A solid stronghold against foul conditions, the Fortress 2P from Marmot is the tent that provides reliable shelter for two in stormy weather.
This tent has been designed to maximise interior space, which is why the pole clips have been placed to increase the volume, and the poles are pre-bent creating almost vertical walls for a roomier interior. In terms of set up, the Fortress has colour has coded easy pitch clips, poles and fly to make pitching simple. This tent has a full fabric canopy that has a vent at the top for airflow, and two D-doors that are half mesh, so you can ventilate and keep out the weather. The fly provides full coverage, is seam taped, has a 1500mm waterhead rating. It also has additional guy outs for protection against the wind and rain. These will also help to reduce condensation inside while adding extra stability.
When you’re tucked away inside this tent, add your headlamp to the lampshade pocket for ambient lighting inside your shelter, and stash your essentials in the interior pockets for safekeeping. When your trekking adventure takes you into wet and windy territory, you'll sleep soundly in the Fortress 2P from Marmot.
Lampshade pocket to hold a headlamp
Full fabric canopy with a top vent and two half mesh zippered D doors
Zone pre-bend construction for more interior space
Strategic clip placement for larger interior volume
I've got my eye on this tent and I want to use it basically year round, my only concern is that, having a full fabric inner, it will be too hot to use in spring and summer? Additionally, is it light enough for the average hiker to take on a 3 day trip?

G'day Tom,
The Fortress 2P is a 3-4 season tent, so it is best suited to winter conditions, however, the side doors are dual-layered, so you can get some airflow in through the doors. You may still find it a little too warm for the summer months. In terms of weight, it is a little heavier for a 2P hike tent, however, plenty of hikers will carry this for solo adventures if they want some extra space.

Would this be good for the overland track?1 answer
Hi, I will be attempting the overland track in November and was wondering if this would be a good tent for the hike. Thank you.

G'day Eva,
Yes, the Fortress 2P will suit walking the overland track. It is a well designed 2 person hiking tent with great features and plenty of sleeping space.

Would it handle snow?2 answers
Would this be suitable for subalpine NSW conditions where strong winds and a dusting of snow is possible?

G'day JC,
The Marmot Fortress 2P Hiking tent is a 3-4 season tent, so it will definitely be suitable for camping below the snowline in fair weather, however, if you're planning to camp above the snowline and there is a chance of wind and snowfall then you'll need a full 4-season tent that has sturdier poles and fabrics to withstand snow loads. A light dusting should be ok, but if there is heavy snowfall predicated we'd suggest setting an alarm and waking up overnight to clear any fallen snow on the tent.

Hey JC, I used this in the Alpine region in 30 to 40 km/h winds. The tent seemed to hold up and was covered in ice and snow the morning. The pole design isn't ideal for windy conditions. It caved in a few times. However I rectified this. The trick was to use a heavy duty snow stakes and really reef the fly guy lines so its heavily tensioned. The load placed on the stock tent pegs won't hold, I used heavy duty snow ones that are much thicker and longer that did the trick and the tent survived the night without caving in again. Because of the curved design of the poles they have a tendency to slip in strong winds and cave the tent in. If you are after something to withstand strong winds I'd go for a geodesic design.

Ground sheet 1 answer
Is a ground sheet included with the tent?
Nitin - Meadowbank(6 years ago)
G'day Nitin,
I've just double checked and the Fortress 2P Tent doesn't come with a ground sheet.
