If you’re going to be using a gas appliance when in the great outdoors, then for your peace of mind, pick up a Gas Safety Valve and Gauge from Companion.
This all one device detect leaks prior to ignition, shuts off the gas when there is a major leak and has a contents gauge, so you can easily see how much gas is left. This valve/gauge easily connects to a POL cylinder and is AGA safety certified, so you can trust that it will get the job done.
Whether you’re cooking up a storm on the barbeque, using an outdoor heater, or firing up the stove to cook a meal, attach the Gas Safety Valve and Gauge from Companion.
Will this fit between the gas regulator and the gas bottle on a caravan system.
G'day Michael,
This valve has a male & female POL fitting. If your gas bottles have a POL fitting, in theory, it should work. There have been some recent changes to gas standards which I know effects caravan gas supplies in some way, but we're not the expert there. You best bet would be to get in touch with a caravan retailer or service centre for the most upto date info of caravan gas systems,
All these thread sizes and adaptors are confusing... Just want to use this on a small 2kg cylinder that will be used with a Gasmate classic 2 (or similar) LPG stove Cheers
G'day Jack,
There are two types of fittings on the cylinders, the first is called POL and is usually found on larger 4kg or 9kg cylinders. Most household BBQs will have a hose with a POL fitting. This Safety valve has POL fittings, so is designed for use with POL hoses and bottles. The other type of fitting is 3/8" BSP, you'll find this on 1-4kg bottles, and most 2-3 burner camping stoves. The 2 Burner Classic stove has a 3/8" BSP thread, so this safety valve isn't really suited to use with this stove and bottle combination. It is theoretically possible with an adapter on both sides of the valve, however, you're opening yourself up to lots of possible leak points and issues in a system with that many adapters, so it's not really something we'd recommend.
Hi, Would it work with Companion 2 Burner High Output Stove? Does is work with out ot the box hose and regulator assembly Part No. 2219-01 or I need an adaptor?
G'day Pramod,
The 2 Burner High Output Stove has a 3/8" BSP fitting on the end of the hose, so if you're wanting to use the gas safety valve and a 4kg or 9kg POL style bottle then you'll also need a POL to 3/8" BSP Straight Gas Cylinder Adapter. The Hose and Regulator Assembly (2219-01) is supplied with the stove.
Do they make these with a 3/8” Fitting or Can you use a 3/8” to Pol Adaptor in between.
G'day Simon,
The Gas Safety Valve & Gauge doesn't come in a 3/8" fitting, but you can pop a POL to 3/8 adaptor between the valve and gas bottle with no troubles.
Are these gauges able to be used on 45kg LPG bottles?
G'day Dean,
I've just had a good look at the Gas Safety Valve & Gauge, the maximum working pressure is 2.6MPa which should be the same across both 9kg and 45kg home style bottles, so we can't see it being an issue depending on what your plan for it is.
HI, I am looking at getting the Primus 2 Burner Deluxe Stove and the Gas cylinder adapter POL-3/8" BSP LH Straight to use on my 8.5kg bottle. Will this work with the combination? (I know the stove needs direct gas, not a regulator. as one is built in. but not sure if this valve regulates, or not??) My main reasons for wanting this are the gas level indicator, and also the handy thumb screw (don't want to take a spanner to the gas bottle every time I use the stove)
G'day Steve,
Yes mate, that combination will work fine :) The Companion Safety Valve & Gauge doesn't regulate, so you're good to go! Cheers
Can i use this for my home. I want to check the levels on my home system for hotwater and gas cook top.
G'day Lucas,
We don't profess to be any sort of great experts when it comes to your home gas system but we're thinking that maybe the Companion Gas Safety Valve & Gauge is probably not quite heavy duty enough for a full house system. Your best bet would probably be to get in touch with Elgas or your gas supplier and see what they recommend.
