Most beach sunshades are aimed at your typical size family. Well, the good folks at Coleman realise that not all families are the same - some are big! So, they created the Coleman Event 14.
Boasting a CPAI-84 fire retardant and UPF50+ canopy, this shade will keep your family protected from the harsh summer sun. Easy to set up with 8 shock-corded poles, it has a whopping 2.3m internal height which’ll accommodate even the tallest of cousins. Plus, it packs down relatively small - so you don’t need a truck to cart it to that Sunday picnic, the beach, or your next cricket match.
A 'sunwall' is included allowing for wind protection and privacy, having the Event 14 a great summer beach shade for the extended family.
Do you have additional sunwall? If not, can you specify the size of the wall to try to find it else where Thanks
G'day Jessica,
Unfortunately we're no longer able to get our hands on the sunwalls as an additional item. Due to the shape of the curve it will be quite difficult to find anything equivalent to fit. At this point in time we don't have spare walls we could physically measure for you to confirm the size sorry.
Is this product seam sealed along the seams?
G'day Mimi,
No, its not unfortunately.
We cover this at about 1:40 in the features video, with a close-up of the seams for more info, if that helps!
Is meshwall available with the Event 14 for separate purchase? How much is a sunwall when purchased separately?
G'day Julie,
Unfortunately the Event 14 Mesh walls are discontinued, and no longer available for purchase. You can find the sunwalls here.
I’d like a gazebo that has the option of fitting a mosquito net. Is this possible with the Coleman 14 deluxe?
G'day Brian,
Unfortunately not, there isn't a specific mosquito net designed for the Event 14 Deluxe.
One segment of a side pole has split
G'day Dave,
Thanks for reaching out, yes we generally have some spare poles available. Please just flick through an email to service@snowys.com.au, Attention: Special Orders, and we can double check our current spare parts stock and verify price and shipping options.
In other questions it says the only difference vs the deluxe model is the heavier weight fly - but that doesn't seem to account for the weight difference of 17kg vs 23kg. The spare fly on its own is listed as 3kg so what else makes the deluxe so much heavier?
G'day Martin,
Good question, this one has us baffled, we're basing the weights on the specifications Coleman has provided in their catalogue. You're right though, the canopy is the only difference between the two, so they shouldn't be quite that different. I'll get one of our product checking experts to weigh both models, and update the weights in the next day or so. Once we've done this the weights will have a little orange tick next to them to confirm we've weighed them ourselves.
Hi, is it possible to join 2 of the Coleman event 14 together? E.g.. rain gutter system? If so what is it. I have 2 Oztrail festival 15 inner half tents and looking for 2 dome shades for them and if possible to join the domes. What would you recommend instead if dont have gutter system. Thanks
G'day Rebecca,
You could put two of the Event 14 shelters next to each other, however they aren't a rain shelter, and therefore there is no rain gutter. The Event 14 is designed as a sunshelter, to provide shade, rather than rain protection. You might want to consider the Zempire Aerobase Shelters, they have a waterproof rating, and you can join two together.
The description says it is white but the picture shows it is grey. The reason I am asking is we are planning on using the wall for projecting videos so the colour is important. Thanks!
G'day Sue,
The colour of the Coleman Event 14
Your tips say, To prevent UV damage that isn't covered under warranty, avoid leaving your shelter set up for extended periods in the sun. What does that mean? is that a Day in the sun? or multiple days? I just bought this tent from you and leaving for camping in a bit and the sheltor will be up for a couple of days. also in the future when I camp I intend to use this for a few days at a time
G'day Muditha,
The Event 14 Sun Shelter is designed as a temporary shelter, so using it while camping for a few days/a week at a time, or shelter for day trips to the beach or parks.
The Staff tip is there to indicate that this isn't designed for use as a permanent shelter - e.g. set up longterm over a pool, driveway, or in your backyard.
Side pole damaged first trip out with no shade on!!
Hi Michelle. If you email some photos to warranties@snowys.com.au, our warranty team will get your message and will be the best people to work something out for you.
Just wondering what the total size the shelter takes up when the guy ropes are pegged? Will this fit on a normal sized campsite? Thanks
G'day S,
From checking out the display model of the Coleman Event 14 in store, the guy ropes when taught add approximately 1.5m on each side to the external dimensions of this shelter (which are 426L x 426W cm).
I would suggest checking the space restrictions with the place you want to stay at, and then you should be able to figure out if this shelter will suit your set up from there.
We're looking for a shelter to provide all-day shade so our small family can spend regular long days at the beach this summer. Will this Event 14 be perfect or will we benefit greatly by paying close to double for the Event Deluxe? Interested in your thoughts. We live on the coast.
G'day
Thanks for the question, both the Event 14 Sun Shelter and the Event 14 Deluxe Sun Shelter are a great option for long days on the beach. They both have a UPF50 rating so will do a good job of keeping you safe from the UV rays. The Deluxe model has a canopy that is 150 denier, double that of the non-deluxe model. This means it should last longer so if you are planning to use it a lot the Deluxe might be the better option.
Hi I am looking at buying this for shelter for camping due to its compact size when packed up and it’s ample space when in use. We never really camp on the beach so not too worried about wind.. for inland / bush type camping (a few days max) will this be ok? Does the deluxe version offer a bit more protection from rain?
G'day Krystle,
The Coleman Event 14 Sun Shelter would be absolutely perfect for your inland camping adventures! As for whether or not the deluxe will provide extra rain protection, the material is twice as thick, so will be longer lasting and slightly more waterproof. Having said that, it would take one heck of a downpour for any water to make its way through the standard model.
Comparing the oztrail deluxe gazebo and the coleman deluxe shelter gazebo, Which one would you recommend for a camping trip to a windy beach? I am after shade and rain protection during the tent camping trip.
G'day Alzina,
If it gets really windy, then the Oztrail Gazebo will be quicker to pack up if you need to. The Coleman Event 14 Sun Shelter is larger and will offer you more shade though.
further to my question below are they the same size or not? 160 or 101? sorry a bit confused as you give different sizes but state they are the same? Also re he sand and poles; the oztrail gazebo has posts that slide up and down and can be ruined by sand; these posts appear to connect therefore sand would be tipped out?? could you please confirm?
Sorry Emma, it looks like we mixed some words up there.
The Event 14 is going to pack up smaller than the Oztrail Gazebo, it will be about 60cm shorter. As for the poles, you are right, the Event 14 poles slot together so sand can be tapped out of the pole. It's still good to brush all the sand off after each use though.
Apologies for the confusion.
I have the oztrail dulux 3x3 gazebo which i love but hubby isn’t a fan of taking it to the beach. Can sand get in these poles like it gets stuck in the oztrail posts?? Also what’s the difference in the packed up sizes? the oztrail gazebo is very big and has to sit on our roof racks, would love to know the comparison of packed size please.
G'day Emma,
The Oztrail Deluxe 3.0 size gazebo packs down to 160L x 30W x 30H cm whereas the Event 14 is 101L x 21W x 25H cm when back in its bag, so it’s not going to be smaller than your current gazebo.
Unfortunately, sand is going to get on your gear when you use it at the beach, so it’s just a matter of shaking or brushing the sand off, rinsing off the poles and drying it before putting it away.
And if so, what is the cost of just the Deluxe canopy please? Our Event 14 canopy just tore in a severe wind storm but the frame is still in perfect condition.
G'day Melissa,
I'm sorry to hear about your canopy. The good news though is that the frame of the standard is the exact same as the Coleman Event 14 Sun Shelter. We'd need to order the canopy in for you though, so give us a call on 1300 914 007 and one of our friendly customer service reps will be able to get that all sorted and work out the price for you.
Just wondering whether this shade comes with a bag for it to be packed into?
G'day Lisa,
Good news! The Coleman Event 14 Sun Shelter Sunwall does come in a carry bag. That should make it nice and easy to take on all your adventures!
Hi, what are the differences between this one and the deluxe? Thank you.
G'day Jacqui,
The 150 denier fabric used to make the Coleman Event 14 Deluxe Sun Shelter is double the strength of the 75 denier used in the regular Coleman Event 14 Sun Shelter.
Just want to know whether there's any pocket and loop for lantern. And is that a skylight in the middle?
G'day Ruby,
I've just checked out the display model, and it looks like there isn't a loop to hang a lantern. The middle of this shelter actually has a mesh panel at the top which looks to be for ventilation.
Am interested in pairing this with the Instant Up Gold 10p - basically the thought is not to use the long-side awning but tack on the Event 14 for more family space. Any thoughts on how they would interact?
G'day Richard,
I've just had a chat with Coleman, and they've said that tacking on the Event 14 to the Instant Up 10 is not something they would recommend - as they're not designed to be used together like that, so it might actually be a bit unsafe Richard.
After a different colour
G'day Becky,
The Event 14 Sunshelter doesn't come in different colours, but it does come in a deluxe version called the Event 14 Deluxe which has a heavier duty canopy. This model is green and white, but it isn't the same as the standard Event 14 if that makes sense.
I want to get a mesh tarp for the ground underneath, what size would you recommend?
G’day Jess,
There isn’t a perfect size for the Event 14, so the best thing to do would be to use two of the 2.44 x 4.88 Ultramesh tarps with the longer side laid down next to each other to completely as the Event 14 shelter as it's 426W x 426L.
Is it good for the beach, or will the sand get into the poles and ruin them?
G'day Jan,
These are very popular down at the beach and are fine to use there in the sand! Of course you should try and keep it clean and dry, so you may want to get it out when you get back home to clean it, and make sure to rinse it if you get any saltwater on it.
G'day Tony,
The best thing to do is to give us a buzz on 1300 914 007 and we can look into availability and pricing for you.
