This one’s for the astronomers, with tons of room for you and your dog, or a squeezy double, the Darche Dusk To Dawn 1100 Swag features two large entries that roll completely open for an unimpeded view of the night sky.
The Dusk To Dawn is a freestanding swag that caters to all users and provides an ultimately comfortable sleeping space with a 7cm high-density foam mattress. Vents at both ends feature large storm flaps, and zippers inside allow access to the vestibule space above your head.

Hi, how does this swag compare with the Burke and Wills Grampian XL. The waterhead rating is just 800mm for the Darche range which is far less than the oztrail discovery, 23 zero and RS1. does this mean it could be susceptible to water ingress in heavy rainfall?
G'day Rich,
Thanks for getting in touch. We don't currently range the Burke & Wills Grampian XL, but they are a similar design and size to the Dusk to Dawn 1100. Overall the Burke & Wills swags use a premium, higher quality and heavier duty canvas than Darche does. We tend to find that they get excellent reviews, and the company is willing to back their swags with a Lifetime Guarantee. In terms of the waterhead rating - this rating hasn't been applied to canvas products until recently, however we'd be pretty confident a Darche swag will keep water out just as well as Oztrail, 23Zer0, Oztent and Burke & Wills.
I will be using this swag directly on the ground. Will the cold from the ground come through the mattress? Just seeing if I need a warmer sleeping bag
G'day Jack,
The mattresses that come with the Darche swags do not have their own R-Value rating, so we don't have an insulation parameter to work off here.
If you are doing a lot of cold winter camping, or camping where there are early morning frosts / super cold nights, a really common fix is chucking an old-school foam mat underneath the swag mattress. They will still roll up with your swag and are really efficient in giving you abit more insulation from the ground. Something like the Oztrail Giga Earth Mat would be ideal.
I've read LOTS of online reviews (on snowys and other sites) about the end poles breaking and then the poles not being covered by warranty and replacements not available. Have Darche resolved to this issue? Have the poles been upgraded? it appears to be a significant issue that will stop me from buying. thanks
G'day Nick,
As far as we've been told by Darche there isn't an issue with their current swag pole batches. Darche handles their warranties directly, so you'd need to double check with them, but in general poles aren't covered under the warranty period.
NA
G'day Nick,
The mattress is 70mm thick, they were updated last year, and our video was filmed before the updated mattress thickness was in circulation.
hi there, iv read some poor reviews saying that the poles have snapped and not covered under warrenty. are they now under warrenty or have they improved them?
G'day Daniel,
Darche hasn't given any indications that they have any known issues with these swags, or that they've made any changes to the poles. Darche handles all warranty-related claims directly, but they do list that poles aren't covered under the warranty.
What’s better the darche dusk to dawn 1100 or the dirty dee 1100?
G'day Aaron,
It really comes down to personal preference, lots of people do like the Dusk to Dawn as it has the mini side awnings, but the Dirty Dee is also popular as it has a slightly higher overall head height.
Can this swag be rolled and packed away with bedding? I'm specifically thinking of the Darche 1100 Cold Mountain Canvas sleeping bag. Would the swag still fit in its bag?
G'day Robert,
Yes you can pack away the Dusk to Dawn 1100 with a cold mountain sleeping bag, however you probably won't be able to fit a pillow unless you've got a down pillow that can squash down a lot.
Would this fit on the 1000 stretcher comfortably or is there a brand that makes stretchers to fit 1100 swags
G'day Jake,
The Dusk to Dawn 1100 is a little wide for any of the stretchers we've got, but we've had a few people use them on the Darche XL100 and just worked around the few extra centimetres of overhang.
Hi guys, Different set up but I have a1400 darche swag and just sit it on a 1100 darche stretcher with a tent pole underneath the end to support the poles. Over hangs each side 150 mm but works a treat and any rain or dew falls off the side and doesn’t go between the swag and stretcher keeping it dry.
With a mattress topper and blankets fitted would the swag still fit in the supplied carry bag and is the carry bag weather proof?
G'day Jimmy,
You'll struggle to fit the swag back in the bag if you add blankets and a mattress topper, you should be ok with just blankets though. The bag is made from heavy-duty canvas and is water-resistance but not completely waterproof.
comparing this to other products
G'day Karen,
I've just double-checked our display model and the end seams are seam-sealed, but the zipper seams and seam where the body meets the floor isn't seam sealed, once the swag is seasoned any stitching holes will seal up and keep the water out.
How big does it took up once used
G'day Sunni,
Thanks for the question, I'm not 100% sure what your question is, however the Dusk to Dawn 1100 is 110 x 26 x 26cm when they're packed up if that was your question.
I already have a Oztrail easy fold single jumbo, so was wondering if it would fit this?
G'day Wayne,
The Darche Dusk till Dawn 1100 is 1100mm wide, or 110cm. This is considered a King Single measurement and unfortunately there isnt a compatible stretcher to use with this. Your closest option would be the Oztent RS-1 Stretcher, which measures 107cm wide, but you'll have some overlap.
Hope this helps.
Hi Just wondering if you have the option to upgrade to a thicker higher density foam mattress? Thanks Stacy
G'day Stacy,
Absolutely, just head HERE for the Dusk till Dawn Swag skin for adding your own mattress, or check out the package deals listed there with a few different Darche mattress options.
Thanks
G'day Tom,
Yes the Dusk to Dawn Swag 1100 will be fine for Tassie :)
Are the swag end able to be fully closed or opened
G'day Corey,
Both ends of the Darche Dusk To Dawn Swag 1100 have a zipped mesh and a zipped canvas panel. This means they can be fully closed, opened with mesh protection, or fully opened. Hope that helps.
Hi. Does this swag have an internal loop or someway of hanging a light? Thanks
G'day Julie,
You could use the internal canvas loops that are used to roll up the canvas sides to hang a light. This obviously wouldn't work if you had the sides rolled up, but if they're down to keep the weather out then that would work well.
There is a little internal hook down one end of the swag that could be used to hang a light off
Many thanks for your great service last year. Have been remiss in not complimenting you all earlier. Will hope to use my previous purchases as soon as a decision has been made on either a tent or swag. Have tried the two mattresses at home only and they are both super comfortable.
G'day Sue,
Darche doesn't make a specific fly sheet for the Dusk till Dawn swags but something like the Oztrail Hiker Fly should do the job of providing you with some extra protection from the rain.
Say compared to the noseeum mesh used in other tents and swags. Not regarding gaps at zips ETC, just the mesh?
G'day Grant,
The Darche Dusk to Dawn swag range have Superfine Insect Mesh which should be ok for sandflies from a size point of view, but there is always an element of possibility as they're pretty sneaky and apparently chew through some materials. Have a look at our blog link on the product page for some good tips when dealing with them.
Wanting to buy
G'day Griffin,
I think it's always a good idea to give yourself a bit more space if you can so yeah, I'd recommend looking at
Would it be possible to set up the 1100 on the Darche XL 100 stretcher even though the corners would be unsupported, or would it sag down too far?
G'day Nathan,
Unfortunately, it the Darche Dusk to Dawn Swag 1100 would probably sag a little too much when on the Xl 100 Stretcher. It wouldn't be stable enough, especially if any wind picked up.
G'day Ben,
does the darche dusk to dawn swag come with awning poles as shown ,the 1100 model
G'day Peter,
I've just double checked this with Darche, and it looks like the Dusk to Dawn 1100 Swag does not come with awning poles included.
do you have to set it up in side
G'day Riley,
I'm not 100% sure of what you're asking but assuming you're asking if you need to set up your Darche Dusk to Dawn Swag 1100 inside before using it outside. You don't specifically need to set it up inside before you use it, no. But it's definitely worth your while to set it up before you take it away for your first trip, just in case there's something wrong with it that you need to get fixed up.
i am looking to buy this swag and was wondering is you have to set it up to sleep in it
G'day Riley,
You will need to set up the Darche Dusk to Dawn Swag 1100 to sleep in it, yes. Otherwise, you'll probably get pretty wet from the condensation that comes through the canvas during the night if it's touching your body.
I've read a lot of conflicting opinions on whether Darche swags are actually midge/sand-fly proof. I know all swags are vulnerable to some extent, but are Darche better/worse than most?
G'day Sam,
Great question. Darche midge/sand-fly proof mesh is no worse than many other brands of the same price/quality. However, as you've noted, there is an element of vulnerability which is ultimately dependant on situation and environment.
I am a scout and I want a quick and simple swag to set up, does this take long to set up you think?
G'day Joshua,
The Darche Dusk To Dawn Swag 1100 mattress is 5cm thick and takes around 5 minutes to unroll and set up.
Because I am a scout who camps in many different conditions. And I am looking at this swag.
G’day Cameron, if you’re looking for a high quality all-rounder swag that will suit 2-3 season weather then the Darche Dusk To Dawn is a good pick because it's spacious, well ventilated, and has good water protection. Like with any swag, there are always limitations especially in extreme weather so just bear that in mind.
