Is this awning suitable for a Ford Transit Custom 2016 ? Would l need special brackets?
Claire - Croydon, VIC(2 years ago)
G'day Claire,
Potentially, but it depends on your current roof rack system. Check out our video tutorial on how to DIY install this awning, that should give you an idea on how this awning attaches & whether or not it would be suitable for your set up. Unfortunately, we're not qualified to give actually installation advice beyond that standard info, so I'd encourage you to get intouch with a roof rack specialist if there's anything further you need.

Flat roof rack and roof top tent1 answer
I will have rooftop tent installed and do I still be able to fit this to my Ute?
M.J. - Tranmere, SA(2 years ago)
G'day M.J,
You should absolutely be able to, its a common set up for people to have the combo of 4WD awning and Roof Top Tents. We cant give further advise on how it would actually work for your specific set up though, and encourage you to get intouch with the platform rack manufacturer to get info on the best way to go about it, and what may be required.

Foxwing 270 mount to 2x rhino rack bars1 answer
Hi, is it ok to mount the 270 awning to a simple 2 bar roof rack or is a 3rd bar required?
Geoff - Emerald, QLD(3 years ago)
G'day Geoff,
The foxwing only comes with 2 mounting brackets, so 2 bars are adequate for installation. You can find a PDF of the installation manual on the product page if you want to take a further look, just bear in mind the roof racks have to be spaced 80cm or more apart to support the awning.

Foxwing mounting hardware1 answer
I have recently ordered and have received my new foxwing. It doesn’t have any mounting brackets or bolts . Do I have to purchase these separately?
Mark - Turners Beach(3 years ago)
G'day Mark,
It definitely comes with mounting brackets and basic hardware, although depending on the kind of roof rack you have you may have to get additional fixings. Make sure you completely open the box up, as the brackets are usually tucked in one of the supporting cardboard ends. There are only 2 brackets provided. If you definitely didn't get anything please get in touch with our warranty team, through our Help Centre, or with Oztent directly and we'll get that sorted for you ASAP.

VW Crafter1 answer
My Crafter is 2.7m high at the roof racks. Would this awning be suitable for that vehicle height? How long as the poles? Thanks!
Coby - North Wollongong, NSW(3 years ago)
G'day Coby,
2.3m I believe is the maximum height. I personally have a Mercedes Sprinter & unfortunately, there are no awnings that we sell or that I've found which are compatible, except for completely free-standing options. I recently met someone else with a big van like ours, may have even been a Crafter, but they had a proper van roll-out awning (maybe Fiama?) that worked really well. Otherwise, Google might be your go-to for free standing options.

Caravan use1 answer
Can these be mounted to the roof of a caravan? If so, what brackets would be required please?
Tam - Moe, VIC(3 years ago)
G'day Tam,
I have seen it done before, but it has to be fitted by a qualified installer for road safety compliance, as far as we're aware. It's not something we are able to provide advice on, as it's technically not the intended installation purpose for the awning. You'd probably need to head to a caravan repairer/modifier, or possibly even a roof rack specialist for alternative mounting options.

How much does this overhand the rear when installed?1 answer
Hi, just wondering how much the foxwing needs to overhang the rear of the vehicle when mounted? I want to put this on the side of an expedsition truck, just needed to know how much it will overhang passed the rear wall when installed. Cheers
Michael - Richmond(4 years ago)
G'day Michael,
The Foxwing is 255 long in its packed state - so it will depend on how you position, or need to position it on your roof rack as to how far it will then overhang the back of your vehicle. There are no specific measurements on this and it might be a bit of trial and error to get it positioned just right. Check out the video above on 'How to DIY install' for more information.

2x Tagalong Tents?1 answer
Can the tagalong tent attach to any one of the four outside edges? Could you then attach 2 tagalong tents and 2 walls in any configuration to completely enclose the awning?
Ben - Western Australia(4 years ago)
G'day Ben,
The Foxwing Tagalong Tent is what you'll need. They can be attached to any of the sides, as can the walls, so yes you can attach two foxing tagalongs and two walls.

270° Mesh Floor Saver?2 answers
I have seen an Oztent branded mesh floor saver on YouTube that matches the 270° shape of the Foxwing Awning, but I can’t find it on your site or the Oztent site. Is this available?
Ben - Western Australia(4 years ago)
G'day Ben,
Oztent doesn't make a specific mesh floor designed to go under these, so I'm not too sure what it would have been in the video you've seen on youtube. Possible an RV mesh floor save or similar?
Leece - Snowys(4 years ago)
Update Jan 2021 - Good news, Oztent have released a mesh floor saver for the Foxwing Awnings, you can find them here.

Improvised bracket3 answers
Does the improvised bracket come with the awning? Also my roof rack doesn't have channels, will this bracket still work?
Brad - Tumut(4 years ago)
G'day Brad,
I'm not too sure what you mean when you say the 'Improvised Bracket'? Your best bet will be to download the user manual, which you can find on the product page, there are quite specific instructions for installation. You will need channels in your roof racks to slide the bracket into, so it might be worth a chat with a roof rack specialist if your racks don't have a channel.
Leece - Snowys(4 years ago)
The bracket that Ben uses on the YouTube video I was referring to
Brad - Tumut(4 years ago)
G'day Brad,
The brackets Ben uses in the video are not supplied with the awning itself, he purchased them from a local roof rack supplier.
Hi just wondering if I can get the foxwing series 2 for the driver's side?
Chris - Strathpime(4 years ago)
G'day Chris,
At this stage, we don't carry the Foxwing Driver Side Version. I've asked the team to consider stocking these in the future, but at this stage, you might be best getting one direct from Oztent.

What about mounting to arb trade racks?1 answer
Just wondering about how it goes mounting to arb tradie roof rack?
Gordon - Gembrook(5 years ago)
G'day Gordon,
It would be worth having a look at the great DIY Install video that Ben has but together, he's mounted his to a roof platform, but he does explain mounting the awning to roof racks as well. I'm not entirely sure what an ARB tradie roof rack looks like, but as long as you have a channel to slide the bolt/nut into then you should be fine. If not, then you might need to consult your roof rack specialist to mount to awning to your rack.

Can the fox wing attach to a 2.5 oztent compact commercial gazebo1 answer
Also what connections do I need to connect to a Subaru outback
Cath - Ballina(5 years ago)
G'day Cath,
The Oztent Foxwing 270 won't attach to an Oztrail Compact Commercial Gazebo as they are different brands and different types of products. You should be able to connect the awning to most roof racks using the supplied brackets, check out our 'How to DIY Install video' on the product page from more info.

Can an oztent Rv5 be attached to the new foxwing1 answer
Series 11 foxwing
Garry - Windsor(6 years ago)
G'day Garry,
I've just called Oztent and they have confirmed you can connect the RV-5 to the Foxwing 270 Awning Series 2. You will just need to purchase an awning connector to connect them to each other.
