Pull up a camp chair, and crack one open after a long day of driving under the shelter of your Eclipse 1.4M X 2M Rear Awning from Darche.
This awning provides instant shade at the rear of your vehicle, so it’ll add more versatility to your touring setup. It’s constructed from mould treated proofed polycotton ripstop canvas with a 2000mm water head, and HF seam sealing tape which maximises UV block out and direct sunlight. The Eclipse Rear Awning also features black anodised alloy twist-lock poles, twin channel alloy profiles with end caps for space-saving pole pack away, and flexible stress-reducing pivoting hinges.
When you’re ready to hit the road, it packs up into a 600gsm laminated PVC cover to protect it from the elements and keep it from getting grubby. Designed to perform and last, you can relax comfortably under the shade of the Eclipse 1.4M X 2M Rear Awning from Darche on your touring expeditions.
Will this fit securely/stable; i.e. parallel, to a single rear Rhino vortex aerobar? I don't have a platform.
G'day Peter,
Yes you can fit the rear awning to a parallel rear bar. They are supplied with two L style brackets and some bolts and nuts. You may also need some channel bolts with the Vortex Aerobar.
I can not use the 280 awning it will have more than 600mm overhang on the 2021 gxl prado. The distance of the two heavy duty prorack crossbars is 91.5 cm. max.
G'day Cirilo,
You should be able to use the Rear Awning 1.4m along with the 180 awning, however the mounting plate on the 180 awning is the same as the 270 awning. The mounting plate is 220cm long, and with 60-mm overhang at either end, you'll be about 85mm short based on the crossrack spread distance you've provided.
I have a 100 series Landcruiser with 50mm lift and Rhino Platform Rack and need this to clear the lift up tailgate
G'day David,
The maximum extension on the Darche Eclipse Rear Awning 1.4m is 1900mm.
Hope that helps!
Can you fit this rear awning to a roof bar or it needs a roofrack?
G'day Lida,
You'll need a roof rack across the back of the vehicle to mount the rear awning using the supplied L brackets and nuts.
Does the rear awning have horizontal poles along the side of the awning? Do the Vertical poles pack away into the awning bag? Can the awning bag be permanently attached to the roof racks for touring? Thanks.
Hi Victoria, the installation, set up and use of this rear awning is the same as side awnings, it's just a narrower version. So it does have horizontal and vertical poles that fold away and the whole unit is designed to be permanently mounted on a roofrack to the rear (or side) of a vehicle. The PVC cover is designed to protect it from the weather whilst packed away.
would like to attached to the side for a Front Runner Platform as its 1400mm in length
G'day George,
Theoretically, you could attach the rear awning to the side of your dual cab. Most people will go for a 2m side awning, but if you're wanting something that will cover a little less area then yes, this should work ok with your set up.
Would you mount a 2m awning to a 1400mm platform?
G'day George,
Essentially you want your mounting brackets to attach as close as possible to the ends of your awning, and a 1400mm platform is going to get you 300mm of awning over each end which is pretty standard and more that acceptable.
We've got about 400mm on our vehicle.
The only issue you may run into is whether or not the standard roof rack mounting kit will be compatible with your platform. In the instance where its not, a quick trip to your local roof rack specialist should see you right with alternative fixing options.
If in any doubt get in contact with them for any other fit or instal inquiries specific to your set up.
Cheers!
I would like to attach it to the rear of a Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform to cover the rear tray of my Hilux. What mounting brackets does this awning use?
G'day Shae,
We're not 100% sure here as we don't sell or fit roof racks, the awning is supplied with a mounting kit that contains some L brackets, and various sizes of nuts/bolts. It would be worth double-checking with whoever is going to fit the awning if you'll need any other specific mounts for your roof platform.
Will it fit ford ranger?
G'day Sharon,
The Eclipse Rear Awning 1.4M will suit a ford ranger as long as you have a roof rack toward the back of the canopy and reinforcing within the canopy to take the extra weight.
