If you've got a broken fibreglass tent pole, you might as well replace it with something that's not going to let you down again in a hurry.
Many replacement fibreglass poles splinter quickly and can damage your tent, these Duraplus Fibreglass Poles from OZtrail are a little different.
They feature an extra wrap over the fibreglass shaft that increases strength and flexibility, so your tent stays upright for longer, available in a range of sizes, there will be a kit in this range that will have your tent ship shape again in no time.
Hi. Is this compatible with an Oztrail Sturt Expedition double swag? Looking to replace the fibreglass rear pole
G'day Sam,
Being a pole kit, you just cut or use the segments as required for your repair.
As long as you're choosing the same or similar diameter, you should be fine!
Hi there! I've looked through the item description, which says total length is 240cm. Given there's 4 sections, that would make each section 60cm. However, in the answers to some other questions, 65cm and even 70cm are said to be the section lengths. I'm needing to make 140cm poles, so would really like to know an accurate measure. If the sections are 70cm, then one set will work perfectly. Thank you!
G'day Branna,
I have just measured multiple poles of different diameters to gain an accurate measurement and they are all the same length.
The space inside the steel pole tip (the indent in the steel tip to the end) is around 3cm, give or take a cm.
The length of 1 pole including the steel tip is between 68.5 - 69cm. The length of just the pole to the indent in the steel tip is 65cm.
The length of 2 poles joined together including the steel tip is 134cm. The length of 2 poles to the indent in the steel tip is 131cm.
The total length of all the poles joined together is 264cm and to the indent it is 262cm taking into account the pole tip space.
I hope this clarifies things!
I would like to thread 2 or 3 shock cords through a single pole if possible. Is the diameter of the inner hole the same for all pole diameters or does it vary proportionally?
G'day Fred,
I have just gone and measured these and the diameter of the inner pole holes is 4-5mm for the 6.9mm - 9.5mm sizes and 6-7mm for the 11mm and 12.5mm sizes.
You may be able to get 2 shock cords through if they are thin enough but may be pushing it, the larger sizes could fit 2 or 3 if they were thin.
Can these be shortened? Looking for a lightweight option to use on a tarp tent, rather than bringing hiking poles
G'day Josh,
Yes they can, you can cut them to length with a fiberglass hacksaw blade.
I need to make up poles 3m long. Can this be done? Can I get extra sets and sleeve a section in to make up the three metres? Strength is not a real issue here. Thanks, John.
G'day John,
Yes, you can use these kits to make whatever pole length you'd like, and you can purchase as many kits as you need to get the job done.
Each segment is 65cm long, so just work out the total length you need and divide it by the segment length.
That will tell you how many segments you need, and therefore how many kits to get.
I need to replace one section on an Outdoor Connection Escape 6 plus - 11mm x 70mm.
G'day Gerry,
The poles come in lengths of approximately 68.5cm - 69cm in a four-pack which makes a total length of 264cm when they are joined.
The pole on my tent seem to break in the middle, near the top of the tent. Can I replace these with thicker ones to withstand more tension? E.g. replace current 9.5mm with 11mm section? Thanks
G'day Gary,
You probably can but it will depend on the attachments on your tent as to whether it will take the larger poles. You'll also need to change over all the poles as the ferrule - the metal bit between the poles, will need to match up between each pole.
do they have the same flex, or does it put more strain on the different poles
G'day Cathie,
The Duraplus poles are a fibreglass shaft with a plastic wrap over the top to prevent them from splintering so I can't see it being a problem mixing them with standard fibreglass poles. The flex might be slightly different than your current poles but it's hard for me to say for certain whether this will cause any issues or not. We haven't had any negative feedback that I know of so I think you'll be fine.
Hey Cathie/Tim, I’ve used this as a replacement for Coleman poles. Flex is definitely stiffer and needs to be considered if your pole needs to flex - I strongly believe it ended other poles in a domed section of my tent due to shifting the stress to other poles, which exceeded their limits (to be fair, it was a pretty windy week)
Hi there, the kit comes with two pole tips, however each pole ends with a joiner. When I assemble all four poles together, I can only make one end into a pole tip, and the other end is a joiner. How can I make both ends into pole tips please?
G'day Claire,
In order to make use of both pole tips with the poles provided in the kit, you'd need to trim one of the poles with a hacksaw. Make sure you use a new blade so the cut is nice and smooth. I also use a piece of electrical tape wrapped around the pole as a cutting guide and it also helps stop the pole from splitting at all as you cut.
Hi, could you please advise which pole set I should purchase to replace poles in the oztrail elite villa tent? Thanks
Hi Kat,
Sorry for the delay in response here. The Elite Villa has undergone a few changes over the years, but based on a little research in various user manuals (you can find them online), it looks like they all use 11mm poles. You'd have to buy a generic 11mm pole kit such as these Duraplus kits and either replace the broken sections or make up a new pole from scratch, they are not available as a complete part.
Once again, sorry for the delay in our response.
can these poles be used to replace poles in an oz trail single toilet tent /thanks
G’day Rod,
Oztrail currently has three Single Shower tents available which you can have a look at here. The Oztrail Pop Up Ensuite, and the XL Privacy Suite have a steel sprung frame so you can't use the Duraplus pole kit with either tent.
The Oztrail Ensuite Dome features steel poles, so again this kit won’t be compatible with that toilet tent, unfortunately.
Hi there. I'm looking for poles that have elastic type rope that run through the poles. Are these the ones and you just have to make them? Do you buy a few kits to make longer poles? Thanks for you help
G'day Ruth. Thanks for the question.
This particular pack includes 4 poles that when assembled stretch out to a maximum of 2.4 metres, with each section 65cm long. Inside the bag is Shock Cord which is threaded up through the poles to keep them tidy and together for when you pack them away. If you want to go longer again you can simply purchase a second kit and keep adding on to the length until you reach your desired length.
The poles are available in 6 sizes depending on your tent requirements, ranging from 6.9mm up to a whopping 12.5mm.
Cheers!
Thanks Nick. I wasn't sure if you could join them together, because I need about a 5 metre long pole. I will order some soon ðŸ‘ðŸ¼
I have a dome swag and the alloy poles have broken and I want to replace them with these if they will work they need to bend though to work on the dome swag will they bend
