insulate a foam mat from the ground in winter? The foam mat is not self inflating.
Vanessa - Brisbane(4 years ago)
G'day Vanessa,
Yes, the Giga Earth Mat is a good way to improve the insulation value of your current mattress. Most foam mattresses are fairly well insulated already, but if you're looking for more insulation, this could certainly help.

Thinner alternatives1 answer
Were very comfortable on our Oztent Goanna stretchers and want something purely for insulation. This is a cheap option, but the packed dimensions still seem the size of an air mattress, which we want to avoid.
Is there a pure insulation option out there that folds up really small?
Alan - Townsville(7 years ago)
G'day Alan,
I'm afraid that we don't have anything thinner in our range that matches what you've described. There are higher end versions of this mat on the market, but they will all essentially do the same thing and won't pack up that much smaller.
There is always the option of an ultralight self-inflating mat which is designed to pack up very compactly, but I'm not sure if that's what you had in mind to use on top of your Goanna Stretcher.
Sorry, we couldn't be of more help, Alan.

Does this product have an 'r-value'?1 answer
Has this product got an r-value that rates its insulation efficiency?
Darrin - VIC(7 years ago)
G'day Darrin,
Oztrail haven't had the Giga Earth Mat rated for it's R-Value. Sorry.

Double bed size1 answer
Intend to use on top of air matress for extra warmth. Need a double.
Thanks
Margaret - Carlingford(8 years ago)
G'day Margaret,
Unfortunately, the Oztrail Giga Earth Mat only comes in a single width of 65cm. I'm not aware of any closed cell foam mats being made to a double width. If you'd like to use these on a double mattress, my suggestion would be to buy two and place them side by side.

Which side up??1 answer
IANO m t sure which side is up and which down??
Janna - ALdinga Beach(8 years ago)
G'day Janna,
It probably doesn't matter either way, but I would use it the green side of the Giga mat up with the black side facing down.

Is the Giga a NON TEARING closed cell foam sleeping mat as the camper and dulex both tear eaisly? 1 answer
We are needing a few robust hiking sleeping mats for our clients.
Neil - SE QLD(9 years ago)
G'day Neil - I reckon these are more durable than a lot of the other cheap closed-cell foam mats on the market. That said, the nature of the material means that use will invariably flake it apart over time. This is especially true when used on abrasive surfaces. For the comfort of your clients and longevity, I would recommend a self-inflating or inflatable mat. You'll pay more, but I'm sure your clients will thank you for the superior night's sleep. I use a Sea to Summit Ultralight (#46073) for all my lightweight hiking and cycling trips and sware by it. :) Hope that helps. Cheers, Paul

What other sizes does this mat come in?3 answers
Matt - 5606(10 years ago)
Hi Matt, there is only one size in the Oztrail Giga Mat (200 x 65 cm) with 2cm thickness. There are other thinner closed cell foam mats in the Oztrail range, however we currently range the Giga mat due to the extra thickness and comfort offered by the eggshell pattern.
Ben - Snowys(10 years ago)
The details section on this product states external dimension width is 50cm. I've seen this product in person and it's definitely wider than 50cm and more like the 65cm you've quoted in this answer, might be an idea to update the specs listed for those that might not read the Q&A section?
Kaz - Gold Coast(6 years ago)
G'day Kaz,
Getting my hands on one of these to double check was harder than it should have been, but you're spot on, it is 65cm wide. I'll get that changed on the website. Thanks for the heads up!

Been having a look at your Oztent padded camp stretchers. Would this mat be enough for comfort instead of self inflating air bed?1 answer
Matt - Port Lincoln(10 years ago)
Hi Matt, the Oztrail Giga mat is a good lightweight low cost option for adding extra padding and insulation to any camp stretcher. They don't require any maintenance when it comes to punctures, storage and transport either.
